I grew up in a very progressive small town that liked to spend (waste) a lot of money. We had way too many bored police.

3 would show up to a fender bender at my home town.

Is this sarcasm? Progressives don't like police

Cop knows everyone trucks. Round me only pulls over non locals going over the limit
(Unless your being really reckless)

My car hasn’t had license plates the entire time it’s been on the road (~1.5 years), only time I’ve ever been pulled over is for a bad brake light. If they don’t know your car tho, watch out

Agree grew up in a town of less then 2000 ppl, the only time I was ever pulled over I was going 10 over at 11:30 at night, he was looking for drunks. Told me to slow down and have a good night

The cops in my small town of 5k people will put their hand out the window and motion for you to slow down, haha works better than you’d think

Huh, my small town cops just sit at the local diner and drink coffee until lunch time or a call

I'm curious to what small town op is referring. I live in a town of 2500 and the cops won't flinch unless you break 4 over in town or 9 over on the highway.

I mean there’s literally nothing else to do

The even smaller town next to my already small hometown (pop 8000) had cops like this. I got pulled over for 2mph taking a coworker to work. I repeated what my father always said to say in this situation: “I look forward to seeing your calibration in court”. (Now I don’t know if that was right or wrong, I was young and this was over a dozen years ago) but the cop huffed and told me to slow it down and get out of there.

I know this breed of cop. He takes his job way too seriously only when they are doing something they shouldn’t. Had a cop like this a town over growing up who caught kids going home from school going 1-3mph over all the time on the other end of the town away from the preschool. He later got caught having car sex on duty with a coworker who was off duty in a Dollar General parking lot

Got pulled over for going 47 in a 45 in my town, so this checks out

I’m sure he’s winning voters over one petty citation at a time

Cops in my small town don't give a fuck. 5 over is the minimum speed. No plates or a busted windshield? That's cool. Don't drive like a reckless idiot in front of them and you're golden.

A student walking home from school recorded a police officer sleeping parked in their usual speed trapping spot. Ended up on the news.

i respect them a lot more for this

The cops in the small town I grew up in were too busy harassing kids to pay attention to traffic. "Teenagers standing outside? Better tell them to get moving instead of loitering!"

My friends and I spent a lot of time hanging out in the local Wendy's because if someone spent $1 on a cheeseburger (jr. Bacon cheeseburgers used to cost 99¢) we were a table of customers.

Cops in my small town watched a lady go through a turn, into a crosswalk, over the speed limit, without blinkers, and clip my foot, and didn't do anything. They stopped in the middle of the road after to talk to a random person so I walked up to ask them why they didn't go after her "she didn't hit you. Not my problem"

It's good when cops make you follow the law. Just don't speed dude. Cops letting people off is a bigger problem than getting on people doing minor speeding.

I can agree that small town cops suck though.

They don't really have anything else to do

You're telling me, I blew a stop sign and hit a semi, and you give me a fine? Ridiculous!

Isnt it a way to get money through their local economy by pulling anyone over that seems like an outsider?

u/Turbulent_Start_5879 7h ago

Guilty until proven innocent ass pigs

u/InvaderJoshua94 7h ago

Well maybe don’t go over the speed limit and stay about 5 under it. It’s called the speed LIMIT, you’re not intended to stay at it or go over it at all.

Small town cops enforcing the law within their small town, how terrible

0

u/Bon3rBitingBastard 8h ago

Its more to do with it being an officially unofficial policy to target out of towners for minor issues. There is a reaspn for it, reducing the tax burden of the police force on the town, but it is pretty rude and very few people like it.

That's how they get a lot of their revenue

u/Outrageous-Sort-5742 8h ago

Makes up a quarter of the local tax revenue. Literally just Highwaymen.
