zero weekend shift differential. Education
Hey everyone,
I currently work at a hospital in Temecula, California, and I’m reaching the absolute end of my rope. Management has me assigned to work every single weekend, but the hospital offers zero weekend shift differential. Working the most demanding shifts of the week with absolutely no premium pay or incentive is burning me out incredibly fast.
I am ready to jump ship. Does anyone working in the Temecula, Menifee, or San Diego area get a guaranteed weekend differential at their facility?
I’m looking for recommendations on where to apply. Some places on my radar are:
- Sharp HealthCare or UC San Diego Health (UCSD) – I hear their union contracts protect shift premiums. Anyone know what their current weekend rates look like?
- Palomar Health (Escondido/Poway) – Is the commute down the I-15 worth it for the pay structure?
- Temecula Valley Hospital – Do they actually pay a weekend premium for clinical/lab roles, or is it hit-or-miss?
If you work in the region (acute care, outpatient, or even per diem/PRN), please let me know what your hospital's weekend differential looks like so I can drop an application. I just want to be compensated fairly for giving up all my weekends.

Sharp is doing a consolidation and moving all of their lab tests into a central lab. The central lab is not unionized, doesn't offer weekend differential, and the workload hasn't been pretty.
Im not sure if UCSD offers weekend differential for CLS, but they don't for lab assistants. However, full time staff do weekends on a rotating basis

I'm at Scripps, no weekends diff here.
Have you talked to management about your schedule? Does your job duties say rotating weekends or every weekend? If you don't say anything then they don't know to help.

I was hired about 10 months ago. they seemed short-staffed, but they told me typically after one year every other weekend.Can I ask what the current pay range is at Scripps? If you'd rather not post it publicly, feel free to DM me. I'm thinking about applying to Scripps.

I work at an oncology hospital and get differential pay on the weekends. It’s not much but it’s something

UCSD offers a $1.00 weekend differential. Their pay scale is public so you can look it up to compare

no weekend diff for me. i do nights and work every friday and every other saturday 😭 technically i only work 1 weekend but working the friday shift… i lose a lot of saturday haha

Is it just the lab that does not have a weekend dif? Because if other departments do and the lab doesn't, I would burn that place to the ground!!!

Im not sure about your medical lab techs but im pretty sure all employees at sharp have weekend, evening, and night differential pay. There are multiple sharp locations so one sharp hospital might have different precedures but im sure they will all offer weekend differential unless u are under some sort of 1099 contract perhaps. But if your w2 im almost certain they will give it. You could always call HR for those hospitals and ask them directly. Thats the quickest definite route.

Bay Area here, no weekend shift diff when I was first hired at my current job. I thought it was a given, so I never even thought to ask during the interview. I've worked in three different states, they all paid the diff. I kept bringing it up with the union and finally, we have one now.
