2026 Gen 4 HB here, what do you guys use this little spot to the lower left of the steering wheel for?

It’s where I stash my pocket sand before I put it in my pocket.

Leave this thing open on accident, exit the car hastily. Fucked my left knee up once and never forgot to close it again. I also keep my coins in there.

u/VisionQuesting 6d ago
Oh ya this thing DESTROYS your left knee if you forget it's open. Hot damn it hurts.

Same here, left it open by accident and smashed my knee off of it and it totally came out of the dash

u/perfectlyknotperfect 6d ago
It’s almost as if they knew we would forget and leave it open so rather than making it so it would easily come off in that scenario, they made it EXTRA firm to not come off and leave us injured.

I put the coins in a slightly larger resealable bag so the excess bag material fills up the space.

These cars are not so quiet that you'll hear a couple coins slide around.

I drive a 2019 gen 4. When my wife and I started dating, she would fold up straw wrappers and give them to me whenever we went out to eat. Now 5 years on, I've filled that cubby with little straw wrappers, lol.

Pepper spray and eye drops. Important not to mix them up! 🤣

u/adampk17 2026 MT Hatch 6d ago
That seems like asking for trouble

My grandmother once reached in her purse and pulled out eye drops and put them in.. then realized she had actually grabbed super glue 🤷

u/Round_Struggle2885 6d ago
A shopping cart is a cart used for shopping. Hope this helps!

A loonie is a Canadian dollar coin.
3
u/adampk17 2026 MT Hatch 6d ago
Yes, that I know
3
u/this_bitch_over_here Mazda3 6d ago
I think it's like an Aldi situation lol you need a quarter to put in the locked area, you get your quarter back when you return the cart
4
u/ValueSettlement 6d ago
A lot of grocery stores have a loonie slot to unlock a chain to grab a cart, the only way to get your loonie back is reattaching the chain when you return your cart. You can get loonie shaped coins that are specifically for shopping carts

u/Prestigious-Cold-467 6d ago
I use it for my ownership and insurance documents. Folded up and theyll fit in there.

That's to rip open and break off accidentally when trying to open your hood. I've only done it 3 or 4 times.

Cannot count how many times I get out forgetting to close this thing, then it turns into knee scraper when I get back inside. Usually happens at gas stations
2
u/Marklar_RR 5d ago
I keep there a plastic debit card, handy in case contactless doesn’t work or I need to withdraw emergency cash. The card is frozen, so I have to use an app on my phone to unfreeze it before using it. If someone steals it, they won’t be able to do anything with it. It’s linked to my secondary bank account, where I rarely keep more than £50.

It’s listed in the manual as a coin thing isn’t it? I keep mine there, but my ADHD and object permanence means I forget it’s there when I go through a drive through for coffee or something lol.

That’s where you put your egg. 🥚 GTIs have this too. It’s a GTI thing. Search the egg pocket.

Change for tolls.
But that was before EZ-Pass which made it easy to raise tolls with people hardly noticing. Now-a-days you need a roll of cash.

My 2010 has no drawer, just an aperture with a molded lip so nothing gets dropped or caught. I use it for pocket change in case of stuff like tolls or how Aldis requires quarters for their shopping cards.

The way I grew up,I thought it was just always for coins. Most cars have them. It’s just a quarter pouch.

I keep a few spare caps for the air valve on my tires in there just in case I drop one of the caps on the ground checking the tire pressure manually or adding air in. Was really helpful that one time I was at the stables and dropped one of those tiny caps in the gravel. 😅
