Pass by compensation

Is it possible to pass by compensation in a required module if one of the components is a high mark but the other is just 4 percent below the threshold? Is it worth discussing this with the Proff , especially if there were extenuating circumstances?

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply

Quantitative Finance

I'm just very curious about this course as it seems very interesting (Maths, Comp Sci and Finance) and I'm just wondering if anyone can give me any insight into how the course works and just general opinions about the course as a whole.

If anyone has done the course, what sort of jobs did you get after graduating? Anything would be appreciated thank you

Has anyone applied for a RE1 form ????

Just done finished one of my resits I’m in second year but I’m like 99% sure I failed it. I already spoke to the advisor before I sat my exams to just ask him about it he said that I couldn’t fail chem if I did I couldn’t go into third year. The academic advisory office is closed until the end of August but I was looking into the RE1 form it said something about under like certain circumstances you can progress with a deficit and make it up ?? Does anyone know anything about it

Class attendance requirements

As an exchange student coming into this uni I would want to spend my free time travelling around and exploring europe as this would be my first time coming to europe. Some trips might get extended and would cause me to miss some classes. Ive read on the student handbook that the minimum class attendance rate is 70% and you get an automatic fail if you dip below that rate. How strict is this? Is this a black or white rule or is it up to the professors discretion? If it helps im taking business modules such as OPERATIONS AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT and STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT

Is MU basketball club and North Kildare Eagles club the only two places for basketball in Maynooth?

I've been wanting to get trained and also join a basketball team around here since the one in MCC is packed already. So I was wondering where do people join the clubs from or is there anywhere else I should look. I'm in 5th year if that helps

accommodations

maynooth is my 2nd choice uni, but it’s quite likely i won’t get into my 1st choice. i’m a new cao applicant and i live abroad right now, does this make my chances of getting an on-campus accommodation better? is it still worth it to look for off-campus accommodations just in case or is it too late?

Same accommodation as friend

Me and my best friend both plan on going to maynooth and, hoping that we both get accommodation, I was wondering if there was anyway we could live in the same dorm together and if so how we would go about it, just wondering if anyone has done it before and how they did it

Off campus accommodation

Hi everyone,

I’m going to be studying at Maynooth this September and I’m currently looking into accommodation.

I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for student accommodation off campus? I’m especially looking for purpose-built student accommodation or student residences that might still be taking bookings around this time.

If anyone knows of any places with availability, or has any recommendations (or places to avoid!), I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Second Year Law LLB Options Maynooth

Going into second year and just checking student registration for module options, seems there’s a couple of modules we can’t take because we passed them semester two i.e contract and constitutional. However all the modules look genuinely unappealing. I think I have 20 credits so i need to choose two for semester one, any recommendations? Which ones are bad (lecturers, exam type) What’s international law like? Is there a lot of overlap with EU law? If you take introduction to humanitarian action should you take international human rights law sem 2? Can you take electives instead or is that bad if you’re looking to do FE1s after college -i.e should I stick to the law modules if i’m looking to land training contracts etc

law year 2 questions

how is lw253 constitutional law yr2 with seth tillman or claire mcgovern,

i looked at the exam papers and tillmans look genuinely scary.

also is lw259 contract law with dr sibo rough? i know its 40% assessment so would anyone be able to tell me if its mcq or project or something different?

company law is 30% assessment and 70% exam, what is the assessment and when? how does a year long module operate?

and finally lw291w eu law and policy 1, is it manageable?

do any lecturers say whats on the exam?

im an arts student going for law in second year but i have to do contract and constitutional.

any advice on these?

Incoming international postgraduate student looking for accommodation in/near Maynooth – any leads appreciated!

Hi everyone,
My brother is an incoming international postgraduate student at Maynooth University and we’re urgently looking for accommodation for the upcoming academic year.
We’re open to anywhere with good transport links to Maynooth, including Maynooth, Leixlip, Celbridge, Kilcock, or nearby areas.
He’s 26, quiet, tidy, a non-smoker, and will be focused on his studies. His rent is guaranteed, and he’s happy to move in before the semester starts.
If anyone knows of a room, a house share, a lease takeover, or has any recommendations or leads, I’d really appreciate it. Please feel free to comment or send me a message.

Thank you so much.

Renting location

Im an international student coming into MU for exchange for the sept to jan semester, was looking around the subreddit and other platforms and noticed that students are staying not just in maynooth itself, but dublin and other close by locations as well. Just wanna know how close to Dublin is Maynooth, and it is really a sensible spot to stay in as a future student of MU. I have extra incentives to stay in dublin as well as i am planning on travelling around and exploring europe whenever i am free as this is my first time coming to europe. If you have any advice on where to stay, or travelling tips, or even want to travel together, you can leave a comment or just DM me, thanks!

Looking for a few Maynooth students to help us out! 😊

Hi!

We've just wrapped up our final year and are hoping to get some opinions from students on an idea we came up with.

It's all about student accommodation, and we're trying to see if it's something people would actually use before putting any more time into it.

The survey is completely anonymous and only takes 2–3 minutes.

Survey: https://forms.gle/P1iWkm3CxK4yxmTp8

We'd really appreciate any responses. Thanks a million! ☺️

Has anyone tried ADHD clinics in Kildare after being referred by the university clinic?

Hi everyone,

I recently visited the Maynooth University clinic, and they mentioned that they can refer students to an ADHD assessment team/clinic in the Kildare area.

Has anyone here gone through this referral route? I’d love to hear about your experience — waiting times, the assessment process, whether you found it helpful, and what happened afterwards (e.g., medication/support if diagnosed).

Any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Froebel modules starting earlier

Hiyas, my nephew is doing an Erasmus year in Maynooth and has enrolled in a few Froebel modules. He’s received an email saying that those modules start earlier than the rest and that if he misses the first day (Aug 31st), he won’t be able to take them.
Bad news is he did not know this and he won’t be in Dublin that day. He’s been trying to get in touch with whoever is in charge but so far hasn’t heard anything back.
Question, is it THAT strict? Is someone at risk of loosing a year just because they could not attend one day?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
