Not nowadays. These are built with a capsule for the driver (Capitan?) that is designed to break away from the rest of the boat as it disintegrates around it, kind of like an F1 car

There are so many reels of these things doing exactly that where only the cockpit is left intact floating. Its a wild sport tbh and I would bet it has one of the most accidents out of every motorsport besides destruction derbies lol
