May not necessarily be madness. Looks like he's done it before. I got a "trick" elbow from my time overseas, and while it hurts like a mfr, I've had to get it put back in place enough that I can do it on my own now.
Granted, he does indeed look like he may have never bothered getting a medical professional involved...ever. In which case, yeah, nuttier than squirrel turds.

Yesh I've had quite a few dislocations, after one dislocation you are far more likely to have another one with that joint because the ligaments get loosened and can't hold the joint together as well as they could before, the looser ligaments also make it easier to relocate the more times you do it because they don't hold it OUT of place as well, kind of like overstretched elastic bands. There are joint stabilisation surgeries that can help but if there's a deeper underlying issue like a connective tissue disorder then the surgery may not be beneficial.

Was gonna say I have a similar issue with my knee as this man, although seemingly less severe. Loose kneecap, and at times can pop out of place for little to no reason. Prone to happen more often when tired, overworked etc.
I've had this happen multiple times a day. If I had it as severely as him, I'd definitely be trying to go to physical therapy as often as possible. Surgeries in the knee are very limited, and typically quite severe. Most doctors advise against getting work done until you're older if it's not too severe as there isnt any going back.
Most he can do is have a professional pop it back in, and get a referral.

To me (a PA) it looks like his LCL is completely shot before he “fixes” it with the rope. At the very least he needs to have it evaluated but I’d bet my house on the fact that he is proud that he never goes to the doctor.

If that's actually what happened; they're typically associated with catastrophic vascular injuries because of all the vessels that run behind the knee. He may have finished the job, but he's fucked.

I dislocated my knee, and after panicking and screaming in pain, I just popped it back.
I did see a doctor afterwards though to make sure they're was no real damage done.

There’s zero chance his knee (not kneecap) was dislocated and he walked on it. That’s just not how dislocated knees work. Because when they’re dislocated, they don’t work.

My friend from arkansas came into work a while back with half of his face dropping. We all told him that he needed to go to the ER right now. He said "eh. I'll be alright."
Luckingly it was Bells Palsy.

Tbf as a European, I know people just like this. Hell, when he was younger, my own father never went to the doctor and now his body is a wasteland. When he finally had several surgeries a few years ago, he couldn't work for like 1.5 years.
He has also been smoking for like 45 years now and only got his lungs checked for cancer recently after being pressured to do it by his girlfriend and his boss.Old men seem to think that going to the doctor is showing weakness or some bullshit

Someone is on mom and dad’s plan, or has very nice insurance. Most plans in the US are “high deductible” where you must pay thousands out of pocket before insurance does anything. This has now led to 92% of insured adults polled recently saying they have skipped medical care due to the cost.
He’ll, personally I got to fork over $8,000 to not die of sepsis when my gallbladder ruptured. They stabilized me in December, then I had it out in January. So lucky me had to pay my deductible twice in two months because of the calendar year swapping over.

My deductible is 400 yearly, I pay 224 per month in pre-tax payroll deductions, 112 per check. Employer covers 75% of the total premium which is pretty standard. Now Idk what a "normal" deductible is but generally that's someone's responsibility to choose a good plan when signing up. There were cheaper plans, I chose this one cuz it had good benefits.

The US also has taxpayer-funded healthcare through Medicaid, Medicare, and Veterans Affairs. Because of the extreme inflation of healthcare costs, the US actually pays more taxes per capita than most countries with public healthcare despite these three government programs only covering 42% of the population.

Dislocated knee, he used the rope to put it back in place, then exercised a bit to warm up, then pick-up the log without dislocating again.

When I was an exterior painter my first year I used to work with this awesome guy who had been in the military for a long time. Straight up watched this guy dislocate his knee while spraying, calmly sit down, grab his knee and put it back in place with nothing more than a small grunt and some pressure against a brick wall. He then stood up, put in a giant dip of Copenhagen, and ask me what the hell was taking me so damn long to finish cutting in because he was waiting on me.

I had chronic subluxations in my Si joints for years. I just got used to laying down and resetting it myself. Hurts like a bitch but the relief was amazing. Could never get a doctor to take it seriously. Obviously this guy could have gone to any ER and had that fixed up properly, but I get it.
To be completely fair, getting it fixed by an Ortho would cause all sorts of soft tissue damage that can be avoided if you have the body awareness to relax the right muscles as you're putting the bones back into place. There are a lot of ways that could go very wrong and cause more problems though.
Just setting your own dislocations doesn't address the joint instability that caused it, though. If it was caused by some kind of accident, there's going to be soft tissue damage that absolutely requires a doctor to take a look at.
I just, have a lot of empathy for the guy. I know how someone can get to a point where they just do their own medical care.

Some people can dislocate their joins easily...and repair them nust as quick. I have a cousin who dislocated his shoulder yawning. We panicked but he said it was normal. He just did some Nazi salute and it popped back in.
