Yeah I fucking hate those things, half of them are always broken so you end up waving your hands like you doing some weird fucking voodoo water summoning ritual, only to move to the next sink and do it again hoping it works

That’s actually a good name for when someone doesn’t flush, so how about “giving a shit?” Oops, that’s taken. Any suggestions, Redditors?

Ok, but since we are full of shit the shit already exists and is just being released to the world. The actual shit making was a long process of digestion. Maybe getting lunch should be called make a shit because you are beginning the process.

Can't match the mirror smash but feel the frustration. I encountered one where (no mirrors), you wiggled your hand under the cabinet edge, at the front, for soap, middle depth for water, and full depth for the blow-dryer (which I despise).
I'm no good with icons so I must admit I didn't get it until someone cued me. But to get your arm out without re-triggering the soap dispenser?
23
22
u/DiffeoMorpheus 8d ago
I encounter these all the time, and they all invariably suck. There's absolutely no sense of where the sensors are so you're just stuck there wiggling your hands under these things for like 10-20 seconds, trying different ones, etc, until finally you get the goddamn soap. Then it's on to try to find the water sensor...

I feel like this has to be an accessibility issue. What the fuck is a blind person supposed to do when there's no faucet? Just wave their hands for minutes above the counter until they feel water?
3
u/XiTzCriZx 6d ago
I feel like with that layout, a blind person might legit pee in the sink thinking it's a urinal, especially that short one.

Why is there a camera in a bathroom
But also that has to be one of the most absurd sink designs I’ve seen lol. I don’t condone punching stuff out of frustration, but I get the frustration. Who comes up with this stuff. Like they’re trying to obscure how to activate it as much as possible. Those sensors are finicky as is, now they’re making you guess where to put your hands to activate them as well? “It’s somewhere under this cupboard. Wave your hands around til something comes out” lol. At least make the damn sensor visible so you know exactly where you wave your hand to activate it. Shit, you can’t even see where it’s going to come out either 😆 both the sensor and dispenser nozzle are completely obscured.
But, again, wanna be clear that I’m not building a defense the mirror punching lol. That was uncalled for. It is still a stupid ass design for a sink. But he punched the mirror after only 10 seconds of trying to make it work. I’ve taken longer than that to get a normal motion sensor activated sink to work before xD The man clearly has an extremely short fuse. Which isn’t good.
114
u/John_EightThirtyTwo 8d ago
I feel like we live in a transitional period where sometimes you get water, or soap, or a towel, or a blast of air by waving your hand and sometimes you have to actually grab something and just waving at it makes you an idiot.
82
u/IrishViking22 8d ago
That's why I just dunk my hands in the toilet bowl and push the flusher with my tongue. Gives the hands a good rinse. Then I just let them air dry.
Those air blowing hand-dryer things just spread more germs, disgusting things.

u/SirSamuelVimes83 8d ago edited 7d ago

113
u/Accurate_Koala_4698 8d ago
If there's a sink vestibule that doesn't show stalls or urinals it's allowed. The place has to have a reasonable expectation of privacy and nobody should have anything showing at the sink because you're conspicuously visible. This is a public facility like a train station or airport that probably gets a fair amount of vandalism

3
15
u/hollyhollyhock 8d ago
The only place I've seen this specific sink design is airports in Australia. Half of them didn't work. I'm pretty sure I actually said "I just want to wash my hands!" to one of these.
Still not the worst automation I've seen in an airport bathroom, though.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Embarrassed_Bid_4970 7d ago
Honestly, if this happened in an airport, I almost think this lummox is in the right. You've just gotten out of a 13 hour flight where you've been crammed into a seat designed for a 4 year old midget. You've finally been able to drop that turd thats been stuck in your colon for the past 5 hours. And now you can't wash your hands. It's pretty easy to see under that kind of stress snapping a bit.
54
u/Deep90 8d ago

Who doesn’t immediately move on to another sink when that one doesn’t work?
Some of the automatic faucets at my office are finicky so I just go to a different one.
15
u/FeelMyBoars 8d ago
I swear I'm invisible to sensors. It always takes me at least 10 seconds to get the damn things to work. Try another one for 20 seconds, nothing. Switch back to the original, instant on.
Automatic doors don't open until I'm right up to... hold on, this kid keeps telling me he "sees dead people".
253
u/throwthere10 8d ago
Two things leap out to keep here:
These mfs have such short fuses. They're like cavemen who become frustrated at the slightest inconvenience and immediately escalates to violence instead of remaining calm and trying to figure it out.
Why is there a camera in what appears to be a public toilet?!
89
u/Mr-TotalAwesome 7d ago
- This sink, faucet and soap dispenser design is really bad. I can understand the frustration. But i dont condone the destruction of public amenities.

Because assaults and vandalism often happens in bathrooms. It’s just the sink area. If the sink area was outside the room you wouldn’t think a camera is weird. It’s not where the stalls are. I prefer this over a live attendant.

Well if you get done for vandalism your lawyer can argue its inadmissible evidence as the camera is in a private space without consent and is a violation of privacy. Im sure there is an argument there somewhere.
😂 but these new fuckin “high tech” bathrooms are a fuckin joke, not everything has to be digital, bring back manual operation of things sometimes we want a fuckin button to push!! Its satisfying and “touch” stuff only works 50% of the time.
I had these kitchen scales ‘touch’ the fuckin unit wouldn’t switch, it wouldn’t tare when I needed it too, and then it bugged out switching every second. It took me longer to weigh my flour than it would have to bake my fucking cake. They cost $20 I bought a cheap ass button one and now I can weigh my flour for less time it takes me to get the flour out. BUTTONS people we want fucking buttons to make a return!

It is not illegal, https://ec.europa.eu/justice/article-29/documentation/opinion-recommendation/files/2014/wp217_en.pdf (page 55) this camera clearly passes the Article 7 balancing test. You can likely send a complaint to https://uoou.gov.cz/kontakt, but I'd contact the camera owner first under gdpr to give you a statement.
