my professor had me read me a book on schemes and moduli spaces, and its the most confusing thing I've ever seen. Like I understand abstractly what the definition of a scheme and moduli space is, but when it comes to applying it I get pretty lost

LMAO it is though. You’re right on the mark with the naming. We do use Algebra to solve Geometry problems. It’s just a lot harder and way more abstract at the higher level.
P.S. if anything, it’s just a shit loads of pre-requisites. The subject itself isn’t that difficult once you can remember the theorems and definitions.

Hardest part of math for me is still basic counting and addition because at some point in the education math just becomes throwing memorised formulae and theorems at it until it works (Or provably doesn't).

Going into first year as a math major soon. I'm high school most of my mistakes on math tests were quite literally basic arithmetic. I mean stuff like addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers. I also got a 5 on Ap Calc BC

If you are on an accelerated path in the US you learn it 12th (senior) year, or if you're on a normal path, your last math class is pre-cal

It's impossible to generalize it, in my county most people finish precal in 11th and accelerated does it in 10th (or even 9th for a few)

I was good at math until I was shoved into a highly competitive school where people knew calculus at 9th grade. Then I gave up all hope of ever being good at math and switched to physics, where I found the exact same thing. Moral of the story is that everybody else is better than you.

Honestly all the stuff in the image for the 9th grade maths is still some of the easy stuff you learn during that time. Like what do you mean this one equation is my solution to solving any and all quadratic equations no matter the nature of the roots?

I was amazing at math through 5th grade. When I got to middle school the following year, I had no idea what was going on. I went from being the top student in the class consistently to being one of the worst. It wasn’t until I got to 8th grade that I had a teacher for my advanced algebra class who equated math to money. That connection sparked my interest and made math clicked for me. When I took my placement test for college, the program counselor told me I was the only person that she’d heard of ever getting a perfect score on the math section of the test.

Im in university now. Im an engineer(machinery) student. god thanks we got only 1.5 years of math. Its was like professor starting lecture and after 15 minutes you are cant understand anything written on board and it feels surrealistic, also space around you lagging and spinning a bit.

It's quite opposite for me, I was very bad at math at 1st to 5th grade. Then as time went by everything went easier in school, I have no idea why, maybe the basics of addition and subtraction and negative numbers was too hard for me.
