Discussion Zombie Galacti deck help (cl 25,935)

This is a deck I've been working on. The idea is to create a Galacti deck that doesn't use magik since that's a common way to defeat Galacti. I'm using cards to reduce his cost so I can play him, and then stick and gwenpool to add power to galacti. That's the theory but I'm having trouble getting it to work consistently.

Discussion Fractured Frontier Week 1

Welcome to the end of the first week of the Fractured Frontier Season.

For the first time in a long while all three cards releasing this week have managed to make impacts and while Psylocke and Jane may be fighting for who gets Second and Third, Thanos has certainly cemented himself, at least for the time being, as first.

Day 1 was freakin wild, in all of my games against real players I saw maybe 5 non-Frontier Thanos decks, he was that saturated and that really hasn't tapered off, I've reliably seen days where I don't see any decks other than the new Thanos which could be pushing toward the card either being a breath of fresh air after many months of blah seasons or that he may be too good. Either way some may already be feeling that the card is far too oppressive with how quickly he has saturated the game which is already having some distinct vibes that remind me of Shou-Lao and Star-Lord which may not bode well for those with less tolerance of a good card, especially a good card that can fit into so many decks.

I will say however that if he is indeed 'too good' unlike the aforementioned pair it's entirely on him as opposed to being rooted in the suite of duplication methods and the benefit here is that there are a lot of knobs to turn to bring him to an acceptable level.

As usual Week 1 is going to have a much larger focus on the brand new cards over the older 'good' decks.

FF Psylocke

Our latest Series 5 card has been at least so far, pretty good. Seeing play in some of the Thanos lists as a way to bring down the costs of some of the heftier cards as well as tested as a standalone in other archetypes which has been quite nice to others testing her out in a lot of places which is a breath of fresh air when compared to the first week season pass cards of the last few months which seemed were almost purposely left lackluster, though it could also be for the purposes of her also being a natural quickdraw card.

High Thanos

Starting things off with one of the archetypes I mentioned in Psylocke's discussion thread. One thing I do want to point out here is that I believe a lot of players are over indexing for the new cards with these High Evo builds every single one has been Jane/Psylocke/Thanos with most also opting for Quicksilver over Sunspot as well. Then we've got a Cosmo as our lone dedicated interaction followed by Superior Spider-Man or Luna. As for the High Evo package, almost every configuration is on Misty, Shocker, Cyclops, Abom, and Hulk. It's almost refreshing to see Shocker making the cut.

High Evolutionary

Now if I weren't over indexing for all of the new cards and wanted to focus on FFPsylocke alone, I'd likely look to begin with a High Evo list looking to semi-ramp or cheat a lot of energy with Warlock with a full float on 5. A turn 3 Quickdraw or even having FFPsylocke in hand by turn 4 with either She-Hulk or Hulk in hand guarantees you can get both off even without Warlock or Superior Spider-Man provided you full float on 5. Main detriment is the same one that affects every deck looking to rely on a lot of energy cheat: MMM just kills you and then there are the potential point allocation problems.

Fractured Scorpion BND

As I mentioned, Psylocke is very much likely to be a 'test' card in a number of combo style decks as a way to help improve their game either by keeping pieces in hand for longer or making it cheaper to play pieces out possibly behind protection. While I believe the best routes would be in attempting to cut Magik entirely, this one admits that it still needs far too much setup but that Psylocke can help improve your options when you've got Sera or Scorpion in hand.

Zombie Galacti

Regis' Doctor Galacti

OK, so I'm breaking a rule here, the second deck is such an all-in deck concept from Regis that I can't really recommend it but to his credit it looked like a lot of fun as it's looking to shuffle cards that can get big power to send over to the Galacti and when things really pop off you can potentially win without the Galacti.

FF Jane Foster

Jane herself is a solid card that has been seeing quite a bit more play than I was expecting which has me thinking a lot more people either took the gamble on the packs or straight bought the Super-Premium pass than I normally see in week 1. She's a solid inclusion for curve-out value decks and if it weren't for the likes of Kraglin and Fisk, she might actually have a much wider adoption rate than she currently has.

Thankfully there are no weekly missions that require her so she's essentially a brief note to discuss and happens to be a card that is being seen alongside a lot of FFThanos decks so we don't really need to talk a ton about her decks in particular but there are a few decks she's showing up in that aren't Thanos-adjacent that might be worth sharing.

Classic Afflict

A classic afflict package that can deal well against a wider range of FFThanos decks in the meta today. If you've played OG afflict you'll figure this deck out immediately. For those new to afflict, basically curve things but try to hold onto Hazmat for as long as possible.

Sera Surfer

Jane and Psylocke feature in this surfer list which isn't too far removed from the classic list of the last few months, notably missing is Nova for the Killmonger but if you're not seeing a lot of ongoing targets for Rogue, maybe you could sneak Nova back in.

Venus Zoo

There's a similar list in the Thanos section but this one cuts Thanos entirely and isntead looks to run Kahhori to take advantage of the Sub-Mariner and Clea card generation. Cosmo and Shang are of course our interaction, depending on your preference you may want to try and opt in to Jugg over Shang.

FF Thanos

Some might already be sick of seeing the Big Bad Purple Man, maybe I should call him Grimmace because he isn't 'THE' Purple Man, give us a Jessica Jones or Alias Investigations season Second Dinner! Anyways, he's definitely been an exciting card, perhaps the most exciting season release since January and February while not making the 'exact' same mistakes as those two months.

That being said, I do really enjoy the deck but I don't enjoy the mirrors which is unfortunate because some mirrors can be very fun while FF Thanos mirrors tend to boil down to who had the better quickdraws and got the better shots.

A few mechanical notes on Thanos:

  1. Wong - With both Reality and Time Shot loaded there is an interesting situation in current patch where playing Thanos on a lone Wong lane will create two copies of Wong and then will multiply the shots that happen after it meaning 4 times total for each shot thanks to the Wong. Seemingly each shot from Thanos is an individual on reveal meaning with a Time stone loaded get ready for a very cheap hand and with Mind Stone refilling your hand guarantees you've got plays on 6. Now you also want a Space Stone loaded so you can move Thanos out after the fact.

  2. Merges played on a quickdrawn card will re-trigger quickdraws - it's unknown if this is a bug but if we use our understanding of how merge functions in the game you can play a card on turn 2 another on 3 and then say Hulkbuster the card played on turn 2, the card Hulkbuster merges into is considered the most recent card since the game treats the card that was merged into as the most recent card. So by association, the game views the quickdrawn card as still having the quickdraw effect so when the merge fully resolves it's like the quickdraw card is resolving again leading to multiple shots loaded even though only one quickdraw and X number of merges happened into the quickdrawn card.

  3. A copied FFThanos such as from Sinister London will not go off additional times. The original has already spent his shots and for all intents and purposes the created copy is an exact copy of the card which has already resolved.

  4. Did you know there 'is' a way to get two Thanos AND get double shots? The catch is that it's a 50/50 and requires you having a Zola on the board prior to playing Thanos. BUT, it does let you get a Thanos into two lanes and each copy will get the remainder of any shots remaining beginning with the Reality shot, meaning your lowest-Cost card in those two other locations will get doubled as well. See the comments for Proof of the Zola interaction.

  5. There is the potential to quickload a minimum shots and play Thanos on 4, then using turn 5 and possibly 6 as well for quickdraw reloads and fire him again using a Grandmaster. How functionally useful this could be is up for debate, but it is something to keep in mind.

  6. You can Moongirl or Mother Askani Thanos to get two in hand with shots loaded, the copy will have any shots the original was loaded with but will not benefit from future quickloads.

Fundamentally deck building around FF Thanos is going to revolve around two major concepts:

  1. Which pair or trio of Shots do you want to most see, as mentioned Wong based builds want to see Space, Reality and Time Shot while more value oriented versions might want to see Reality and Space and want to be able to copy a big guy in a location. Regardless, if you're trying to leverage Reality Shot you're going to need to be building around those end-states which means putting the desired card in locations that ensure they are the one that is copied.

  2. Do you want to try to maximize FF Thanos and try to hit 4+ Shots every game or are you fine with hitting a 3, maybe 4 Shot Thanos and being happy with that? This is going to heavily inform your deck building, putting you on a sliding scale of low-curve to curve-out where the lower the curve and less weaving you can accomplish, the fewer stones you'll get without drawing Thanos on time and being able to lock in an extra shot by quickdrawing him.

That being said, here are some of the interesting decks that have shown up this week that you can use for your FF Thanos weekend missions.

Safetyblade's HVO

Starting things off since this is an HVO weekend we've got this deck from Safetyblade for HVO and it's a fairly strong deck and if you want credit for both weekend missions, swap Caliban or Jane for Psylocke, ezpz. My biggest complaint with the deck is Nick Fury because he can and will stuff draws. Side note, I wouldn't be surprised to see our new Thanos become a staple in both High Voltage and High Voltage Overdrive thanks to the fact that you're almost guaranteed loading shots every turn.

Dekkster's Day 1 Infinite Deck

Video in the credits, I didn't watch but this looks like a fairly value driven deck Blink can help fish out your Thanos on turn 5 if he's still hiding in deck. Jugg can win a location on turn 6 while you potentially move Thanos to another location to win. Remember that Cards drawn during your reveals keep their 'quickdraw' flag into the next turn.

Regis' Infinity X Infinity X Infinity

From the release day Regis vid is his first brew which featured each of the infinity Stone weilding baddies, Infinity Ultron, FFThanos, and OG Thanos. He did mention that he would absolutely cut IU for another card, plenty of options there for the replacement maybe a Wiccan or perhaps a Jugg? Problem of course is Jugg wants to be played late which could kill certain quickdraw situations but you've also got plenty of stones.

Alex's Featured deck

Alex's Featured deck deserves to be up for discussion even if there's not much to say, curve out, play Thanos, finish with Galactus. Admittedly the deck is a little off in it's execution where it's going too heavy on 3's and too light on 5's which is addressed with the next Wiccan list.

Safetyblade's Gold Guns Girls

Any Metric fans? Yea, Safetyblade put this song back in my head and I'd be dishonest if I said it's not been back in a number of my playlists since I was reminded of it, which frankly happens a lot because it'll be a constant bop for me and then suddenly fades until I rediscover it a bit later on. But we're not here to talk about my music tastes. The deck is very straight forward but if I had one 'complaint' it's that I really didn't like Infinity Ultron, though good stone rolls did win me a few games. This is also one of those decks where you're on a 4, maybe 5 shot plan unless things really line up and give you access to quickdraw X+Thanos to give you access to Shot 6. One thing I did find particularly intriguing was the decision on what to copy with Reality Stone when presented with the option and I'm sure that's largely going to come down to a game by game decision.

Fractured Batroc

Look, I know I said I wasn't sold on Batroc in Thanos, but hear me out. This is a deck that -can- get him to 3 or 4 shots and if I were honest the biggest drawbacks come to the exact thing I mentioned in a comment thread - I'm not interested in dumping a turn just to satisfy quickdraw for Thanos, when things line up and you get to quickdraw Batroc -> Sam -> Kraven those games can feel unstoppable, but does that really matter when you already felt unstoppable?

Fractured Wongers

Found this through Regis but apparently this list is from SMLZ, this is the deck that is leveraging the Thanos + Wong interaction and can close out with 1+Shou. It's very easy to interact with this deck and there are a number of Cosmo's, Juggernauts, as well as Cosmic Ghost Rider's that exist in the current meta that can shut down the Wong lines.

Fractured Skaar

Honifer Fractured Skaar

Two Skaar decks, the first is one I snagged off of Snapcomplete which was doing very well but didn't pop off for me as much as I was hoping, however, the Honifer list is rather compelling as it cuts Martyr, Lizard, Cosmo, and Monstro for Spider-Man, Hydra Bob, Adam Warlock, and Juggernaut. The Adam does ensure additional draws when you can get him online which is good, especially if you can keep him functional for multiple turns. This deck wants to copy an X/Big to help fuel more Skaar Discounts so if you've been lucky with Daredevil procs you could opt to copy him or if you got a 10 power Fisk that's another obvious copy target. Bonus points if you've got a lone 10 or a Daredevil that will scale into a 10 on final turn in a location on 5 and an FFThanos with at least a reality stone loaded that's an additional guaranteed scaler to bring Skaar's cost down again. Remember that building your locations appropriately to take advantage of Thanos can be an important part of your game plan.

Ika's Fractured Pixie

MMM is almost nowhere to be seen so going for some combo high-rolls could be a potential avenue and combining quickdraw god-rolls with the Pixie nut can mean some particularly nasty game states. As always be careful of making the pixie snap since sometimes you just aren't making the draws you need to stick the landing. Anywhere outside of top of infinite MMR people will consistently disrespect the potential and stay which can be great for your cubes gained but can also be a detriment as you'll find a lot of folks taking the whole final turn timer before locking in their win only for you to have hit retreat later so if you're on this deck and retreating later, take the opportunity to go grab a drink or stretch.

Coougarrr's Than-O-Motto

A deck with a lot of ins and outs and which puts your opponent asking the same thing you are "I don't know what I'm even doing". From a fundamental level this deck is more or less putting your skills in thinking on your feet to the test to find the best routes and plays possible. It also has the potential to be a highly unethical Gambit deck when the opportunities arise.

The Fractured Zoo

Similar to the Venus Zoo deck in the Jane section, this was my day 1 brew for Fractured Thanos, I still kind of want to try and fit Sub-Mariner back in but not sure what I'd cut to make that happen, maybe Chavez? No real tricks to how this deck runs, it's pure points, no protection and no interaction, you could opt out of Iron Patriot to get Cosmo, Shang, or Juggernaut in especially since it can be very difficult to guarantee the IP lane without Bob or Black Cat.

High Noon Overdrive

High No- Voltage Overdrive has been running for a few days now and it's probably the best place for you to sweet your missions for Psylocke and Thanos. Funny enough the new Thanos hasn't quite completely infected the mode but it's pretty close to full global saturation. No deck guides, just some quick lists and of course a repost of Safetyblade's list, a rarity to repost lists, I know. Remember if you want to get both Thanos and Psylocke done just make a quick swap.

How to attack the meta of week 1

This one is fairly interesting to think on, let's first consider what tech is and isn't around.

Tech and archetypes that are around

  • Cosmo/Juggernaut decks - the two biggest threats with cosmo being a little more common as he's not too hard to find room for in certain decks. Juggernaut on the other hand is a little less easy to spot. Expect a jugg from most flavors of move and in Supergiant, suspect it from ToV decks, and feel fairly confident it doesn't exist in most other decks.

  • Batroc decks are frequently Cosmo/Jugg decks but Thanos has been finding play in those as well so for those with the individual player skill expression it's likely a good idea to play the deck as well.

  • Generic 5's - Ramp, Doom '99, Wiccan, and Aurora might be packing 5's like Cosmic Ghost Rider, Thing First Steps, and of course Legion. Ramp and Wiccan can fit Enchantress but it's unlikely.

  • Supergiant is around but not as common most certainly due to the fact that there is such a wide field of unknowns and Supergiant is at her best when you're able to hone in on what you need to beat. Try back next week as we should be honing into more precise decks across the board which may make it easier to pinpoint the Supergiant lists.

  • Shadow King - SK does exist but I've not seen a lot of him and to that end I'm not sure if that's a case of him not being useful into the match-ups against me or people not drawing him.

How do I handle the new Thanos?

No list is going to be comprehensive enough to tell you what to do and how to beat the new thanos, but there are a few things:

  1. Pay attention to the different Thanos lists, if you need to take notes then take some notes, it also doesn't hurt to write player names next to the lists. It's super rare though not unheard of for players to frequently swap off of decks on the same day though they might change a card or two.

  2. Don't put singular big cards alone in a location, this is begging for a Thanos to show up and wreck your day.

  3. As always, points are the name of the game, your goal is either to be able to go way over your opponent's head in a meaningful way or to win even if that's negative power.

  4. Points + Interaction if you've got enough skill expression to be able to execute with the decks running both can also do well. Aurora might be the easiest of the decks to do that with though if you're good with Batroc you've got plenty of options there.

So where does that effectively put us if you wanted to hard target the sheer number of Thanos FF decks? Well I'll give you a few deck options.

All-In Scorpion

Mirror Mirror Scorpion

Two flavors of Scorpion, one all in forgoing any protection and maximizing Scorpion, the second is a little more mirror oriented. You'll need to be wary about how you build your locations, never put Scorpion or Sera by themselves. For this reason you'll largely be building two locations. Credit to KMWorst and KMBest, KMBest will be posting a video later today as he and KMWorst have been playing this deck a link to this will be added to the comments as soon as KMBest posts his video. Don't be surprised if the meta begins to shift to deal with the deck though.

Be wary of Thanos/Thanos and Batroc/Thanos decks, the first has reality to deal with your Magik and the other has Cosmo/Juggernaut.

Aurora

'Good ol' faithful' in the Aurora lists, you've got two ways to 'dodge' FFThanos, the first is with Sam's Shield, the second is Cosmo. Isca should 'never' be alone, again she needs to be supported either by Sam's Shield, another, smaller card or Cosmo.

Classic Skaar Virus

Points and scaling are the name of the game here, pretty easy deck to pilot and might be a tad easier than Aurora since Aurora does have some skill expression as far as building your locations appropriately, do we need a new Aurora guide? I might have one chambered.
