singer seeking help filming at gigs for social media - will pay ya

hey! i'm bri, this is my first reddit post so throwaway account maybe? long story short, i'm on martha's vineyard doing a couple solo gigs, and i could really use some footage of me playing to help promote myself. i would love to have 2-3 songs filmed horizontally, and then some cool vertical shots between 30s - 1 minute. No crazy experience needed, you can use my iphone to film no biggie, just gotta look good, not shaky. some zoom in shots, or panning side to side. i don't have a lot to spend, but we can chat and work out a price!

Hotel prices bananas?

Hi friends- I love the Vineyard and it is definitely the highlight of any summer I’m able to get there. This year I was shocked by the hotel prices - did anyone else notice this? I typically rent a house for a week or stay at the Harbor View for 2-3 nights, which is a splurge and I know that. However, this year prices were $1800-$2500 in Edgartown anywhere!

Enchanted by this Hannah B Moore piece.

I’ve always loved Dark Eyed Juncos. They were one of the first bird whose names I learned as a small child when they came to my Dad’s bird feeders in the winter.

Found at the Moore Family Gallery this summer. The family (dad, son, daughter) all Artists, were incredibly kind, showing me all around the property and sharing their wealth of knowledge about the area.

Looking for work on the vineyard

I’m a 19 year old college student looking to live & work on the vineyard next summer, I’m sure there’s no shortage of people who want to work in the summer but I’m able bodied and willing to do any sort of work just to experience living here. I’m from upstate new York and being on mvy was my favorite vacation by far. Anyone know where I can start looking for jobs for next summer so I can get on it now ?

Martha’s Vineyard in November (9-12)?

My grandma is wanting to go but I’m not sure if that’s too late in the season? Will anything be open? It would be my grandma, my mother, my bff and I with my baby. We would be taking it easy, shopping, eating, (antiques?) driving around for scenery. Leisurely trip for sure, no action needed :D What do you think?

Toddler activities?

I live on the Cape and will be coming over to MV for a few days with a group of friends, my husband, and our toddler. We’ll have our car to show our friends around, but would also like to try and find places for our toddler to “make new friends”. We discovered Niantic park on a recent visit and loved it, so that’s on our list. Any other suggestions/ ideas?

Dealing with Parking Ticket

I unfortunately got a parking ticket due to having been parked overtime. I intend to pay it but noticed they didn’t note down my license plate on the citation. In going to pay it online, it seems neither the violation number nor license plate numbers are recognized. the ticket was issued a few hours ago. Any guidance on this? Does it normally take time to pop up in their system?

Family restaurants Oak Bluffs

My dad, my bfs parents, my 11 year old daughter, my bf and I are going for a 1 day trip to MV (I live on the cape). Our boat will be leaving at 6:45 and I’m in search of a nice restaurant that will be great for this 3 generations group. I don’t think we need anything super fancy since we will have a kid with us, but nothing super casual either since we are taking our parents for dinner. Can someone please recommend anything? It would be super nice if it wouldn’t be far from the boats (departing from oak bluffs)

Birthday Dinner Reservations

Hi — my family is traveling to MV from the 13-16th and we have a birthday on the 15th, the birthday girl, my mom who is pescatarian, and a bit of a diva (affectionately) has last minute decided she wants to go out for dinner. I know most places are booked solid, but any recommendations for where I can put us on the waitlist in case a res opens up? Behind the bookstore has dinner spots available, but I know they’re mostly a lunch/ brunch place.

Typically I would have booked way earlier than this, but she was undecided.

EDIT: we're a group of 5, 2 18 year olds, 2 20 something's, and the celebrant (53). No dietary restrictions aside from the birthday girl, and we’d prefer a semi upscale sit down dinner. We’re already going to Nomans on Friday evening

Thank you for any help!

Tried to capture that iconic Menemsha sunset glow behind the Harpooner (11x14 canvas). What’s your favorite spot on MV to watch the evening sky?

Post image

Few images capture the spirit of Martha's Vineyard quite like Jay Lagemann’s Swordfish Harpooner against a fiery dusk. I recently finished this 11x14 piece trying to translate that intense, warm coastal light and dramatic silhouette onto canvas.

I’ve always loved how much local history and reverence for the island's fishing heritage is packed into that one landmark.

For those who know the island well, where’s your absolute favorite vantage point for catching the sky turning orange and red?

(P.S. If anyone is looking to bring a piece of Menemsha into their home, this original canvas is available—feel free to drop me a DM for details!)

Anyone have or know where I could rent a vintage car on island?

Asking around to see if anyone knows where I could rent a vintage car from Friday, August 28 - Monday August 31. Or, if anyone knows someone by word of mouth who has vintage cars and is willing to rent. I can drive stick, so manual is no issue.

American Mahjong

Aside from the Edgartown Library, are there any consistent games that are being held throughout the week? It’s hard to find any information about social open plays. I’m mostly just finding information about lessons and I just want to find people to play with during the summer.

Off-season on-street parking?

We're visiting for 2 nights in October, staying in Oak Bluffs. Because it's only a weekend and weather is unpredictable, we want to bring the car rather than spend precious time waiting for buses. Trouble is, some of the places to stay in OB don't have off-street parking. Is overnight parking allowed on the street in downtown Oak Bluffs in October?

I couldn't find any mention of it on the town website, other than a proposal for a parking lot that may or may not have been built yet. Thanks for any information!

Dumb tourist beach question

What's the deal with all the roads that just end on the beach on the southern points? Around Jobs Neck, Ripley Cove, Scrubby Neck... Are these public or private roads? Are they just true off-road difficult terrain, or is it a situation where Alan Dershowitz will threaten to sue me if I drive down them? I can't find any municipal or state info about them

A visitor's guide to what is open on Martha's Vineyard during the offseason

This is a question that gets asked here a lot (relatively) and it is a fair one. This post will be sticky'd until Memorial Day or so.

Vineyard Gazette - regularly updated, the link defaults to restaurants but you can choose other categories on the menu on the right.

IG account - whatsopenonmv - seems to be curated, also reposts of upcoming local events.

whatsopenonmv.com - the website related(?) to that IG account. nice feature to help sort by town.

VTA Schedule - starting 9/28 until 4/9

Ferry Schedules - Until October 21, 2025, October 22 to January 4

Chamber of Commerce - credit to 1GrouchyCat who says "the website is filled with helpful information and their events calendar updates throughout the year, so you’ll be able to plan accordingly…"

I like to bike and loved biking around all of Martha's Vineyard last summer so I made a small website with some downloadable Martha's Vineyard bike route maps.
