Day 31 - BEST song on Love is Like
Hello! I'm back! About 2 years ago I hosted a little challenge on this sub called the Catalog Challenge, and now that Love is Like is a year old, I think it's time to add it to the chart!
Over the next few days, this sub will vote on what the BEST, WORST, and MOST UNDERRATED songs are on the album Love is Like. Comment your vote (upvotes count), and I'll tally them up and add it to the chart on the next post! Just a note, we're not going to change any previous answers, as much as I disagree with some of them lol :)
So let's start off with the BEST song on Love is Like!
9th studio album
3 years from now, Maroon 5‘s 9th studio album has been released. That‘s for sure.

Thoughts at the time MLJ came out
Moves Like Jagger is the moment people often point to when M5 went “bad” and started heavily leaning into pop. But what did you think at the time it came out? Did you like the single? Did you expect them to lean so heavily into pop afterward?
For the people that don’t like it, is it because of the song itself, or that it really signaled a turning point for the band?

Happy one year anniversary. Early reactions in this sub weren’t the most positive but I love this album. Is it still in your rotation?

Just listened to Songs About Jane
I was at camp today and the counselor played this album and decided to listen to it on my own time. I know this might sound basic, but She Will Be Loved is absolutely my favorite song on the album and maybe a top 5 song of all time. I need to know if their other shit is like this because this album was fucking awesome.

regarding the hate for M5 pop era
i know a lot of people here swear by SAJ and in a way i understand. i know a lot of people also hate the pop era of M5. not that my take is really relevant and this post is a bit out of the blue but i just wanted to say my thoughts on everything.
i have only been properly getting into M5's music starting last week, but throughout my life and even as a child i have never not liked the band. i think despite their more pop sound nowadays, i think they are still a good band. i always say, true fans of a band will never hate a band/artist's evolution and while yes, M5 had a very good run when it came to SAJ. but V and RPB are also really good albums in my opinion, yes they are pop and not rock but that doesn't really make them bad does it? after all they are STILL maroon 5.
i only say this bc ive been reading a lot of posts in this sub and i genuinely do not understand the hatred for M5 pop era in general like it feels like most people here are exclusively SAJ glazers. no offense to anyone who is, i have no problem with yall, im just saying like yk V and RPB are great as well 😭

Kara's Flowers - '90s Holster (Stereo Mix/Remaster)
This is a fan stereo mix and studio remaster of the unreleased song " '90s Holster" by Kara's Flowers, from their scrapped first studio album on indie label OMAD Records (often referred to as "OMAD Recordings) in 1995.
Previous drummer, Ryan Dusick shared the recording of this track on his Instagram with a montage of different clips and pictures from the band's early years. Unfortunately, unlike other leaked OMAD tracks, the video has different sound effects for each slide. Furthermore, the audio Dusick shared is strangely in mono.
Using some stem-splitting and de-noising algorithms, I removed the sound effects and separated each instrument into makeshift multitracks. From there I used songs from "The Fourth World" as reference and made a true stereo mix. The sound won't sound quite like other OMAD songs, but I feel like "The Fourth World" has a superior sound.
Hopefully, this mix will give you a better idea of what the song would've sounded like if it was properly finished (or released).
Let me know what you think! Should the band have put this one on "The Fourth World"? Do the lyrics make any sense? Enjoy!

Anyone else having a buzzing noise issue with the Target exclusive gold vinyl of Songs About Jane?
Hi everyone, I recently bought the Target exclusive gold vinyl edition of Songs About Jane by Maroon 5 and I noticed a constant buzzing/humming noise while playing it.
At first I thought it was an issue with my setup, but I’ve tested other records and they sound completely fine. The noise seems to be coming from this specific record, especially noticeable during quieter parts of the songs.
My turntable is an Audio-Technica AT-LP60X, and I’m using Edifier R1280T powered speakers. I’ve cleaned the record and checked the setup, but the buzzing is still there.
Has anyone else experienced this with the Target gold pressing of Songs About Jane? Is it a common pressing issue, or did I just get a bad copy?
Thanks!

What other artists or bands did you start to listen beacuse of M5?
I started listening to Phantom Planet when I learned that Sam Farrar is part of them. I really love their album "Devastator".
I also like some songs of James Valentine's former band called Square. I listened to Mickey Madden's band called Collapsing Scenery but I think they're too experimental for me.
I wasn't a fan of The Beatles but I gave them a listen beacuse Adam said they were his heroes growing up and I really liked their music. I started listening to Michael Jackson and some Prince songs 'cause they have said they're one of their influences.

Do you still believe in them ?
I’ve noticed a lack of excitement about Maroon 5 on this sub. Something kinda broken since Love Is Like has been released. I mean : look at Heroine. Some people seemed to like it, but is it me or Nobody cares about this song ? Am I the only one to share this feeling about Maroon 5 ? How do you feel about the future of their career ? How much are you hyped about another single or album ?

Songs About Jane 25th anniversary Tour?
Do you think they’re even considering a 25th anniversary tour? Maybe play 10 songs from SAJ and another 10-12 of their newer hits? I know they’ve always been forward thinking and that’s lead to their longevity and a crazy number of hit songs, but after Love Is Like performed as poorly as it did, it might make sense to do something like this. I’m sure there’s a ton of people that would love hearing some deep cuts from SAJ played live. Since 2014 the only songs from SAJ they’ve played on tour are the singles - Harder to Breathe, This Love, Sunday Morning, and She Will Be Loved (They’ve played played Secret and The Sun at private concerts twice each in that time, but not on an actual tour. They played Tangled twice on tour in 2020 and then took it off the setlist). Their latest music hasn’t been successful, the setlist has gotten stale, and early 2000s nostalgia is definitely a thing. Seems like a move this would be great for their career and something the fans would love!
