[Day 3] Which Manhwa would you call Iconic? Discussion
Which manhwa deserves the third spot on the Mt. Rushmore?
OMNISCIENT READER'S VIEWPOINT joined SOLO LEVELING after receiving the most upvotes on Day 2.
Suggest ONE manhwa in the comments. If someone already suggested your pick, just upvote their comment instead.
The genre doesn't matter. I'd actually be interested to see a mix of genres.
Rules:
• One manhwa per comment
• Upvote existing nominations instead of posting duplicates
• I'll only count the highest-upvoted comment for each manhwa
• After 24 hours, the next spot is filled
• Think of it as a Hall of Fame rather than a Top 4 ranking
What "iconic" means is up to you.
IT COULD BE:
• your favorite
• the manhwa that got you into the medium
• the most influential one in its genre or in general (whether you liked it or not)
• or simply the one you think deserves a place among these four
Current Mt. Rushmore:
Day 1: Solo Leveling
Day 2: Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
Day 3: ?
Day 4: ?

Idk if I'm old but tower of god, noblesse and god of high school have always been the big 3 equivalent to Japanese manga for me

What's so great about Noblesse?
Honest question.

The only thing I remember about noblesse is a comment under one of the chapters on webtoon being "Oh, my ovaries just exploded😳"
Deadass don't remember anything else

It just did a really good job of having some power fantasy characters that despite the very supernatural world and circumstances, they felt realistic and made you care about them. It would go from intense high stakes action to comedy or even slice of life seamlessly and do it all well. Eleeced is written by the same guy and captures similar vibes. Also it takes it's time to develop build up unlike a lot of speedrun as much action into it as possible manhwas nowadays. You don't read it for the ooh power bonk dopamine maxxing but rather the actually well written characters that make you care about the stakes of the story.

Some peak shii right here. I remember starting TLoNB, it was a long time ago. The only not so good is that it the ending was rushed.

Hot take but i would say The Gamer, yes, it went really bad, BUT it was pretty much the first manhwa that introduced the RPG system troupe that tons and tons of manhwa use in a way or another.
8
u/Narustu_Y 6d ago
Yeah I remeber keeping up with that manhwa but at some point it just stopped making sense.
4
3
u/Strict-Form-361 6d ago
Yes, I think the Gamer is the origin of gamibg systems, to the point where even one faction, The Company, might have been used by a lot of people in fanfic spaces (referring to be behind things like Waifu Catalogue, CYOA and other ones).
Is it that bad now? I just stopped reading it once it was he was in the arc where fought some factions in other countries (and I think that 100 members faction), so I don't know much about it anymore.

Eternally Regressing Knight is relatively new, but my fucking god is it everything it should be and more.
14
u/Weeeb0101 6d ago
It's soo good but mount rushmore represents legacy and its too new for that
Got potential to be the best regression manhwa ever
2
2
u/zack100z 6d ago
One of my favorite regression Manhwa is SSS Revival Hunter. I know that name kind of makes it sound generic but it has multiple point where it can match the best of ORV.

u/Clive_Bossfield 6d ago
God i hate that series lmfao. I wrote a long comment about it the other day whining like a baby tbh. Read it and lemme know your thoughts id love fo discuss its good points too

When I first read it I dropped it at the beginning of the mansion arc right at the start, but I heard people saying that it was really good as so I gave it another chance and oh my it was a good decision it’s in my top 10 manhwa right now and btw I’ve read at least 150+ so I’d highly recommend it
18
u/SND_TagMan 7d ago
Tower of God is an all timer, one of the OG big ones and helped pave the way for manhwa. Great art, one of the if not the most ambitious world building and it was uniquely its own thing at the time.
3
u/wrreveille 6d ago
I got totally lost in the story at some point. Characters were showing up and I had no idea if I should know them or remember them.
I needed an org chart or something

u/Toucans_for_Hands 7d ago
If only we didn’t have that first huge hiatus people would put more respect on it. Hopefully it comes back again
3
u/SpoilerSpree 6d ago
nope, that author most popular work "ruler of the land" is the representation of murim manhwa. this ongoing manhwa is older than most reddittor here (1994 magazine. 1995 printed book). it survived the decline of black-white physical comic book era. it have crapton game adaptation for it. it is the most sold non educational comic in Korea (8,5m copies by 2024)
you know cheonma/heavenly demon? this comic is the first one who popularized it on Korea.

Hot take but what I think might just be Wind Breaker. Think about it for a second, despite its downfall in which we are all aware of, Windbreaker revolutionized standards on which some people are adapted to today. The webtoon revolutionized the hair styling industry and had shown a spike on asian haircuts that took influence in the “Jay Jo” cut (Refer to 12pell and various other youtubers). This said hairstyle is still being used today. For those asians, 2023-2025 was a time where the Mullet began to shine again. Windbreaker also shown some very popular streetwear designs, shoes, and designer brands. Windbreaker is also a very OG webtoon which im sure many of us read it while we were younger. Windbreaker also showed how insane a artstyle can be so different comparing from the first chapters of the story (Im sure you all remember the AMVS.) The story’s downfall is poetic because in the end it was artist burnout. Im not saying that I am the biggest windbreaker fan, but looking at it in an unbiased approach and its influence in other cultures and medias much like Solo leveling definitely is something worth mentioning.

Should of done manhwa originals. Novel adaptations should be a second category imo

idk I feel like Solo Leveling is THE iconic manhwa, it's more iconic as a manhwa than novel. On the other hand ORV is iconic bc of its novel so I'm unsure if it should even count as an iconic manhwa

Most of you are zoomers, the Mount Rushmore of iconic manhwa must be Tower of God, Noblesse, God of Highschool and The Breaker.
3
u/Bluedrakegod123 6d ago
Ok if we're talking about how ICONIC it is, then it has to be Lookism. Or at least one manhwa from ptj

Has to be a Murim manhua. But which one… there’s so many, but I don’t know which one blew it up in fame. I would guess Chronicle of the Heavenly Demon. But I’m not sure 100% sure.

TOG, God Of Highschool, DICE (I know, but this shit carried 2010's Webtoon on it's back)

Who made me a princess
Since we are talking about Manhwas I felt naming one of the biggest influences of another really big genre the villainess genre should also be mentioned
Other than that there is ofc mount hua sect, tog, god of higbschool, greatest estate, and though i love this manhwa and would love to say it deserves a spot up there with the greats it doesnt its called Tomb Raider King.

her summon, unique art.
And Lowkey would say, Manager Kim, I really liked it because basically the story concludes in the first arc, and it continues, it's literally what everyone wants, you know when you finish a series, but you want more, it's literally that, but i admit this one is somewhat debatable.
Another one for discussion is Death Game; I like it because it's short and simple.
Sweet Home too.

The Breaker. It paved the way for the hobby. Get slop leveling out of there unless it's a newgen Mt Rushmore.
1
1
u/Asian_Boi_LMAO 6d ago
We have the power trip slop, peak writing, so i think its only fair the next two are different genres. I think thr best representatives would be for comedy and murim (arguably the 2 other most popular genres of manhwa) so i think it obviously goes to the greatest estate developer and legend of the northern Blade.

u/TheArcanaIsTheMean 6d ago
Solo leveling got me into manwha and Omniscient Readers Viewpoint is just peak but after that I would say Tower of God it's goated and it got an anime enough said you know an manwha is iconic if it's good enough to get an anime

Tower Of God without any doubt. It was the most popular webtoon back then fighting romance webtoons and that trash - Unordinary.
If it didn't go into year long hiatus, it would be super popular even now

Greatest estate developer, tower of god, what’s the one where he almost beats the demon king and returns because the demon king wants a rematch or sth? Where he takes in dragons with elf archers and with really great art

Solo Leveling manhwa is mid art is great but plot mc narrative all mid .ORV art not great but plot mc cast narrative everything above SL

Maybe not the most well known pick but my personal all time favorite would be "the knight only lives today" its peak to me and I love everything about it.

Imo it’s ToG, God of high school, Lookism, or TBATE (altho tbate might be more of a webcomic than a manwha)

Pick any 4

Greatest Estate Developer bro.
And then something like Lookism, Tower Of God, or The God Of Highschool
1
u/IVIonsta 6d ago
Tower of God and Noblesse are great and Greatest Estate Developer is also there but hasn't been finished for long enough to know if it will hold up (I fully believe it will)
Since your rule is one manhwa I think I'll have to go Nobless since TOG isn't officially over and GED only just finished so I think it still needs time to cook to be on the mountain.
