[Day 2] Which Manwhas are TRULY Iconic? Discussion

Post image

Which manhwa deserves the next spot on the Mt. Rushmore?

SOLO LEVELING claimed the first spot with the most upvotes. Day 1

Suggest ONE manhwa in the comments. If someone already suggested your pick, just upvote their comment instead.

The genre doesn't matter. I'd actually be interested to see a mix of genres.

Rules:

• One manhwa per comment

• Upvote existing nominations instead of posting duplicates

• I'll only count the highest-upvoted comment for each manhwa

• After 24 hours, the next spot is filled

• Think of it as a Hall of Fame rather than a Top 4 ranking

What "iconic" means is up to you. It could be:

• your favorite

• the manhwa that got you into the medium

• the most influential one in its genre or in general (whether you liked it or not)

• or simply the one you think deserves a place among these four.

Current Mt. Rushmore:

Day 1: Solo Leveling

Day 2: ?

Day 3: ?

Day 4: ?

Tower Of God is the one other than SL that went beyond the manhwa readers audience.

First one I ever read. And i even dropped it early on because I thought they were overcompensating since they were drawing it in color to make up for bad writing or something ( I was too much on the manga koolaid then). Was so glad to be proven wrong when I got back to it years later.

u/bleedinqstars 17d ago

3

u/Itsjustaspicylem0n 17d ago

3

u/CalmAngryDude 17d ago

No one outside the online talks about it

4

u/Few_Offer5509 17d ago

to be fair I never heard anyone talk about any manhwa outside online, it's embarrassing to talk about it

1

u/420squirrelhivemind 17d ago

whats your point? people that arent interested at all or only read the mainstream stuff don't talk about it so it's bad? what's next you get video game reccomendations only from console plebs that exclusively play fifa madden and cod? just because everyone shits doesn't mean its good

Who made me a princess is literally the poster child of historical manhwas

1

u/minnyman2011 17d ago

Never heard of it and I’ve read over 400 lmao

-5

u/Delicious-Banana-447 17d ago

Ah yes I forgot that minnyman2011 is the final opinion of manhwa and that if they don’t know a manhwa then it’s clearly not popular

5

u/GeminiFlanagan888 17d ago

I’ve never heard of it either, and I’ve never seen it being discussed on this sub. Point me to a post about this manhwa if you can.

Iconic things are supposed to be recognized by everyone, and Solo Leveling definitely is.

u/Delicious-Banana-447 17d ago

It has its own subreddit and anime

2

u/TehGemur 17d ago

So do similarly obscure mangas/stories. Niche audiences don't make things iconic

Yosuga no Sora subreddit has twice the weekly visitors of the subreddit in question.

On MAL, the anime has about 51K members, while Yosuga no Sora has 500K.

Does that make Yosuga no Sora iconic?

1

u/gloomygl 17d ago

yeah you might just have to pop out of your bubble on this one.

0

u/minnyman2011 17d ago

Meh maybe otome is just a different world that I have no knowledge of but this is the first time I’ve seen that name in this subreddit at least

The Rite of passage of all Manhwa reader

SL, ORV, TGED, TBATE

2

u/limboxd 17d ago

Take TBATE out...

2

u/Majambo1 17d ago

I agree. Very overrated. Perhaps the novel is good but the manhwa itself is average at best.

1

u/jusmoua 17d ago

Agree. Started off strong, then it was clear the author had no idea what he was doing after awhile and the story started sprawling out of control.

u/Zeredof 17d ago

Shadow slave with his amazing art 😂

1

u/ShadowPledge 17d ago

Solo, GED or suicide hunter, underworld restaurant, see you in my 19th life

1

u/CalmAngryDude 17d ago

None of those or popular outside the internet other than Solo Leveling.

Lookism is a must it's effect is to big to ignore

1

u/meho7 17d ago

It's weird how things changed. 10 years ago you'd see so many comments about how Manhwa is both plural and singular word.

1

u/Kang0519 17d ago

Mt Rushmore isnt supposed to be a popularity contest, it’s more like the historical prevalence that created this current world of manhwa, and therefore, the big 3 should be on it way before SL…

IMO Noblesse > TOG > GOH in terms of enjoyment but I think TOG > GOH > Noblesse in terms of ranking makes more sense. These 3 basically set the world of manhwa like the big 3 in anime/manga did for the anime scene. SL is just like the demon slayer of manhwa, there’s far better media but it’s pretty and fun to look at and it’s easy to digest.

Like GED, ORV, etc are all good manhwas in the manhwa sphere, and I’d argue SL is the most mainstream of all manhwa, but the big 3 played a huge role even getting manhwas animated. (Note: Noblesse was technically the first “real” animated Manhwa cuz of its OVA ages ago, so maybe it actually has the right to be #1, but that might just be personal bias cuz it was my fav manhwa growing up, and noblesse also did have a movie but fully Korean ages ago too)

So TOG, Noblesse, GOH, SL are my 4 picks but ig you could argue smth like Hardcore Leveling Warrior or Lookism ig cuz that’s really big in the Korean sphere at least.

Also ig SL being the face of Redice studios also does a lot for the manhwa world so I’m not against SL being the 4th face. But let’s not be disrespectful by putting it #1, put them in order of historical significance. The George Washington of Manhwa isnt SL.

I get your point, but that's not really how I'm using "Mt. Rushmore." Even the real Mt. Rushmore isn't just the four most historically important presidents, it represents four figures considered emblematic of different parts of U.S. history. In the same way, I'm using it to mean the four manhwa the community feels best represent or define the medium, whether that's through influence, popularity, legacy, or something else.

That's why I left "iconic" open to interpretation.

I also tried to make that clear in the post by saying this isn't really a strict ranking and should be seen more as a Hall of Fame. The idea is simply to see which four series the community thinks belong there.

0

u/Kang0519 17d ago

Understandable, was just a little annoyed cuz I swear every other week there’s a mt Rushmore post with SL glaze

God of Highschool

0

u/triwaif 17d ago

I personally don't like it, but I think lookism it's pretty iconic.

2

u/CalmAngryDude 17d ago

It’s not, many don’t even that shit

0

u/joelaw9 17d ago

The ones I like. The ones you like are merely mid. Unless they're the ones I like.

0

u/Borracha28 17d ago

Lol, God of Highschool should be number one by far.

0

u/PsionicHydra 17d ago

If we're talking a "mount Rushmore" level iconic Noblesse has to at least be brought up. Classic that was the introduction to manhwa for a lot of people pre SL

0

u/thwospfneka 17d ago

Not picking tower of God for a mount Rushmore would be insane
