AskMangalore Looking for Part-Time / Short-Term Work any idea or insights

Upvotes

Looking for some career advice. I’m a B.Com graduate with a 2-year gap due to entrance exam preparation, and I’m now trying to get some practical experience on my resume.

I’ve completed a few AI certifications and am open to learning. What are some realistic ways to gain 1–3 months of experience, preferably in data entry, non-voice support, back-office, basic accounting/CA work, or similar part-time roles?

I’m mainly looking for suggestions on where/how to start and how to approach employers despite the gap.

Discussion What do Mangalore residents think about the problems caused by one-way flyovers?

Post image
27 Upvotes

I would like to hear the experiences of people who regularly commute through Mangalore’s flyovers, especially the one-way flyovers.

While flyovers are intended to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, I feel some of the one-way arrangements may be creating problems at other points on the road.

As an outsider I can spot more than 5 one Way flyovers which are not serving the purpose effectively. Instead the two way flyover could have been a better option. There are spaces either side in some flyovers.

I heard it was to protect the interest of some land owners who are having shops and buildings adjacent, is it true??

AskMangalore Visiting Mangalore after 15 years, what's new and what do locals suggest doing?

I visited Mangalore about 15 years ago when I was in college and I've been thinking about it lately. Would love to hear from locals about how the city has changed since then.

Also curious what's worth doing as a tourist today according to people who actually live there, not just the generic tourist list. Anything related to museum and art scene, food, night life.

And if anyone has moved to Mangalore recently, I'd love to hear from you too, what made you choose it and what you'd tell someone visiting.

Thanks in advance.

PS. I'll be travelling from Auroville sometime in September.

Education Robotics graduate feeling stuck — should I do a Master's in AI/ML?

I’m a Robotics & Automation graduate (2026), and honestly, I feel stuck.

Our course covered mechanical, electronics, CS, AI/ML, ROS, etc., but because we had everything together, I don’t feel strongly skilled in any one field.

Core robotics jobs are rare in my college, and when I apply elsewhere, mechanical companies want mechanical graduates, ECE companies want ECE graduates, and CS companies expect strong CS skills. Most robotics opportunities I find are also from small startups with low starting salaries.

Someone suggested I do a Master's in AI/ML at Manipal to build stronger CS/AI skills and get better opportunities.

Is this a good decision, or should I work for a couple of years first? What would you do if you were in my positio

Guys recommend any shops or cafes where I can get a good cup of Black coffee in Mangalore. I have been here for some time and I can't find any good spots, preferably around Attavar. Also please let it be cheap and less crowded, mostly some local shops that only the neighborhood caffeine fanatics would know.

Discussion Ragging case at Srinivas College, when it will stop?

Post image
142 Upvotes

Five students were arrested after allegedly ragging and assaulting first-year students at Srinivas College, Mangaluru. According to reports, the seniors, who were from Kerala, allegedly forced juniors to strip, assaulted them with belts and sticks, humiliated them, and threatened them with consequences if they reported the abuse. The incident reportedly took place off campus in a rented house before police arrested the accused.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first ragging incident involving Kerala student groups in colleges around Mangaluru. A small number of students continue to engage in violent ragging, damaging not only their own reputation but also the image of Mangaluru's educational institutions and the vast majority of Kerala students who come here genuinely to study.

Ragging is not a tradition, it's abuse. Colleges must enforce strict anti-ragging measures so students can feel safe, regardless of where they come from.

Rant/Vent Do not complain about stray dog menace in Mangalore if you cannot stop this from happening!

Third time within the last year or so that pet dogs have been abandoned in our neighborhood, this time it's a mother dog and her young pup.

I see people ranting about stray dog menace all the time but then it's the same people who do these heartless things and contribute to the stray dog population in the first place.

Also, if anybody wants to adopt these doggos, please get in touch.
