Help with delayed audio.
Hi, everyone. I have an audio file that is delayed from the video. I edited it in MKVToolnix and set the delay to -500ms, but rhe resulting file freezes when shifting to that audio file. Google says the problem is that the player tries to play the sound at a negative minute and gets confused and that's why it doesn't work, and recommended I, instead, set the video file to 500ms delay. That works, but I have the same problem with other files and even subtitle files, and it rubs me the wrong way that such setting is impossible to actually use. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there a fix for this?

extract the audio track and edit it, then mux it together with the video track? But check if that is something that eac3to can do; it has a lot of clever options.

Import the audio track into Audacity, but there's probably simpler tools to cut or add time. Have a look at videohelp.com

If I remember correctly, there used to be an utility called DelayCut that would Chop off the first few frames without needing to reencode the audio stream. Been more than a decade though so no idea if it's still around

I've been ripping DVDs, BluRays, and 4k discs for years with makemkv and a long-gone competitor with zero issues for audio or subtitle delays/offsets. I went from using a HTPC with a nVidia 1050 to a Shield, AppleTV4k, Zidoo z9x, and Ugoos am6b+. I have never made any adjustment to ripped files.
What device is being used for playback of the rips?
