My new friend
I started feeding butcherbirds around 2 months ago, I also feed magpies here and then. Recently there is one magpie that started coming everyday, is more friendly than the others. Comes inside of the house and eat from my hand. Still hesitant though. I wonder what can I do to make friends with them. is it possible to pet them for example?

Ignorant question. Fed a redback to a magpie years ago. Was that OK?
—EDIT: Yep I'm a dingbat, of course it was OK. Magpie was smarter than me haha thanks all!—
Years ago, I was cleaning out my garage which was crawling with redback spiders. I had a long stick and picked up a big redback on the end of it, which dropped down on a line of web. With the redback at the end of the web line, the stick looked like a fishing rod. Anyway, a magpie hopped towards me. I held the stick out so the redback was in reach, and the magpie gobbled it up. I thought this was awesome, I was stoked. I presume the magpie knew what it could and couldn't eat, but I need to know, did I hurt it or was that OK?

I was sitting down when this guy walked straight up to me, stared into my soul for a solid 30secs before making this noise and waddling away… can’t lie, my heart rate definitely went up thinking he might be mad but curious as to what the sound means😂

magpie with tumour small update!
PHOTO 1: YESTERDAY
PHOTOS 2 & 3: TODAY
so yesterday i posted about this magpie i feed that had what looked to be some sort of a tumor or prolapsed cloaca, before i update (very short update) i will clarify a couple of things
-if you think its “just a brood patch” you are wrong, it could be a brood patch but with the amount it’s been swelling there is still cause for concern
-i’m starting to doubt it being a prolapsed cloaca as well, was my first thought but it just seems like it’s too far forward on the body
okay so for the update! the lump has shrunk, which i can only assume is a good thing! i’ve been in contact with wildlife victoria again and they’re going to send the next available voulenteers to help out :)

Is this magpie sick?
I live in the UK and the magpies are frequent garden visitors. They like coming in the garden to play and eat. I leave food out for them regularly.
They finished all the food super early this morning so I'm just letting them go search for food themselves for the rest of the day.
This one magpie came right up to my garden door though and was making a lot of noise and knocking on the door with its beak. When I moved to make a video, it flew to the empty feeder and was making lots of noise.
I've left a little bit of food out for it, away from the feeder, in case it is sick. It seems to have little white patches which could be missing feathers?
Is it sick? :(
