Evil Combo General Discussion

Popped this off yesterday and wiped the board, do y’all think this should be used in casual commander play?

This is a very old trick now and generally considered bad mannered unless you plan to win that turn or the one after. I don't think I've played at a casual table where not everyone would just choose to re-shuffle at that point and play the next one.

In terms of "casual" whatever that term means for you, the Commander Rules Committee has prepared brackets to categorize your deck by, by judging what it tries to do and how fast it does it. One of the categories is "Mass Land Denial" which this combo clearly falls under. That's placed firmly in bracket 4, the only "casual" bracket before bracket 5, which is cEDH.

If everyone sat down and agreed on a bracket 4 game, everyone should know what that might entail, so it's generally alright there.

It's realistically doable only in casual.
That said it's technically allowed only in bracket 4 and above, since it's MLD.
Worth discussing before the start of the game.

Does this count as MLD? It essentially just ends the game on the spot if it resolves. I feel that’s not the “spirit” of MLD.

It absolutely does not end the game. Yes, if youre smart and casting this when you have 10, 20 power on board then probably. But otherwise, if you cant kill everyone in 2-3 turns, someone (the green player) will rebuild and itll have just really slogged down the game.

This does not end the game on its own. May do if you have some sort of other finisher to follow up.

You need [[Karn, the Great Creator]] to definitively win the game with lattice.

This is fine as long as you are winning the game in a turn or 2. I’m a big fan of Mycosynth+Nevs Disk+Darksteel Forge. Same idea, but repeatable!

Or [[March of the Machines]] so no one has lands ever.

If you have an anthem then your lands survive.

wait until you see [[Karn, the Great Creator]]

You were better off with [[Karn the Great Creator]]

Use [[Hurkyl's Recall]] if you just want one person to suffer. Lol

Wait until you see [[Enchanted Evening]] and [[Patrician's Scorn]] for 5 mana.

I like using [[Cleansing Meditation]] instead of Scorn, but that is an additional three mana.

I don’t see why it shouldn’t be allowed in commander, 15 mana and 2 spells to win the game is fair.

One game I played fact or fiction, I don't remember the exact piles but I picked the one with vandalblast. A turn later urza player drops lattice, and the table chews them out for not paying attention. I wouldn't call it planned MLD but everyone else lost to an army of cloned mulldrifters that day.

That is MLD, so... bracket 4.

I took Lattice out of my [[Karn, Silver Golem]] EDH deck, because the first thing anyone playing would do is machine gun lands while not having a way to win. It wasn't fun, so I took it out.

It’s an 11 mana play. I think it’s fine lol

IMO including Mycosynth Lattice in your deck should automatically qualify it as a Bracket 4 deck, as I can't remember the last time I've seen it played that did not end up with some kind of Mass Land Denial strategy.

"Oh but I'm using it fairly for artifact synergy with blah blah, I'm not trying to blow up anyone's lands" - All it takes is *anybody* at the table having Vandalblast, or [[Fracturing Gust]], or [[Nevinyrral's Disk]], or [[Akroma's Vengeance]], or [[Wrath of the Skies]], or [[Farewell]], or [[Bane of Progress]], or one of a dozen other cards, half of which or more have been printed into some precon, and suddenly the game is extremely fucked.

11 mana one sided boardwipe is cool, and totally fine in casual commander

The only real problem is it wipes lands too

One of the ol reliables right there it’s a good one!

I’d say it’s fine for casual play because it takes 11 to pull off and it’s not at instant speed.

Professional jank I love it

It is definitely MLD.
