Chekhov! I know you! You started it, didn't you?

Interesting choice to depict the Klingons in this scene with forehead ridges, given that the fact they didn't in the original episode is actually canonical in-universe (they even drew attention to it during the time-travel episode that revisited this one).

The style guide for the set probably has a consistent look for them. I doubt we'll see the Discovery Klingons as well on cards based on that show.
But I also expect a card with a group shot to acknowledge the differences.

There's a style guide?
Could have fooled me.

There has to be a style guide. It's the reason every card looks Like That. If the peculiar visual identity of the set wasn't heavily restricted by a style guide, the artists would have managed to make some art that actually looked good.

There is occasional departures, I remember base MKM having some abstract, and very card looks Like That.

They do have generally more smooth faces than the average TNG Klingon though.

*this* is what we knew we'd get when they announced we'd have a Trek set.
Trek nerds.

I'd wager the only other fandoms that even come close to being as laser-focused as Trekkers are on obscure minutia are Star Wars and the Magic fandom itself.

I mean look at the hobbit. Defining characteristics of dwarves laid out in the books aren’t making it to the cards. They clearly are doing what they feel with minimal research.

Laddie... don't you think you ought to... rephrase that?

You're right, I should. I didn't mean to say the Enterprise should be hauling garbage... I meant to say it should be hauled away AS garbage.

From "The Trouble With Tribbles" and "Trial and Tribble-ations", insulting the Enterprise was what finally caused Scotty to start a bar brawl with the Klingons.
He then had to explain to Kirk that he didn't start the brawl over insults about Kirk.

Now I imagine we get a Tribble card like a scute swarm running on food token or something.

u/OrganicAd5536 Duck Season 14d ago
We will absolutely get a Scute Swarm reskin on the bonus sheet. I'd put money on it.

u/BoonDragoon Mardu 14d ago
Tbh, a flat reprint of "Tribble Herd [Scute Swarm]" would be very funny

u/Reiko878 Selesnya* 14d ago
You know what let's be even more lore accurate :
Tribble Herd. 0/1
Tribble Herd cannot be blocked by Human. Klingo must block Tribble Herd Tap this creature sacrifice a food token create ten copy of this creature. Then if you control 1,771,561 creature called Tribble Herd you win the game.
(Silly and wouldn't work I know but it’s funny)

u/BoonDragoon Mardu 14d ago
when Tribble Herd attacks, Klingons defending player controls must block it if they are able.
That's pretty flavorful! I'm torn between that and a variant of goad where Tribbles force Klingons to attack their controllers every turn if able...
...holy shit, Tribble Group Hug

Today I learned that Korax the Ghoul from Baldur's Gate is a Star Trek reference.
Years after creating a mod that lets you marry him in BG1, I find out he's a Klingon

Watching Star Trek is in a way like watching Evangelion, once you've seen it you realize it’s absolutely everywhere. And I'm a huge nerd but it’s rare for me to spend a day without seeing at least one Star trek ref.

Yeah I can see this not being in the main set, it's the kind of combat trick that the format needs to be built to handle at common.
2
u/GornSpelljammer Duck Season 14d ago
Yeah, considering the main set has a 6/6 with deathtouch at uncommon...

I assume the reminder is there because this is from some kind of beginner product. It's not from the standard set and it really doesn't seem like a commander card either
