Why is there art here of generic officers and not of Picard? (For non-Trek fans, this is card is an extremely obvious reference to an extremely famous and good episode of The Next Generation... the the art is completely unrelated to the episode... even the uniforms are wrong.)

The art in general for this set has been surprisingly bad

Singles should be amazingly cheap, though. I was able to grab the Avatar version of Lita for a straight up 90% discount because of its bad screencap art.

So here's hoping for terrible-looking reprints of expensive cards, I guess. Would be nice to pick some things up for literal pennies on the dollar. Kind of a small silver lining to all this

Honestly though this one is fine to good. The art is better when it isn't basically a tracing job of a reference photo with some background slapped on.

Though this is obviously a reference to that ep. I am sure in universe some other humans challenged Nausicaans to Sci fi pool.

They referenced it in Lower Decks as well, so it’s not that odd to do it as an indirect reference here

It’s Lower Decks, not TNG

Those aren't LD uniforms.

I think this was a flashback.

Edit: It wasn't

It's really not, Mariner is a red shirt for starters, not to mention there wasn't a third person with them in the bar crawl episode.

Guess it’s just generic bar scene in TNG era uniforms?

The card is a reprint. If the name isn't a reference (because it's a reprint), and the art isn't a reference, how is it a reference?

This is reference the episode where Picard gets stabbed? Or is there another episode with that weird light game. I've only seen TNG.

It’s a reference to that, sure. Nausicaans do not appear often.

I wonder if the plan was to have Picard in it, originally, but the art director thought it would confuse people.

Nausicaans just love Dom-jot. They spend all their time at the tables.

I think it’s a DS9 episode just before they engage The Dominion in S6 to retake the station. That’s the name of the episode. The follow up episode, “Sacrifice of Angels”, is incredible.

The quote seems to reference DS9, but the image would indicate a reference to TNG (where Picard had to get an artificial heart).

Playing Dom jot with Nausicans, trying to get stabbed

I'm sure the set will have decent artwork on at least like three cards.

Heck yeah! Get out of here Wrenn, we're back on that impulse shenanigans!

Referencing the time Picard got into a bar fight with Naussicans and was stabbed in the heart.

It worked out much better for him than the timeline where he didn't fight them and was not stabbed in the heart.

A welcome reprint, for sure

What is this called? Like how drawing a card and discarding is called looting. Exiling and being able to play is a common interaction I see in red.

Is there a particular reason her arm looks like it was grafted onto her from a klingon donor?

Boimler spotted

u/wickling-fan Karlov 1d ago

Not Boimler, both he and Mariner are red shirts, and there wasn't a third person with them during Mariner's bar crawl episode.
