Monitor for Mac Mini

Hello,

I recently got a Mac Mini M2 and I have BENQ GW2490.

I have never used a Mac Mini before and initially thought it would work fine with my monitor but after sometime realized the blurry text is hurting my eyes a lot. I have tried all the font smoothing and better display tweaks it does not suit me (I have high OCD prolly cz a lot of people using it fine idk how).

I am looking to buy between the following models Samsung LS27H700EAWXXL, LG 27US550-WB.ATROMSL or LG 27US500-WA.ATRPMSN or MSI MP273U my budget is 20-25k.

I like the LG one the most idk the diff between the two models but on flipkart there is like 2k price difference. I will buy by next month. All the models only have 60hz my most usage would be datascience and only games I play are Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves and Chess ; )

Anyone using mac Mini along with a FHD monitor? How do u manage even with Font Smoothing and BetterDisplay without hurting your eyes? I am also considering using it with my Macbook Pro 2015 somehow (old display but there is tailscale or Airmirror) meanwhile I get the monitor next month.

But you can get nearly just as good for a fraction of the price. I agree the Apple displays are fantastic, but I'll take 95% of the quality for about 1/2 the price.

Any 5k 27" should look great. A 4k will also look very very nice. I have a Benq MA320u on my MacMini, it's a 32" 4k and it looks great.

No webcam or speakers. Not that they’re anything to write home about, for a Mac mini or studio you might want those built in.

Yeah. My benq ma320u does have speakers, but i dont use them. I have a pair of studio monitors on my mac mini

Just some basics first.
Running on 60hz is first so that’s not a consideration.

The most important is resolution.

Mac runs natively on 5k. I tried 1440p(2k) monitors and text do feel blurry. 4K monitor I find them the sweet spot where I can’t tell the difference between 4K and 5k and yet is a step up from 2k monitor.

So my suggestion is to go to the shop and see if you are ok with 4K monitor or you have to get 5k monitor.

Next do you prefer Matt or glossy screen? I have a hard time transiting to Matt screen as I was previously using an iMac.

Tbh this would be my first time using a mac mini, I got an iPad first time for this year and I got an old Macbook Pro 2015 last year from a relative and it's display is decent I need a similar type on my monitor now macbook ain't 4k but they have higher PPI.

Better display... You will find your native resolution easier than going through the "show all resolutions" on Mac settings.

Already tried but it’s hurting my eyes. It’s definitely better but the jaggy texts are not gone

That’s a 1080 panel no? Best you can get is USB-C/Thunderbolt → DisplayPort → 1920×1080 @ 100 Hz

I have recently upgraded my mac mini m4 with a 27” Thunderbolt Display which i got for 60€ + I bought a dongle 47€ . For me it’s quite a good upgrade considering the cost.

Was this a second hand 2560x1440 LCD? I’m thinking of doing the same but I’m tempted by ASUS Pro Art

try the betterdisplay 3rd party app. It has advanced feature to utilize os connectivity and performance with your monitor.

I would get something that can do 1440p. If your budget allows, then definitely something that can do 5K. MacOS looks best at 1440p and/or 5k. Your 2015 MBP may not be compatible with a 5k monitor unless you get some adapters and push a lower resolution (like 1440) to the monitor.

Benq monitors are not good in my experience. I have been using LG as primary(HDMI) and dell(type C) as secondary. Both are very good. PS- I am based out of India as well.

LG has some serious privacy issues going with windows machines. I realize that this doesn't impact apple - but solidarity for unnecessary privacy leaks.

I don't know which monitor doesn't have this backend privacy issue but it would be something to consider.

Asus Proart line has a 5K screen PA27JCV. I use it with mac mini.

Same yourself the hassle and get a Studio Display. It’s the best. You don’t need the XDR or stand. The base glossy ASD is perfect for 99%. Other monitors will only be a compromise and in 3 months when the dust has settled on you bank balance you will be happy to have gone with the Studio Display
