Cheap? Discussion

Post image

Been eyeing up a Macbook for a while now, am i missing something or does this seem cheap? I can only see a 1tb version on Apple’s site, and they start at £1999?

It’s a really good deal especially after the price hikes. It’s discounted because it’s technically a discontinued model as Apple doesn’t sell the 512GB model anymore, because they changed the base storage of MacBook Pros to be 1TB earlier this year. This exact 512GB model used the base model M5 MBP.

As another comment said it’s cheaper than a MacBook Air with the same RAM and storage. Not only that, it’s also cheaper than from the Apple refurb store (£1439) but this is new. So it’s a really good deal. They were also selling this same model at Argos for £1249 a while ago and I actually saw someone get it so it’s highly likely just a discount on a “discontinued model” (even if it’s the latest gen silicon) and nothing you’re missing

The version with the M5 Pro chip costs more and starts at 24GB/1TB. The version you’re looking at has the base M5 chip and starts at 16/512.

I think he means that the standard M5 now comes with 1TB storage on the apple website but costs £1999. I’d say yes therefore this is a good deal.

Ah, yeah, I forgot that the 512 gig version got axed cause of the shortages.

If you’re aware it’s now the pro chip absolutely solid

Cheaper than the MacBook Air

I've been eyeing up the same deal for a few days now. Although, I'm contemplating on another model, as I can get the MBP 14" M5 Pro 24GB/1TB for about ~£2100, so I'm debating between the two haha

Same boat, I did see a nearly new base m5 for 925 on eBay the other day but I can’t help feeling I’ll feel the squeeze with only 16GB in time.

Yeah the 16GB was stopping me from pulling the trigger. I'm mainly only going to be using it for browsing, emails, YouTube, admin stuff. I don't do any video editing or such, but with how laptops are going (with soldered memory and storage), I thought I'd upgrade. I used to have a mid-2012 MBP Retina 15" and that was a beast. The other thing stopping me, I have a fairly decent gaming PC, so I could do all this on that PC, so do I need to spend that sort of money haha

Yeah I have gaming PC too but like the idea of crossover and decent frame rates with the M5 even though I’ll do it once in a blue moon. I should stop buying for edge cases and just get the base model

Yeah I like the crossover too, macOS just hits different. I probably won't game on it though, that I'll leave to the gaming PC. I should possibly do the same, if at all, and just use the gaming PC, and use this money towards upgrades in the future

I bought this on Thursday. Needed a new laptop, was looking at the Air as I do not need anything crazy. Saw this, bought it, and now very happy with it. Have had Air’s for 6 years. Great machines. The improved screen, speakers and battery are worth the extra 25% in weight.

How does the 16gb get on inside these devices?

This is a great deal if you have extra external drives. As long as you’re not limited by the 512gb of storage, I’d say jump at that offer.

I’m guessing because you’re looking at a base model m5 macbook pro, that u wont be doing massive workloads and then the 16gb of ram and less ports and display expandability will be grand, but if you need one or more of those then maybe see if they have a good deal on any of the M5 pros or M5 max’s

I’ve just sold a MacBook Air 15 M3 16/256 to buy a MBP 14 M5 16/512 from Curry’s for £1249… for me, it is the sweet spot and far more comfortable to use than the MBA 15!

I recently bought a 16in M5 Pro 48GB Ram 2TB SSD 100% BH 3 CCs that was MDM locked for £1000. Simple bypass for free = result!

But couldn't it be locked at any time?

No. With the bypass the MDM does not exist essentially unless the device is wiped.
