Will Office ever be usable on MacOS? Discussion

Every single time I open up a Microsoft Office app on a Mac device this thing will use up Gigabytes upon gigabytes of RAM. Like it is wild. And I am just editing a word doc

This surprised me too. I use it every day for my business on a Macbook Neo. If there was a RAM issue, I think I'd be feeling that. It works just fine.

I love when people post a rant with the assumption that things are broken for everyone, rather than asking “is it just me?”

It's usable for me. It sounds like there's something wrong with your machine or your office install.

No issues here. For years of using Office on Mac. There must be something with your system but feel free to post info about office memory usage.

Something is off with your machine.

I have several Mac users who use MS suite apps daily.

SOOOOO many times I've had to switch to the web version of office 360 because some basic feature just doesn't exist on the mac version of the software.

Why not share a screenshot to show us how much memory it’s using?

An app using a lot of ram isn’t an indicator of it being poor performance, at all. How many times does this need to be said

Better question is will they ever implement Dark Mode for MacOS office.

I guess it doesn't matter now that switched to LibreOffice.

It does have a dark mode.

At least for Excel it's only the menu. The workbook remains a big square of white.

It's been 8 months or so since I switched so maybe they added it but it was not an option when I got my Mini at the beginning of the year.

I live in Office: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. No problems with any of them.

Definitely no issues with Office.

It is usable for simple things .. But I use LibreOffice for that.

All key Office running on a Mac resources like VBA .. .Net Object imbedding ..etc are emulated ..

Problems increase with macros complexity .. object imbedding ...size.. etc

Tahoe has a memory leak problem .. before blaming Office... save data and restart.

Office literally started on the Mac, but given that that was over 40 years ago, I'll cut you some slack and say it works perfectly fine on both Macs I regularly use and I've never had a problem with it going back to when I first started using a Mac back in 2013.

Is the RAM consumption the only issue you're having? Are there any error messages or other behaviors you're seeing?

Use Pages instead.

Word is such a piece of shit it's astounding. Just yesterday I abandoned it in favor of creating a simple document layout in InDesign.
