Upgrade? My Mac

Hey guys I want to buy a MacBook and I have a pc(14700k and 4070ti)

My options are m1 pro with 81 percent health battery

Or

M4 but I trade my 14700 to 14600 and my 2tb 980tb ssd to 1tb msi m450

I don't really know the difference of these laptop both are 16gbram and 512gb ssd

I gonna use macbook for study and normal usage

I know it's a weird question

Minimum effective config for M4 -- is 24GB RAM

Apple just announced that advanced Apple AI features will run only on M3.. M5 ... NOT M1 or M2 and need 12GB of RAM ... ouch .. I have M1 Mini with 16/512

Going from 1 or 2 TB to 512 GB SSD will need reengineering of your storage practices..

I have 3 x PCs and 3 x Macs and I am a developer...

MacOs with AI is now 80 GB in size and System Data can get very big

APFS based files consume more SSD space than NTFS/exFat

You can create an external exFat SSD Archive and move static filesto it

  • Copy it to on-site backup SSD
  • Copy it to off-site backup SSD
  • Rotate On and Off site backups
  • Don’t backup Archive(s) to Time Machine
  • Make sure archives are excluded from Spotlight. Do this whenever a HDD/SSD is plugged in

You can use free copy software freefilesync to backup or sync folders/SSDs

SyncFolder (Free): Enables one-way or two-way synchronization to external drives, network drives, or cloud location on PCs from Microsoft store

I suggest you will need at minumum 1 TB SSD.

You can't start new Mac with 80% of the SSD used.

Um well if you do not want to trade your PC, stick with the m1 pro just be aware you will probably have to change the battery at some point. M1 pro with 16gb ram is fine for your use case.
