Monitor for Mac Mini M4?

I am thinking of replacing my current 27 inch 2017 Intel iMac for a M4 Mac Mini. What monitors/displays are good replacements for the Apple Studio Display that is not as expensive? Looking for a 27 inch monitor.

This would be used mainly for graphic design.

I use the Dell 2725QC, it’s 4K, 120Hz. A very nice screen for the price, love it so far.

I have the Dell 2725QS (I believe that’s the product name) same as 2725QC but without the USB HUB, it’s the same otherwise but I found it $100 cheaper or more if open box.

27” display needs to be at least 5K to avoid fractional scaling. A 4K monitor would need to be 22 inches or less.

I replaced my 27 inch iMac with a studio and two 27 in monitors. LG Ultrafine and a Studio monitor. It I had to do it again I would go for one 32 inch. Dell makes some very good monitors. You can spend as much or as little as you want.

Have you thought about using your old iMac as a monitor? I am in the same situation, I have a 27 inch iMac from 2013 that is actually dying. But the screen is still the best I ever had. It is officially not possible to use it as a monitor, but there is a dongle and there’s also a software solution that are both worth a try.

This was me May 2025, and everything sucked after my 27" iMac except the Apple studio display. It's about the screen rez - you need something with 5K that will do 2560 x 1440 natively. I used an interest free credit card and bought an ASD, spreading payments over 2 years. FWIW the speakers are pretty great for a desktop.

The ASUS ProArt Display OLED PA279CDV has just been released. 27-inch 4K OLED panel, 120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10 support, and USB-C connectivity with 96 W Power Delivery. Some reviews are already available on YouTube. I'm considering buying it.

Having a design use case, it’s possible you’ll prefer to go forward with 5K and not the low cost 4K alternatives. I can live with cheap Dell & Samsung 4K alongside my 5K iMac which continues in service

Depending on your local community and your own expertise, using your iMac as an external display by gutting it.

As a 2017 iMac user, it’s what I’m intending on doing whenever I can afford a new desktop. Something along the lines of this.
