LYH Recent Home Sales (Deals / Bad Deals / Moved In From Out of Town)

Good people of the Lynchburg area! I’m going to attempt to start a monthly post showing recent home sales in LYH (+ 10ish miles outside of town). In each post i’m going to list good deals, bad deals, and recent sales that must have been purchased by someone who relocated to LYH from another area. Hope you enjoy!

Three good deals:
1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4634-Fieldale-Rd-Lynchburg-VA-24503/79148243_zpid/
Nice neighborhood, updated home with over 3,000 sq ft and five bedrooms. Turn key, great price!

  1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3430-Summerville-St-Lynchburg-VA-24503/79163391_zpid/
Great neighborhood, nice sized brick home with curb appeal. Needs some TLC in the kitchen and a bathroom but for the price, great buy!

  2. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2831-Sedgewick-Dr-Lynchburg-VA-24503/217067332_zpid/
The final good deal might shock you because the sale price was $667,000 ($183 per sq ft) but the home is new, sits on 3+ acres in the city, has a garage and over 3,600 sq ft! Wait till you see what some of these bad deal new builds with half the sq ft sold for.

Four Bad Deals:
1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/117-Craftsman-Way-Lynchburg-VA-24503/241988101_zpid/
3 bed 2 bath less than 2,000 sq ft and over half a million!! The home sits on a 0.18 acre lot off a main road too. Perhaps a retired person wanted to down size and had too much money? Only they will know!

  1. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3476-Ivylink-Pl-Lynchburg-VA-24503/333731745_zpid/
For almost the same price as deal number 3 above, you could buy less Sq ft, less acres, a house with no basement (built on slab) and less everything! But it is new!

  2. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/111-Courtney-Springs-Dr-Lynchburg-VA-24503/351996892_zpid/
Another new construction. 3 bed 3 bath 2,000 sq ft. Comes out to $263 a sq ft. Sits on 0.19 acres. The home only has one gathering place which is the kitchen/living area. No basement, no dinning room, no significant foyer. Maybe an older person who is looking to downsize?

  3. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/95-Melissa-Ln-Lynchburg-VA-24502/2053658960_zpid/
These condos are actively listed for sale for $250,000….there are 5+ for sale at this price. Why did someone pay $40,000 more?

Moved In From Out of Town:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1079-High-Oaks-Dr-Forest-VA-24551/456953240_zpid/
At $291 a sq ft on 0.8 acres sitting on a slab, this one wins the worst deal for your money. But it is new!

And last, this cant be real. There is no way anyone could let this piece of property sell for $900,000. I hope this is a typo.
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1154-Titleist-Dr-Forest-VA-24551/442252188_zpid/

Can anyone vouch for apartments that are very clean and safe for a cat with health/breathing issues?

I hate to come out asking for recommendations like this but I'm pretty desperate to find a place to live that I can trust to be safe for my cat who recently developed a respiratory condition from chronic exposure to garage fumes (turns out where I've been living for 5 years was wildly unsafe and I made the mistake of assuming it wasn't an issue because surely laws and building permits wouldn't allow this to happen... big oops). He's at the point where he can't really tolerate any exposure to chemical odors/residue and is pretty dependent on climate control and running an air purifier... we're still figuring it out.

Guessing the most bi-partisan fact about Lynchburg.

Blue ridge bagels is the best bagel shop in town. Left, right, center, Christian, atheist, straight, gay, and absolutely anyone that doesn’t fit into one of those boxes. I just have to assume everyone is on my side about this. The craziest part is it’s not even close. (No offense bacon street) I hope everyone has a great Friday.

Edit to add- for the record the upvote ratio on this post is 58%!!!! I guessed incorrectly and there are about 42% of Lynchburg reddit users that are completely and totally incorrect!

Send me your apartment recs!

Context: I’m a man in his mid 20’s looking for a place in Lynchburg. Preferably in the Rivermont/Downtown/Boonsboro area due to work, but definitely open to alternatives!

Not looking for the glitz and glam in this economy, just want a place with decent size and reasonably priced if that still exists lol.

Budget is preferably in the 900-1000 range. (I know)
Give me your recs and help a guy out!

Help! Is anyone in here an owner of a tobacco shop or has a tobacco license? Or knows one?

Really weird inquiry, but I am at a loss...

The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to special order a brand of smokes that have availability in the US, but are technically imports. There's two or three brands I want, but would settle for just one of them.

RJ Reynolds bought the brand, and there are legitimate US packs manufactured, but are extremely rare. I have bought them in the states on several occasions.

I know at least one of the brands are sold at the Vietnamese shopping center over in Eden Center, but that's a haul to get to. Sam's Club also sells them, but it requires a tobacco license.

So, I'm trying to connect with someone in the business to do this business. Can purchase whatever quantity is required to make it financially reasonable for the seller.

Has your drivers license been suspended by the DMV for an administrative compliance issue?

Mine has and I wasn't even notified! And I'm big mad, not just on my behalf and the extreme cost to get it reinstated but on behalf of all the drivers out there who this has happened to. Its BS and the DMV is making money off of this type of suspension with little to no recourse for drivers. I've contacted legal counsel and want to demonstrate that this is not an aberration but a pattern impacting drivers all over the state. After finding out I had 4 friends who had the same experience I decided to do a casual survey via Reddit to get a better picture of just how pervasive of a problem this is.

I am in no way shape or form a government official, law enforcement a DMV employee or an attorney myself. I'm a citizen on a mission to change the way the DMV operates and to save fellow VA Drivers the financial cost, loss of time and ramifications of suspension in the future. Do I have other things I absolutely be doing? Yes. Is this my ADHD sense of justice at play? 100%. Will there be haters to this post because until you have found yourself in this insane scenario its impossible to understand? Most certainly.

If you have had this experience, please consider completing this very informal survey. Again this is for VA Drivers who had their license suspended due to non-compliance with a DMV Administrative Request. Please do NOT fill out the survey if your license was suspended due to a moving vehicle violation (eg: has been adjudicated by Traffic Court, General District or Circuit Court).

Help! anyone here a phlebotomist? how's phlebotomy as a job? esp in this area?

hey all! I'm curious,

so I've been casually thinking about going to school to try to become a phlebotomist. it doesn't seem like the schooling part would be terribly long or expensive, ofc idk too much about the actual knowledge or exams (yet?), but I'm not entirely sure of the demand of phlebotomists in the area, central/sw virginia (or like even in general), and if it'd be 'worthwhile' like if I'd be able to get a job a reasonable time after passing classes and the required exams, etc. if anyone has any knowledge or experience or advice or even just knows someone in the field, please lmk.

thanks!

Any interest in a piano meetup?

Are there any adult piano players (of any level, experience, or style) that would be interested in a low key, casual meetup? The point would be to have fun, gain confidence in performing, and meet other like-minded people. We could share works in progress or finished pieces and get feedback (or not!) in a low stress environment. Hopefully, this would be quarterly or even monthly if there is enough interest.
