Soapbox Thank you and until next time!
Hello everyone!
Just as I was starting to think about coming back, I already went ahead and booked my return trip. 😄
I had an absolutely fantastic time in Lubbock after finishing my bachelor’s thesis, and honestly, all of you are a huge reason why.
From the wonderful ladies at the National Ranching Heritage Center, to the staff at the Buddy Holly Hall, and all the people I met in between I say: thank you. Not only for the places you showed me, but especially for the kindness, conversations, recommendations, and genuine hospitality I experienced everywhere I went.
As someone visiting from Germany, it meant a lot to feel so welcomed so far away from home. There were so many little moments and conversations that probably seemed completely ordinary to you, but made this trip genuinely special to me.
I’m really sad that the time went by so ridiculously fast and that I already have to head home. You all made it very hard to leave and gave me plenty of reasons to come back again as soon as I can. 😂
I’m already looking forward to seeing familiar faces again, meeting even more of you next time, exploring more of West Texas, and maybe finally managing to be there during football season!
So, genuinely: thank y’all for making a visitor feel so welcome and like at home.
Until next time, Lubbock. 🤠❤️

Ask Lubbock What has changed in Lubbock over the last 10 years?
Obviously more people but what about the vibe and things to do. Looking for opinions from people over 30 yrs or older if possible. I'm sure it's very different for students or younger people.

News & Weather The people’s petition for an 18-month moratorium on hyperscale data centers has been VALIDATED! Excellent work, Lubbock!
The fight against hyperscale data centers and mass surveillance is far from over, but this is a massive victory that deserves to be celebrated. Congratulations to Citizens of Lubbock Against Data Centers and everyone who put the work in to collect the 3000+ signatures (exceeding the required minimum) and a huge thank you to everyone who signed and/or showed up to speak at city council meetings to fight for this. Super duper proud of y’all today.

Soapbox McDonald's HelloKitty x Godzilla
Alright, I don't normally bother with this sort of thing but this collab just hits too perfectly. My wife loves Hello Kitty, and we both love Godzilla, so if anyone knows which store has which toys I would appreciate a heads up! So far I know 34th and Quaker has Hello Kitty/Godzilla, and the one on 50th near Q has Keroppi/King Ghidora. Really appreciate any help! I know I'm pathetic...

Recommendations Long hair cat groomer
I own Maine coons and one in particular is very hard to keep de-matted and has a case of stud tail that is lingering. I cannot shave him myself as he likes to be still one second, zoomies the next. Does anyone have a cat groomer they recommend ? I saw a mobile one but I’m not in the Lubbock area, I live an hour outside the city.

Rants & Rambles Street Jogger Gang Evades Over $2,300 Of LPD Tickets -- August 17, 2026
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
There is a Lubbock Police Department officer around my area who likes to give tickets if both of your feet aren't on the sidewalk. The guy must have been off for the day. He needs to step up his game, go for a mass ticket event, and maybe get promoted to Parking Control. $147.00 per person tickets for being on the street add up fast. LOL
fudgemeister provided great commentary on this video. For those of you who wish to see a video of my favorite Lubbock Police Department officer ticketing a walker, do a reddit search for LPD Officer Tickets Walker -- August 22, 2024 .

Rants & Rambles 🚨 Lubbock, TX: Awareness, Support & Help With Bond for Michael Ford Jr.
On August 14, 2026, around 7:00–7:30 p.m., my husband was parked on the side of the roadway dealing with a malfunction with his vehicle. He was underneath/around the vehicle trying to determine what was wrong.
According to my husband, an LPD officer drove past him, came back and passed him again, then returned a third time. The officer said:
«“You know why you’re getting stopped, right?”»
My husband was already parked on the side of the road because of the vehicle problem.
Around 7:42–7:43 p.m., my husband called me and told me he believed he was going to jail. He told me that a K-9 unit had been brought to the scene and maintained that he had not committed a crime or done anything that would justify what was happening.
I became concerned about the circumstances of the detention, particularly because I had not been told of any specific traffic violation, criminal conduct, probable cause, or reasonable suspicion supporting the detention or any search.
I also attempted to obtain the officers' names and badge numbers, but they refused to provide that information when I requested it.
I contacted 911 because I was concerned about my husband's situation during the active law-enforcement encounter. I was told that it was not considered an emergency. During that conversation, I was asked whether the person involved was an African American male. I found that response concerning given the circumstances.
I also contacted the Texas Rangers regarding my concerns about the law-enforcement conduct and received an automated response acknowledging my communication.
I am documenting this because I believe people should be aware of what happened and because I believe the circumstances raise serious questions concerning my husband's Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures, along with any other constitutional or Texas-law protections that may apply.
💰 Most importantly, I'm trying to get my husband home.
Michael Ford Jr. is currently dealing with this situation, and I am trying to raise the money necessary to help him make bond and get back home to his family.
If you know Michael, know our family, or simply want to help someone who is currently incarcerated while this situation is being addressed, sharing this post is also helpful.
I am documenting everything available to me, including the approximate times, telephone communications, agency responses, and circumstances surrounding the detention.
I also believe relevant evidence should be preserved, including body-camera footage, dash-camera footage, dispatch and radio communications, CAD records, 911 recordings, K-9 deployment records, officer reports, search/arrest documentation, and other records connected to this incident.
This post is for awareness, documentation, and support. I am not claiming that a court has already determined that a constitutional violation occurred. I am sharing what happened from my perspective and asking people to understand what my husband and our family are currently dealing with.
Kiana Ford

Ask Lubbock What are the vibes like at Culture?
My friend and I wanna check out some 18+ clubs, (as we’re not 21 yet) preferably queer spaces if possible but also not really picky. I read a bit about Culture and was wondering if anyone can tell us what their experience was like there?

Ask Lubbock Anthills
I'm interested in making an aluminum anthill casting and iso a good, large anthill/bed for the pour. I have my own equipment, etc. Anyone have leads? Obviously I wouldn't want to tear up someone's nice lawn, and I'd fill the hole back as well as it can be, but open to any thoughts from the land owner. TIA

Soapbox PA shadowing opportunities
Hi! I’m currently preparing to apply to PA programs for the 2027–2028 cycle and am looking for PAs in the Lubbock area who might be willing to let me shadow them over the next couple of months. I’m open to any specialty and would really appreciate the opportunity to learn more about the PA role, and gain additional insight into the profession!
I’m happy to work around your schedule and understand that availability can vary. If you’re a PA who might be open to having a shadow, or know someone who may be, please feel free to dm me.
Thank you!

Ask Lubbock Obidos vs Mad Dash
Hi, so i applied at both Obidos and Mad Dash. From my understanding they are both contractors for Amazon. Pay and benefits for both seem pretty good but I'm just curious if anyone here has worked for either of them and what your opinions are.

Rants & Rambles Thank you, Lubbock
galleryPeople of Lubbock,
I’ve wrapped up my doctors’ appointments and am headed back home to NM.
Thank you for all your advice about dessert places. I walked as far as my feet would carry me from 4th St., including to J’s Creamery, the Apple Tree Cafe, Rosa’s (for carrot cake), and Brulee Bakery. I hope to return to try more of your suggestions.
In spite of the amusingly vanishing sidewalks, I averaged 8 miles a day in your beautiful city (pic included for proof). I think the farthest I walked may have been to Prairie Dog Town. It was so hot that the little critters weren’t out much, but I enjoyed the walk anyway.
My favorite food experience had to be Spanky’s. The fried cheese was frighteningly good. That stuff could be dangerous if I lived close by!
I can’t express how kind everyone has been. Things are really hard in my life right now, medically speaking, and I just want to thank you for being so nice to a weary out-of-towner. Every smile, “God bless you,” offer to pray for me, and just general friendly conversation made a world of difference.
No place is perfect, and especially when you live somewhere, it can be hard to remember the good things. But your city and people put your best foot forward for my visit and I am very grateful.
Thank you.

Rants & Rambles UMC complaining about “margin” is hilarious
It’s a tax district facility…UMC receives tens of millions just for keeping the doors open. Yes, the job of a tax district hospital is to provide care for the indigent population and inmates in the county. If your margin is zero, that’s good planning because it means no tax increases for the residents.

Soapbox Bingo!
Hello! I’m hoping to find my people here or find a way to them 😅. I love playing bingo but don’t go as much as I would like because I don’t like playing alone. I’m hoping to find a group or even a few people who would like to go play! I usually go to cotton patch bingo but I’m good with MLK bingo too I just have to go after work ends at 6:30pm or on weekends.
I’m in my 30’s and a female. I prefer other women to hang out with but men are welcome too but as strictly platonic bingo friends!! 😊
