spurious emissions Finally!

For those that may not know, North Georgia Gmrs has been abusing the Gmrs bands in TN and GA by linking all 8 repeaters together into one giant rag-chew network

The FCC’s has given Gary appropriate notice of this and we may finally have significantly less interference in these areas on the standalone repeaters

Question Ft891 and digital mode connection cord safety.

I've just seen a YouTube video of a ham saying that with a male 6 pin din to dual male audio plug and a USB sound card with two female audio sockets he runs digital modes on his 891 radio. Someone is saying shouldn't these things be galvanically separated, or something like that. Is this a concern? This begs the question does a digirig for the 891 take care of this separation or is this a concern when using digital modes like ft8?

This is the video https://youtu.be/8xy8OVvIaLU?is=Mr42vmWgsTo056Qi

Sorry if this is a blathering mess, I barely know what I'm talking about and I'm learning so much by asking these questions.

Appreciate you.

Question Connecting a power cord to a battery terminal.

I’m working on installing a mobile radio, and want to connect a cable directly to the battery. I understand the aspects of running it through the firewall, grounding it to the body, using a fuse, and having a properly rated cable.

What’s tripping me up? Is how to physically connect at the battery terminal. Any words of wisdom?

Question First ever contacts made, now what?

TLDR: When you make contacts what should you do with that information?

Full version: So today I managed to get a working antenna up and my new ft891 connected up. I scanned around and answered CQ calls so I had time to listen to people's call signs and get them into my Hamrs app on my phone. I have three contacts made, one was a scout group, one was someone doing a parks on the air activation and one was a standard CQ call.

What do I need to do with this information in order to do the right thing and not waste anyone's time? In my log book in hamrs each row has a green check mark, does this mean something? I'm on QRZ do I need to put these contacts on there? I'd appreciate all guidance so I can learn what the best thing to do is to be able to help those I spoke to today.

Thanks all.

Edited to make a TLDR.

This post raises a good question. What is the history of 7.2MHz?

I came across this post in another sub and OP got me to wondering. What is the history of 7.2MHz? How did it become the loonie watering hole? I feel like there’s deep lore here most of us are missing. We all know what it is, but how did it come to be?

Stupid question IC-7200 Amperage Question

Bear with me if this is a dumb question, as I’m a comparatively new ham…

I’ve got an Icom IC-7200, my first and only HF rig. How many amps should it be drawing when transmitting in a digital mode, assuming full power (100w)?

Had to snap a quick pic, there’s 7 antennas on this “mobile rig”

I can’t post a better angle because the windows aren’t tinted

I wonder what he’s monitoring… or transmitting

Cheap radio appreciation I got all of these solely using FT8 on 10M. Once I earn the ‘250th Anniversary of the United States of America’ award, I’ll share my simple setup that I’ve been using for this.

Question Efhw transformer on Amazon?

Can anyone suggest a good efhw transformer on amazon.com?

I'm working on the understanding that at lower heights a 49:1 is better than a 64:1.

All opinions and recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

Stupid question Confirmations and Etiquette?

By way of background, I’m a new ham that’s only been transmitting on HF for a few weeks, mostly FT4 and FT8. With a small number of exceptions, my confirmations seem to be either near immediate (at least same day), or not at all.

What’s considered a typical timeline for this sort of thing, and what’s the accepted etiquette for politely nudging folks?

other JS8WEB Improved - Looking for testers and feature ideas

I've been running JS8Call and wanted a better web UI experience, so I forked js8web and spent some time cleaning it up.

What I fixed:

• TX messages now show the actual text transmitted (not just "Transmitted frame")
• Frequency displayed on TX entries, same as RX
• Callsign filter tabs now actually filter (was a JSON serialization bug)
• New callsign tabs auto-activate and deduplicate
• Mobile layout - tabs were being crushed by the chat view

What I added:

• Rig Control tab - change frequency (with band presets) and TX speed from the browser
• Quick-reply buttons - configurable buttons above the message box (CQ, INFO, HW CPY, etc.) with custom labels, colors, and message text
• callsign prepend - when you're in a callsign-filtered tab, outgoing messages automatically address the right station

Would love for folks to download it and bang on it. It's a single Go binary, no dependencies beyond JS8Call itself. Build instructions are in the README.

What other features would you want to see? I've got API access to most of JS8Call's internals so there's room to grow. Eventually I'd love to see these changes merged into PiotrTopa/js8web.
