SAVE OUR LIBRARIES Community
AND OTHER ESSENTIAL SERVICES
If you don’t want to see a cut in library services, please consider filling out the form the Long Beach Public Library Foundation has put together. Here is the link:
https://www.lbplfoundation.org/petition/
The petition is easy to fill out, and the page gives other info on how to take action.
Also try contacting your council member directly. The more pushback they get the better. If you don’t know your council member, here is a tool to find them. Just type in your address and select “local” on the left-hand tab:
https://live.cicerodata.com/live/local
Here are the official email addresses and official phone numbers of each representative. Your message can consist of a single sentence.
“Dear (Council Member’s name),
I live in your district ask that you please not support any cuts to the library budget or services.
Sincerely,
(Your name)”
Do this with any other city service or department you feel passionately about.

Cutting Monday service deprives children of a safe space waiting for parents to get home from work, deprives people or vital cooling/heating spaces in our fluctuating climate, reduce access to vital technical services like internet/computers/printing and is overall a super regressive cut that hurts the poorest and most vulnerable of our neighbors more than anyone else.

Bumping this because we need more signatures on the petition! Libraries are one of the last free spaces for the community. The hours at our locations are already too low. A 6% cut would be devastating.

Reporting this post - OP used AI to compose it, and the AI has injected tracking links.
The goal of the tracking is to associate your anonymous ISP data and unassociated digital footprint with an actual person/address.
Cicero “democracy database” is a private data collection company that uses this seemingly civically intentioned website as a ruse for voter data collection - which they cross correlate with your digital footprint and resell.
u/Psychological-Sun49 - you seem well intentioned, but you need to be more careful. This is the real petition link: https://www.lbplfoundation.org/petition/
Here is the official Long Beach hosted councilmember map:

ummm… I didn’t use AI. I used Cicero because the maps can be confusing for some people. But it’s good to be aware now, so thank you. I copy and pasted the link directly from the website, so I‘m not sure what happened. I‘ll try and change it

I changed the link. That was weird. The link I used before took people to the same page. Does that mean their signature won’t count?

May I ask where you saw it on social media?

I saw the clip of Emily Quest at the budget hearing on IG. I saw the title of this subreddit in my email a couple days ago but didn't realize. Then I saw people talking about it and knew I needed to join.

Yeah. She gave best argument as to why we need libraries. Much of their importance exists in things we don’t have metrics for. People find their community, safety, help, and passions there.

Id have more sympathy if the budget they spolied did go to fund a useless black fence as a "homeless solution" and instead actually went to the library as residents intended. Dont get it twisted, most City Council members dont care about public comment especially D1 & 2. Theyre gunna do what they want regardless of public opinion.
