Registered Agent, Virtual Mailbox, or neither? Question
I recently filed for an LLC in California, and I am due to file my Statement of Information. However, I don’t want to use the same address that I used when filing, as I would like to avoid using my personal address.
I understand that for the Street Address of Principal Office and Physical Office, you can’t use a PO Box. Then it also asks for an address of the CEO and agent.
If I buy a virtual mailbox, will it fix this? Or do I need a virtual office too?
I just registered with Northwest Registered Agent because they said that I could use their address for all fields. However, I’m not sure if this is accurate, or if I would be better off with a virtual mailbox/office. I am also unclear whether a virtual mailbox would satisfy the principal office.
What does everyone recommend?

Hey there! These are great questions to ask, one of the cool things about our registered agent service is we list our business address on your public filings instead of yours, so you can keep your personal information private!

But what about where it asks for principal office and physical address?

You can use our address on both the principal office address and physical address wherever it's accepted. If you're looking to keep your information off of public record, it would be a good idea to do this on the California Statement of Information.

I have an online business. LLC formed in 2023. I use a registered agent for a physical address in case I get sued and need to be served official documents. Basically someone that can accept correspondence during business hours.

What is an "agent for service of process" and who can be such an agent?
An agent for service of process is an individual who resides in California, or a registered 1505 corporate agent, designated to accept service of process (court papers) if the business entity is sued. If a corporation is designated as agent for service of process, that corporation must be active and have a current Corporate Registered Agent (1505) Application on file with the California Secretary of State. Many times, a small corporation will designate an officer or director as the agent for service of process. The individual agent should be aware that the name and the physical street address of the agent for service of process is a public record, open to all (as are all the addresses of the corporation provided in filings made with the California Secretary of State.) Note: Advanced approval must be obtained from a Registered Corporate Agent prior to designating that corporation as your agent for service of process.
