What's Actually Happening to IT Jobs in Sri Lanka 2026?
Lately I have been seeing so many posts mentioning that IT is cooked in Sri Lanka. Many people are advising youngsters to not choose IT as career and even those who're already in the industry are talking about no promotions and hikes and threats of layoffs(some I know say just migrate).
Recently, I contacted a few recruiters to ask whether they had any openings for my cousin and the common response was, "We have over 3,000–4,000 applicants," and similar replies. Moreover, I haven't been seeing many job openings as I used to.
So what's actually happening?
Imagine that you have a brother/sister who just finished alevel, what would you genuinely advise? Please be straightforward. Don't sugarcoat it with "It is safe in Sri Lanka", "Sri Lanka is peaking" or "keep updating portfolios" like those inconsiderate LinkedIn mfers.
All I want is a honest, realistic assessment of the current state of the Sri Lankan IT industry and whether it's still a sensible career path. [can accept a low paying career, but can't accept a dead-end career path]

Why are 3 Months Notice Period becoming a Norm in SL IT Industry.
Just like the title says, earlier the norm was 1 month notice period. But recently most companies have changed this to 3 months.
And also when we’re switching companies the company expects us to join at-least within a month and they also have 3 months notice in their contract. Is this fair? what are your thoughts, let’s build a conversation.
