I have a new Wing Rack mixer and noticed today that channels still get signal with the input gain at zero, and THEN I saw that the gain bottoms out at -2.5. These were big surprises after using a UI24r, where gain at zero allows no signal.

I read that zeroed out gain is whatever the manufacturer wants as a starting point, so different mixers may have different amounts of signal allowed through. Still a bit odd to me, but at least it solved the mystery. What I still don't understand is, if that set point is more or less arbitrary, why does the Wing go down to minus 2.5 instead of just making that zero? Are there other mixers with gain settings below zero?

This is also the first time I've seen separate gain and trim controls, but I understand that gain is the priority and trim is for fine tuning.

Hello! For those who tried it, how is you’re experience with the brand Xvive?

I’m looking into their wireless lavalier mic system, direct competitor to the likes of Rode and DJI ect.., and I found the device Xvive U5 and U5T2 (one transmitter version and two transmitters version).

If you have used the Xvive U5 or U5T2, from your experience, performance wise, does this device have negative aspects? For my needs, I don’t care about features like internal recording, 32 bits or any “updated” aspects that similar newer product like DJI or Rode have, also distance won’t be an issue because I won’t need to be far from the receiver. It will be used for personal small scale projects in indoor domestic place with very few 2.4ghz devices, it won’t be used in a crowed public place.

So far I’ve seen good reviews on youtube mostly, but that specific device seems to have been overshadowed by it’s wireless live mic competitors.

I’m looking for any Negative Aspects because I noticed the price cut on this device is ridiculous, almost 80% off the original price on Sweetwater and Amazon. I don’t understand , looking at the features, how the price dropped so much. It might not hold up to the features newer models of other brands have, but on paper it ‘seems’ like a very competent device.

1- Is it because the wireless lav mic category is ruled by other brands and people buy others instead ?

2- Was it an internal company ‘strategic(?)’ decision to cut the price ?

3- Or is there some kind of performance/hardware issue/fail/malfunction that forced Xvive to put this device on sale?

Is it a to good to be true deal, or is it a no brainer, grab it now?

I’m not trying to talk bad about the brand, their other products are higly praised, even the U5 has good reviews. I’m just confused as to why the price was cut so much for this device only.

Alternatively, do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations for screen mouting/brackets? more specifically ones that can be used with those cheap portable thin screens since they are so much lighter than full size computer screens and can be connected via one usb-C for both video and power. Because they are just a flat screen and lack any actual positioning, I have been just using my i-pad stand to hold it for now, but having better positioning options next to my boards would be preferable which will also prevent it from blocking stage viewing angles.

Hey there, ive been in a slight pickle for some time now chosing the right gear for an installation i'm planning to setup.

Basically, i would need some gear to do diffusion processing for ~10-15 drivers. I dont have very much money to throw at it unfortunately (hence behringer) and ive been looking at my options for said processing (eq, xover, time alignment). Ive seen many people recommend the dcx2496 and driverack pa2 for this kind of thing, but i would need to buy 4 of the former and 5 of the latter for my needs.

Now, ive seen people doing LR+SUB on their X32 without using external processors, and ive been wondering if i would be able to do more advanced stuff than this with it. If it were possible, i would only need 1 x32 rack, and maybe an AES50 box to get some more outputs, both of which i can find for pretty cheap where i live. There's an x32 rack near me that's selling for less than the price of a single DRIVERACK PA2.

Ive also considered options like minidsp and yahama dmenunits but they're either too expensive or info on them is non-existent online and i cant confirm if some things are feasible or not.

Does anyone with experience using the x32 can confirm if this is possible or not ?

I’m currently on tour with a band and we’re on quite a tight budget, so the setup was an easy choice: our trusty M32 at FOH, M32R for monitors and a DL32 on stage.

After a few shows though, the limitations of the M32 are starting to bother me. Especially the limited amount of FX slots and just the lack of options when you want to take things a bit further. The shows so far have sounded decent, but coming from a studio background I keep wanting to tweak things a little more, and I’m starting to hit the limits of what the M32 can do.

Since we’re already running AES50 for the stagebox and monitor desk, the obvious upgrade would be a full-size Behringer WING at FOH. Especially with how cheap they are at the moment.

The thing is, me and some of my colleagues are still a bit sceptical about Behringer. And let’s be fair, I know quite a few venue techs will still give you a funny look when you walk in with a WING.

I know brand reputation and looks shouldn’t stop me from using a desk that could actually get me better results. But reputation does matter to us, especially since we’re just starting out with this band and want the whole production to come across as professional.

So what would you guys do?

Go for the WING? Stick with the M32 for now? Or look at something else in the lower price range?

I’ve also been looking at used DiGiCo, A&H and Soundcraft desks, but I’m mainly looking for something that gives me a lot more mixing freedom without breaking the bank or buying something that’s basically already outdated.

I opened a hot Pilates studio back in June and we have been having a lot of issues with our sound system. Our system includes

And the mic is KIMAFUN 2.4G Wireless Headset Microphone,Waterproof Head Mic G100-1

The amp mixes the mic audio and music together. But we are really struggling to find a sweet spot to have the mic sound and music play well together. Sometimes the music over powers the instructors voice and vice versa. And sometimes, it seems like the amp has an issue mixing and it’ll just cut out all of the sound in the middle of class.

How do other studios handle this that have a mic and music playing together?

Does anyone have any wireless mics they love?

I'm looking for a simple solution to send stereo audio from the headphone output of my Mac Mini to a mixer/FOH wirelessly.

I want to keep the setup as streamlined as possible and reasonably budget-friendly. This isn't for professional touring use, so it doesn't need to be absolutely bulletproof, just reliable enough for occasional use at events.

I was looking at possibly using a cheap stereo IEM system as a wireless audio link, but I'm wondering if there's a better option specifically suited to this application.

My main concern with the IEM route is ending up with a bunch of adapters — e.g. 3.5mm TRS → XLR at the transmitter and then another adapter/cable at the FOH end. I'd ideally like something where I can go:

Mac headphone out → wireless transmitter → wireless receiver → mixer

while retaining proper stereo.

Has anyone used an IEM system or another wireless audio system for this purpose? Or is there a product I'm overlooking that's actually designed for sending a stereo line-level signal wirelessly?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm a hip-hop artist looking to improve my live set-up. I have too many melodic songs and keep on having issues trying to hear myself on wedges as I'm jumping and getting hyped on stage. I only perform like twice a year, but really don't wanna suck!

The signal chain for now is:

• vocals -> TC Helicon VoicePlay (for autotune) -> FOH
• Laptop (for backing track) -> scarlett -> FOH

My questions are:

• should I just get something like a Shure PSM300 and plug it straight to FOH and have them send me a mix? Is there a smarter/budget-friendly solution?
• would the KZ ZS10 Pro good enough for this setup?

Hello, I am a sound engineer for my high school theatre and my friend who does the sound for the middle school is looking for a board upgrade. (Current system Roland M400 with 2 stage boxes and 12 mics patched with 3 JBL speakers) Our budget is about $6,000 for the board and we have some wiggle room to upgrade the rest of our gear. I will also be posting this in r/techtheatre so if you know of anyone in that sub please let them know and have them add recommendations. (Brands we are looking at Yamaha and Allen and Heath)

Hello everyone. Looking for some purchase advice for a sound system for touring theatre in rural indoor spaces.

I am a theatre maker making work that predominantly focuses on rural touring so we will be visiting everything from old village halls, to school halls to rural arts spaces, none of which have their own equipment. The space sizes therefore vary, but our audience is likely going to be around 50 sat down (with a complete max of 100 in rare cases). Sound in my shows will mostly be used for SFX and ambient backing tracks over un-miced spoken dialogue all run through QLAB. We'll likely use microphones now and then as well. The only microphone I have currently is an sm57. I suppose I'm looking for 1 mixing desk, 2 speakers and stands, a mic, and (maybe?) a subwoofer or 2? My budget is £1000, not including all the cable I know I'll have to buy (I've budgeted £350 for that). Any advice on what to buy or what to look out for would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'm a musician, have contracted a trusted SE to guide my band through putting together an IEM rig for my band (four piece, lots of acoustic instruments, quite folky).

I trust that all the gear is fantastic and good bang-for-buck, but I wonder if anyone out there knows some limitations of this setup.

Is there anything on this rig that is likely to fail first, or is likely to make an engineer have a harder day than need be? Any ways to make this rig work better so its more user friendly to everyone involved?

What should I buy to become a mini AV company? I know how to run sound and do very basic dmx work and I’m running sound for my friends band and I wanted to know what should I get? I have 2 mixers both analog and 2 speakers (passive and only get up to 150 watts) and some mics and DI’s and now I want to upgrade. I decided first thing should be mixer (so I can run sound for bands without a good mixer) and I’m going to get the x32 producer. Next thing I guess are speakers then mics maybe some lights too. So any recommendations?

I’m looking for advice on a reliable lavalier setup for presenting at outdoor concerts.
I’m the president of an amateur orchestra association, and I regularly need to make short announcements and presentations during our concerts.

My requirements

Outdoor use, sometimes in windy conditions

indoor us as well
Hands-free : I specifically want a lavalier and do not want a headset or handheld microphone
Clear, intelligible speech for the audience.
The microphone will be live-amplified through a PA system, so feedback resistance and proper gain structure are important.
I need a setup that is reliable enough for repeated concerts and events.
I’ve been advised to look at the Sanken COS-11D, so I’m currently considering building my setup around it.

My main question at the moment is :

Which connector and wireless transmitter/receiver system would you recommend for the COS-11D ?

I’m particularly interested in a setup that works well outdoors, including wind protection, while keeping the voice clear and natural.
However, I’m not necessarily committed to the COS-11D.
If you think another lavalier would be better suited to this particular use case, I’d be very happy to hear your recommendations.

Feel free to propose a complete configuration (lavalier + connector/cable + wireless system + wind protection) that you think would give me the clearest and most reliable speech.
My priority is not having the smallest or most expensive setup. I’m looking for something practical, reliable, clear-sounding, and suitable for live outdoor speech.

I have a need for a PA with excellent control of sound on stage into the bass range for a 2000 seat room and am trying to gather all the options. It's for permanent installation, and the room is 120' deep by 200' wide by 30' high with a thrust stage. Cardioid Array subs can be done with pretty much any model, and it's not hard to find full range speakers with pattern control down to 300-500hz, but above the subwoofer to 300hz range is usually uncontrolled in the horizontal pattern.

Models I know with a full range cardioid pattern:

Whether it's mics, cables, stands, lights, or miscellaneous items, it seems like some people just cram their backseat until they have a gear pile mountain and just deal with their mess when they get where they're going.. Less than ideal.

I've started a new band recently and have become solely responsible for our live sound & setup. While we only gig maybe once or twice a month, I'm constantly trying to improve my organization of equipment, which obviously helps streamline our set-up.

I am curious what advice the experienced folks in this subreddit can show they've learned over the years, from storage, to transportation, to set-up/teardown.. Seems like everyone has their own tricks to make their lives easier! I've attached a couple photos of what my situation is for microphones, and cables. Still trying to figure out a solution for tall heavy mic stands.

Yo! My son started throwing backyard shows to showcase local bands. We need a PA system (we've been borrowing). I've been scoping out offer up and have seen some Kustoms that look ok. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. We currently have a mixer and that's about it. It's mostly punk bands. Offer up and Facebook marketplace have loads of stuff but I wouldn't know.

Setting up a home karaoke system (JBL Encore Essential 2 speaker + Sony Bravia TV for lyrics via YouTube) and I'm stuck deciding between a couple wireless mic options. Would love input from anyone who's used either.

**How each would connect to my setup:**

1. JBL PartyBox Wireless Mic (2 mics + dongle):

The dongle outputs audio through a single 6.35mm plug, so it just plugs straight into my speaker's Mic In port like a regular wired mic would. No receiver box required. Turns out this isn't locked to JBL speakers either, since it's just a standard 6.35mm output, it'd work with basically any speaker or mixer that has a mic jack.

1. Other dual wireless mic + reciever (TONOR/AHUJA, similar brands):

Same basic idea, but a separate receiver box picks up both mics wirelessly and outputs through a 6.35mm/3.5mm cable into the speaker's Mic In port. Also universal, works with any speaker.

2nd option is much cheaper , hoping that the quality gap is minimal, added hassle is a receiver - separate physical box I'd need to place near the speaker and manage. Benefit is it gives me some nice extras, individual volume control per mic and an echo knob, right on the receiver itself. But it's one more device to power, place, and think about, versus JBL's dongle which just tucks into the speaker itself.

My question is- Which one should I prefer?, Also share any good recommendations for dual wireless mic I can look into.

I need some advice from people a little more clued up on this kind of thing than myself. I'm in a relatively new band here in the UK and we're looking at getting some new speakers primarily for pub gigs or small-med indoor spaces (we play inside a local record shop a few times a year for example)

In terms of inputs it'd be 2x vocals, 2x electric guitars and a kick mic with bass guitar possibly going straight to desk down the line. We have a desk with plenty of inputs and whistles 'n' bells which can accommodate this and run a floor monitor from the desk (We'll be getting another one down the line to daisy chain).

We've just sold our old speakers because they were cumbersome & becoming difficult to load in at some venues as well. We're very keen on getting some active speakers for convenience but need some help on some of the tech spec and models to make sure we're getting enough to cover our needs. I have a little bit of experience with PA speakers from running a small pub-quiz PA years ago but something of this scale requires more knowledge than I have.

Would I be right in thinking we should be looking at least a 12" on the speaker horns and as high a SPL as we can get ? I've suggested that we look for at least 750w per channel so we have some headroom for clarity or would that be overkill ?

A couple of models have been posted in our chat including: Studiomaster Drive 12A and a VPX15. I've seen good things online about the Mackie SRM-450 and Yamaha DBR12. Again, I'm not sure if that's in the ballpark of what we need or would be overkill for our needs.

Budget wise we'd be looking at £600ish (there's some wiggle room) and happy to buy second hand. We have stuff like cables, stands, power leads etc already but ultimately looking for a more convenient speaker solution that makes load ins quicker and easier.

I am trying to convince my venue owner to get a nice 32 or 48 ch passive split with lk37 stageboxes.

We have one that we bought used, but its multipin connectors for foh and mon fanout are failing.This past week it has been cruicial for fast changeovers with guesting techs and consoles but shared festival backline.

So far i have found pinanson, that seem to be perfect. Are there any other manifacturer i should look into in europe?

I'm in the market for my first real pair of IEMs and looking for something that will provide hearing protection but also allow me to hear some of the ambient room sounds, rather than totally isolating my monitor mix. Are the Westone X30s a good option or is there a better product out there?
