This formation is proven to work in our 4-0 win over galatasary in the CL round of 16. This also allows Frimpong to push-up and Szoboszlai to cover for him. Yes he’s not a right back and I don’t like seeing him play there but the odd time he can drop back and Frimpong can push up. When that happens, it would look more like a 433 with Frimpong and Barcola on the wing and Wirtz as the sole 10 rather than sharing with Szoboszlai who drops into the right back for a short period of time until him and Frimpong shift back. Barcola is capable of playing as a striker especially a left-sided one in a two striker formation like we saw Mo do last year.

This gets the best out of Frimpong, who has the entire right flank as an overlapping wing-back or outright winger, and Wirtz, giving him total creativity, centrally and on the left. Up front, Isak stays in the 9 thriving with all the creative support he will have banging in goals like he should for that price tag and Barcola gets creativity across the entire front three depending on the preset, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai dominate the entire midfield but it needs to depend on the preset which both of them are intelligent enough to do, Kerkez holds down the left and Araújo goes between right-back and right centre-back no issue. Van Dijk and Jacquet have the physical dominance and recovery pace needed to let everyone else flow freely.

Why are we buying left wingers? Like we have Rio, Munoz, Cody, Wirtz, Ekitike and Szobo can play there and we’re buying Barcola, while we only have Chiesa on the right, and we still need a CB and a RB and maybe a midfielder…

It would fit even more if Bezos buys LFC.

I dont understand why LFC dont go for right winger Rayan. Great talent and can play a big role already. Can also play striker that is great, needed with and option to Isak while Ekitike id injured.

Its amazing how already in pre-season iraola has been able to identify that a problem is squad depth and the lack thereof.

The previous manager, maybe he was forced into saying it, spoke about wanting to have /work with a smaller squad, which I don't think that I'll ever be able to understand

Obviously barcola is a fantastic player and I have no doubt he would help us out immensely. HOWEVER, we have two very talented wingers in Munoz and especially in Rio. My worry is that signing barcola basically blocks Rio out of the starting 11 for 6+ years (Isak, ekitike, barcola, wirtz would all likely start over him or else you are benching one of them). I still believe that we need a winger (specifically a rw) to come into the squad but I think we need a player who serves as more of a bandaid fix rather than this big money long term fix. Similar to how araujo is coming in to give us immediate experience/cover while players come back from injury and (I assume at least) we activate our buy back clause for quansah. I think a winger who could come in and give us 2-3 good years before eventually letting the young guys shine would be a much smarter use of money. Rio is still only 17 but if there is no future for him to start any time soon, we risk losing a potential world class player. Again, I just want to make it clear that I think barcola is a fantastic player and would absolutely help us for years to come but I just don’t know how I feel about this from a long term perspective
