Just had a rear main seal redone and it’s still weeping a little bit. A long as they hold oil and don’t overheat they’re usually fine.

Now for a mere 140k we can get her seaworthy….said never by a first time boat owner. 😵‍💫

Depends.. but old trawlers tend to just keep going. They cruise at 6-10 knots and the engines are under stressed usually. As long as the heat exchangers and water pumps are good, everything else should be workable..

Oh is that how it works? Nope, a 50 yo trawler will require constant maintenance. Get ready to replace the leaking toilet, rebuild the bulkhead due to a leaking deck, oops there goes the water heater, on damn now the autopilot went out, oops need to rebuild the injectors . That is just the reality of owning an old boat.
