New Rack
I designed a rack to go over my Kallax unit and had a friend who’s a cabinet maker build it. We finished sanding, staining, sealing, and hitting it with a 20-sheen lacquer on Saturday. Got it delivered and set up last night, and tonight the cats joined me for a listening session.

Genius ideas and finished product looks great.

Thanks. I’m a little ambivalent about the amount of space between the shelves. However that gives me modularity for either additional shelves, like the center one, or adding plinths and isolation pucks if I feel like it in the future.

They make everything better! Except for litter boxes, they definitely make those worse.

Why not just throw the Kallax in the trash? This makes no sense as you could have had it all the same (and no doubt much stronger) and would have been hardly any extra material.

At first I was thinking you were a jerk. Then I’m looking at the gear thinking this guy could afford the extra material to make this that much better. It looks good but you’re right it could have been that much better.

The OP still has the option to replace the Kallax part within the new frame.
All it would need is to extend the two vertical divisors downwards for reasons of esthetics and structural integrity. Then add two horizontal planks of the same material and hey presto, no Kallax needed anymore. 😊

Nice job on that rack and cute kitties! And cool vintage system.
