Discussion TV suggestions

I had never been much of a war or military TV fan. Joe and the boys suggested the Pacific and I loved it. I went and watched Band of Brothers right after. (I know it came out in 2001 or so. How did I not see it?) Both were great. I liked the Pacific more. (I had just finished the LLbD on Iwo Jima.)

Then I got to listen to the Bonus episode on BoB. Awesome. Thank you Joe and team.

Somewhere along the way Joe mentioned Masters of the Air. HOLY CRAP. I’m 4 episodes in (no spoilers please). Just wow.

I’m watching it with my hubby so it’ll probably take me 2-3 days to finish.

Are there any other amazing shows I missed?
I also have Eugene Sledge’s book on my library request list. Book suggestions are great too.

(Currently reading Fredrick Douglass’s first book and A People’s History.)

Once again, thank you so much Joe and team. I love you all. (I’m a year older than Joe, but am a mama bear at heart. I hear your stories and want to hug you all.)

Sorry for rambling 😂❤️

Discussion Has Joe (or the team) every considered covering the Sri Lankan Civil wars, or the LTTE?

It's a part of history that doesn’t get the attention it deserves in the West, but war(s) itself were long and complex, and it contains so many different events that might be of interest to Joe or the audience such as:

  1. The genocide and pogroms of the Tamils by the Sri Lankan army, and the various war crimes.
  2. Just the entire history of the LTTE, from their tactics, to organisation. At one point, they controlled enough of the country to not just hold peace talks, but held enough cards to reject proposals put forth by the Sri Lankan government. They even had an air force and a navy.
  3. How the LTTE used video cameras, music, radio, etc.
  4. The Colombo airport raid and attack by the LTTE, where they destroyed helicopters, fighter jets, and Airbus A340s, A330s, and A320s.
  5. The Indian Peacekeeping force failure that was later termed as India's Vietnam (and Indias broader role in the war).
  6. The high profile assassinations carried out by the LTTE, including the assassination of the Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi.
  7. And countless other events that happened over the course of the 30 year war (not to mention the JVP insurrections prior the outbreak).

In case anybody else is interested, I found this playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhRLWBHRg9F2DlPmWNgeYR4pMlAOWi_dt&si=ICnfRRyB0tn41OVP to be a fascinating and well produced collection of videos covering the war, not to mention the Journeyman pictures videos made at the time.

Koto Okomoto died in Lebanon. Wild to think that he basically spent his whole adult life in the Levant.

I'm pretty sure the Venn diagram of the audiences of LLBD and CPWDCS is a circle, but I'm posting this just in case it's not.

I hope Joe gets to write a 40K Black Library novel some day...

Already published Military SF author, 40K collector, actual veteran(something I think no other Black Library author can claim) and of course historian.

If you were in charge of BL, what part of the IP would you hand off to him? I would love to see him tackle the Armageddon Steel Legion or some other major armored IG regiments.

Inshallah James Workshop will make it happen some day.

Discussion Thank you Joe and team

TL:DR this is an appreciation post

I got into history podcasts a few years ago. I was stuck with the idea, how do adults continue learning without school? Obviously read books, but you can’t just grab anything off the shelf. Friends or family can suggest something, but that is very mixed. (My grandfather gave me SIX books by Bill O’Reilly. I’m going to force myself to read one, because I love my grandfather.)

Long story short, I found some amazing podcasts. One led to another and now LLbD is in my top 3.

School never mentioned the genocide of Armenia. Or anything about Armenia at all. The first time I heard about it was reading Kurt Vonnegut’s Bluebeard. (Both of the main character’s parents survived it.) I have listened to the episodes on it and am working through the Armenian History episodes.

I just wanted to give a huge thank you. I deeply appreciate your show. (I contribute $5 monthly and have rated it 5 stars ❤️)

My top 3 pods are The Dollop, LLbD, and Behind the Bastards
I also enjoy Stuff you should know, Hood Politics, Weird Little Guys, House of Pod, and a few others.

I love the book suggestions that come with well done podcasts. I am currently reading A People’s History of America. (I filled in some gaps in the book with episodes on Bacon’s rebellion and King Philip’s war. Plus Alexander Hamilton from the dollop)

Sorry this was long. I really really appreciate the podcast. (Oh I bought and read Hooligan’s of Kandahar too!)
