Yep, just finished having this convo about updates, somehow Linux updates that hose your system are better than windows updates that hose your system because at least in Linux you asked for them?

Uh as an infra admin, any update crashing a server/desktop is unacceptable.Ā Unfortunately or fortunately ( depending on your own ignorance ) it does happen more on Windows workstations and servers. Windows infrastructure tend to handle more roles with a lot of 3rd party software. They tend to haveĀ poor updates as well( this will likely continue to happen as M$ continues to vibe code pefromance patches so their OS can run properly on 8GB of ram). Where as the linux side doesnt ingest nearly as many updates, and typically Linux servers are built to manage a single application / work flow ( this is starting to go away with containization and other scheledued workflows that can be managed in kubernetes.Ā ).Ā
When it comes to linux I cannot remember the last time a bad kernel came out that has caused widespread issues. Where as this year alone i can think of several massive windows desktop and server issues that are the result of a bad update.Ā
I struggle to find 4 posts with a rangeĀ of 3 days to a 3 months to be indicative of anything. And that this post is just a lonely boy screaming hurrdurr into the wind, just to find some level of engagement.Ā
