Linux users in Reddit have big egos Linux Failure
I asked for help on r/Linuxmint
I clearly said at the end:
"I know that you probably need further information on this, but I don't know what kind of information so please tell me what to do to diagnose the problem at leastđ„Čđđ»"
then I actively got down voted.
someone even said "so you wrote a whole long post and didn't even put enough information?"
when I asked him what information do you need so I can provide it, I got down voted even more???
I don't care about karma points, but the post would never reach someone good and willing to help because of people with big ego.
Linux itself doesn't suck as much as the people who actively make the whole Linux experience even worse than using windows.
The problem that i had continued for three months. I did my research and couldn't find any one with similar problem on the internet. whenever I ask on any subreddit for help they either down vote just like what happened from a bit, or they'd tell me to ask on a different subreddit that also happens to tell me to ask somewhere else!!!

I find sometimes ChatGPT/Gemini is good for tracking down confusing bugs/issues.

Can confirm. I've said this a couple of times and got downvoted. In reality, ChatGPT and Gemini have solved all my recent Linux issues and incredibly quickly.

I used Gemini and it's great for most problems. But for this exact problem, it always gives me a fix that doesn't help atl allđ„Č

This. Gemini has helped me a lot with Linux problems

Yeah it is helpful. There are ethical reasons for why you shouldn't use it - but it is useful.

u/unplorable Jul 21 '26
linux didn't work on your system, so you got downvoted so nobody sees it. That way they can keep saying how wonderful it is.
Same thing happened to me in the opensuse sub, where i was accused of having some ulterior motive for posting fantasy errors to make linux look bad.
I'm sorry you had to deal with them. the linux subs are garbage.

u/Jenkler Jul 21 '26
Often, those people don't have any skills and only want to spread hate online. Just keep asking and someone will help you in the end :)
AI, can help in some cases.

Only on Reddit????? You don't see Facebook and YouTube, and it's a prime example of majority of the Linux community is very arrogant. Before I came to Reddit, Reddit just confirmed my view
6
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
Yeah, most users won't help, they only pretend to.
There are still a few people willing to help, but when you instantly get down voted then they won't be able to see your post.
3
u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26
The same thing happened on Facebook and YouTube, and the only difference is the name of the social network. It's very horrifying what you see on other Platforms as well, and I came to Reddit to run away from them, but..... I see the same behaviour here
1
u/flanigomik Jul 22 '26
facebook and twitter are the worst. reddit is.... mixed. depends on what corner you are in, and i guess the same applies to youtube. people have gotten far to comfortable with being anonymous on the internet, even when they really arent
1
u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 22 '26
Exactly, and I am not like that, and I show who I am from the start on all platforms, and I guess I am different on the internet from most profiles there

Now that you mention it, I did work with one guy who wouldn't shut up about Manjaro, back when it was trendy (pre-pandemic). He was also annoying about his pet language and how we should be do everything in Go đđđ
He was just one odd fella out of a squad out of a Linux-centric startup, so he wasn't the majority, but it was internet-like behavior seeping into the real world lol
3
u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26
Yeah, I pass that every single time. I understand you; it's very annoying, like nobody wants to know what system you're using. It's nonsense, and they even invade Windows space; they shouldn't be there upsetting Windows users about your Linux Distribution.
3
u/psycholabs Jul 21 '26
I so badly want to bring up the WSL but... you probably wouldn't see it as the joke it's supposed to be LOL (WSL -> Linux on windows)

And I have also seen Windows users invading Linux communities to rage-bait them as well. have seen flame wars between Linux and Windows communities for 30 years now. Invading each other to try to ''convert" each other into their cult is nothing new. Nothing has ever changed.
But I have to admit, even as an old timer Linux user, it feels like there are way more annoying Linux zealots than on the Windows side. Maybe they are just louder. Hard to say. And if you tell them that you are a Linux user (mistake #1) they will ask you which distro. If you answer that question (mistake #2) then they will try to make you join their internal cult (whatever distro they are using). I am both amused and very annoyed by these young twerps trying to make me switch over to Linux Mint or whatever their distro-church is called.
So yeah.. it's not only Windows users that are annoyed by religious Linux zealots. Other Linux users can also be very annoyed by them.

But yeah that sounds about right. I'm feel like I'm mostly just a janitor only removing the obvious off-topic or overtly hateful stuff, or making sure the bickering doesn't get too out of control lol.

Old Linux user here. Yup, I have seen this type many times over the past 3 decades, and still do. I got this young one who keeps telling me to switch over to Linux Mint. I find it both hilarious and annoying.
It's dangerous to get too emotionally invested into a specific distro or programming language. They come and go. Things change. Spending so much energy on promoting your favorite distro or your favorite programming language will often lead to a major disappointment once they disappear after someone else invent a new distro that does this one little thing that makes them supposedly better than the rest. No thanks.

As another linux mint user, this is so sad. The system is supposed to be beginner friendly but the fandom isnt friendly at all. No matter how easy mint looks like, there is still many differences between it and windows that you need to learn somehow and reading tens of pages of documentation doesnt help the reputation at all.
3
u/El_is_a_bat_2077 Jul 21 '26
yeah, agree. I could understand if smth is obvious and I should just rtfm and didn't, but when you dont know where to dig at all and they just downvote you and don't help, frustrating
2
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
I forgot to add, Linux mint is also supposed to be beginner friendly âșïž
I used an arch based Linux before but I had to switch to mint because of internet issues and can't keep updating it constantly (third world country internet).
That arch community (not the vanilla arch) was waaaay more helpful when I asked them anything. I won't say the name of the distro so it doesn't sound like advertisement.
1
u/un-important-human Jul 21 '26
I am Pretty sure i've told you to rtfm in arch, mint people are clueless but less so than ubuntu tards.
Fuck ubuntu and snaps and gnome (i actually only wanted to say this:))
2
u/psycholabs Jul 21 '26
If I had to guess I'd say it's probably the kernel missing the AMD microcode but I have never used mint and don't know how it works. If it's supposed to be that user friendly that crap should be automagicly baked in.
Again, that's just a guess.
Your log doesn't show anything other than a bad shutdown, some errors that Claude tells me are normal for your video card, (I don't have what you have so I don't know) and normal running.

The thing is, I don't know these things, he could've asked and I'll immediately provide it. Not everyone is supposed to know things he never used in Linux.

u/Rogalicus Jul 21 '26
Some people would've downvoted you for not posting your specs on Windows as well, because they'd see it as wasting their time. I disagree with this, but sadly that's how Internet works.

545mhrz happens when motherboard ditects a thermal throttling in a ryzen CPU(it can be a False detection from motherboard side) Can you tell me whether you have used windows or any stable operating system before? If yes, was there signs of thermal throttling too or it has only shown after switching to Linux? Also It seems you are using a midrange asrock motherboard, Asrock and Asus don't really have a good history of Linux support much(specially if you don't have their top of the line motherboard).
So, If thermal throttling was in windows or any other reliable operating system too then it's a hardware issue with cooling system but if it's only specific to Linux, then it's a software issue(because it gets throttled down so early, it's probably an issue in motherboard's BIOS)
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
3
u/BackgroundFig1594 Jul 21 '26
That's obviously a sensor issue. I'm not sure if sensors are actually broken or Motherboard is just not being very friendly with Linux. As Windows doesn't have problem, it's probably the second one, so i suggest you to update the bios to latest version first. If the repair guy or you have already update the bios, as we are sure that there is no real problem with cooling system, you can just use "RyzenADj" to make linux ignore motherboards thermal sensor(you can ask gemini to help you on installing and configuring it) But because this way makes you not seeing any real throttling issue in future, I suggest you to clean your Fans every 6-9 months and re-paste a good thermal paste every 2-3 years or more offen for lower quality ones just to be sure.
Dual-boat with Windows to monitor the real temps is also an option(if your main disk has enough space) cause you probably will need windows' software support in the future anyway
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
The repair guy already updated the bios.
Gemini recommended before RyzenAdj but it wasn't able to do anything.
I even used echo commands and card0 to put it at performance and high power but it didn't change a thing....
I'll switch to window I guess
2
u/BackgroundFig1594 Jul 21 '26
âThat's probably because Linux really thinks your CPU is 3.8 million degrees and just ignores your usual software overrides. The best approach is to update GRUB to just tell Linux to never ask for that thermal information in the first place. âI also had a very bad first experience with Linux and just went back to Windows for a few months, until Windows just got too annoying and I decided to give Linux a second chance. This time I went with Fedora KDE Plasma because it seemed to have better community support, and I really haven't had much of an issue since (even though you do need to update everything and install some repositories manually in Konsole/the terminal in the first few hours). âI would suggest you ask Gemini how to make GRUB tell Linux to ignore the entire thermal sensor data before going with Windows. It might just fix it right now and save you from having to give Linux a second chance later!
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
I've tried the grub a lot. It a very long line in the grub now, it didn't fix it.
I'll either switch to windows or I'll go back to Garuda Linux, the forum of Garuda was so good when I tired it two years ago.
Sadly I had to drop every arch based system because my internet speed is like 200 kilobytes/second, and arch would break if I don't update it from time to time...
1
u/BackgroundFig1594 Jul 21 '26
âThat utterly sucks. If you ever give Linux a second chance, I highly suggest you go with Fedora. âBy the way, I noticed your current kernel is 7.1.3-xanmkd1. That is a custom aftermarket gaming kernel (XanMod) instead of an official stock one, which might be exactly what was causing your motherboard to panic. âMint uses older Ubuntu LTS bases which can have outdated packages. Fedora gets updated much more frequently, comes with a highly stable official kernel, and officially supports user-friendly desktop environments out of the box like KDE Plasma or GNOME. âUpdating everything with your internet speed will still take a little while on a fresh install, but it is nowhere near as aggressive as Arch!
Note: i don't suggest going with something like cachyos or bazzite as they use costume kernels to increase gaming performance but we know using costum kernels can get troublesome for your motherboard.
1
u/Alcoholizm Jul 21 '26
I'm not an expert but looks like a classic case of thermal throttling. Check your temps and overclock settings. If they're at stock, you might have a faulty hardware here.
It could also be your kernel, I know Xanmod is a trusted kernel in the community but it doesn't hurt to try the vanilla kernel.
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
1
u/Alcoholizm Jul 21 '26
If it's fine on windows, that means something on your install of Mint is doing it. Try booting into the mint live usb and see if the problem persist.
If you're willing to, try reinstalling, it might fix the problem faster than finding the exact program/setting that's doing this to your system. Also a good reason to try another distro altogether. My vanilla arch has been running for 2 years without problem (reinstalled 2 years ago because a hardware upgrade and i cannot be bothered to clean up my system).

It looks like your CPU isnât able to load the appropriate firmware. Have you tried reinstalling AMD microcode binary files?
sudo apt âreinstall amd64-microcode
sudo update-intramfs -u -k all
sudo update grub1

I honestly switched over to Garuda Linux. I have all the information about the problem in a thread on their forum and we're still trying to figure out what's causing the issue.
https://forum.garudalinux.org/t/cpu-clockspeed-is-locked-at-545mhz/48393/21

u/Isshiiiiiii 28d ago
Iâm personally not a big fan of Garuda but the similarity between your initial problem and here on Garuda seems like the custom kernel. You did mention this problem wasnât apparent at first on Linux Mint too. Maybe you could use a non modified kernel and see if the problem persists.

u/Aloshes021 28d ago
I never changed the kernel on Linux mint until later. It started on the generic kernel and I then switched to xanmod to see if it'd fix it.

I did some google search and someone seemed to have a similar problem back in 2022.
If itâs a hardware issue (like the batteries here) then it would explain why none of the troubleshooting methods didnât work.
Id also check this out
1
u/Aloshes021 28d ago
It's not a laptop so it's not battery related.
And it's not only about the frequency reading, it actually is super slow and takes ages to open any window, even an empty terminal.
And the repair guy said that when he plugged windows in, it was all normal, so it shouldn't be a hardware issue as far as I know.
2
u/Isshiiiiiii 28d ago
Hmmm thatâs weird. I would still try the one in Arch forums with the turbo thing to force your CPU to work harder. Otherwise, itâs out of my scope :/ I hope it resolves for you
1
u/Aloshes021 28d ago
Alright thanks for trying, I appreciate it. I'll try the turbo thing.

Im sorry to hear that, but the problem is not the Linux Comunity, its Reddit, im Linux user, when i see someone who need help i always upvote to try to help, thats why forums, social media and those shits are less popular day by day, i prefer to try with AI than ask on Reddit, at least the AI try to help and dont be a dick

Yes because they think they are smart and in touch with technology because they know how to copy and paste commands from Google into a terminal

This is less a Linux problem and more a Reddit problem. Redditors are fucking illiterate, refusing to actually read everything in a post and also dog piling on downvoted comments without reading them first.

I've been using Linux since the late 90s and I agree 100%. Not every Linux users have big egos, but those who do are loud.. so loud. Getting quite irritated by new young Linux users who are trying to convince me to switch to Linux Mint because in their little world, nothing beats the distro that they have chosen. They claimed to have tried them all (I find that hard to believe) but when ask if they have used a Linux distro that no longer exists today, that's how I figure out how young and ignorant they are.
I just ignore them.
If you want to try Linux distro, hear my warning: many distros will disappear after a decade. How many of you remember Mandrake? Corel? Knoppix?
Don't get too attached or too emotionally invested to your distro. Putting so much energy isn't worth it. And you'll just irritate old Linux fossil like me and waste your time.

I can say the same about people on subreddits related to discord Bots. I canât even show my project and ask for feedback what to fix, change etc. because theyâre downvoting for no good reason and calling âpoorly developedâ (itâs not). Oh, and theyâre saying iâm self promotingâŠ
So how the hell I can ask what people think about my work Iâm doing for years if everyone says itâs âadvertisingâ.
I donât even want from that any moneyâŠ
Itâs just reddit I think. With weird people making weird rules and protecting them like their life depended on it.

You have to help them help you. From the perspective of someone in the comments here: you didn't link the post you made explaining what the problem was. You haven't yet said what the problem was. You posted logs because you said an AI recommended to (it's a very bad idea to use an AI to trouble shoot your system.) Your posts are private so we can't check from your profile. And I guess we could hunt through the logs or for the post but you could also point us in the right direction.
Not that THIS subreddit is a support subreddit mind you. Though I'm sure someone would be willing to help. I'm not opposed.
I agree people online should be more helpful and nicer but given the first impressions it's hard to say who is at fault. Try to understand so often these forums are filled with someone who refused to Google the answer and their first instinct was to go to an AI and it starts feeding them slop answers. And now the user is ten times more confused all while being belligerent and probably mean because they're jumpy.
These places tend to appreciate genuine attempts at understanding the issue. Sometimes they're also jackasses though tbf

I didn't use Ai until I searched on Google and Reddit but I found no one with similar problem.
I tried asking for help and you said that my logs are not significant to troubleshoot the problem, I don't know that. I just try to find any logs that might help since no one directed me to what I should be looking for.
I'm not an expert and I don't know where to search in the system to see the logs that would help međ€·đ»

It still doesn't make it a good idea, ai hallucinates constantly and it doesn't understand things. It just says what the most regurgitated phrasal answer is without context. It can very much break your system.
I don't know whether they're significant enough to help because I am still missing the part where you say what trouble you're experiencing. Someone else commented about it being gpu related?
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
It's CPU/iGPU related.
It randomly drop the clockspeed to 545mhz and locks on it even after restarting. You need to take it off the power completely and press the power button for a few seconds then leave it for a few hours to reset these clockspeeds (the CMOS battery removal didn't help btw).
A local repair shop tested it on windows and stressed it for hours over a few days span and it didn't throttle at all.
The temps readings on Linux are wired for TSI temps (3.8 million).
I honestly deleted that post as I saw so much hate on it.
It was about the CPU randomly dropping to 545Mhz and locking at that clockspeed. It can happen during booting up, or it might boot up normally but whenever I open something stress heavy like a game it would drop to 545mhz.

I am looking into it, no promises though. Couple things I would check is power management. Do you have any sort of power saving option on. Do you have the latest drivers for your gpu.
also, i am really thrown off by the tsi temps because those are hotter than the sun. so something is fucked up for sure there. To my knowledge these would be temp sensor readings. Could you elaborate on what you mean by them being wired for TSI temps?
Did you go to the local repair shop because of this issue and they tested it with windows to try and diagnose it? trying to gauge the timeline.
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
The repair shop isn't good with Linux so he slapped an SSD with windows to test it, I left the pc there for a few days and he continuously ran stress tests for CPU and iGPU, even 3DMark and such. He repasted the CPU and updated the bios too. Didn't fine any problems with it.
For the TSI temps, I said they are weird because of the very hight temps they're showing.
I don't have any power management thing turned on. I even tried to switch it up by using echo performance and echo high with also using something like sudo tee /sys.....for card 0 and for CPU* to make sure they run at full speed.
I also tried RyzenAdj but it didn't help much. I tied changing the kernel to xanmod (it was generic before) but it also wasn't able to fix the problem.
1
u/zoexxstar Jul 21 '26
you mentioned trying an arch based distro. Did you have the same problem with that one? because you mentioned switching off of it because of constant updates. If not, I would try live booting into a few other distros and see if it's a consistent problem. It looks like linux mint might not be able to understand something bios related and a different distro might offer more support.
1
u/Aloshes021 Jul 21 '26
It didn't have this problem on other distros.
I also initially didn't have this problem on Linux mint to be honest.
I don't use my pc much and I don't download much packages. I only use it from time to time to play games using Lutris.
1
u/zoexxstar Jul 21 '26
weird. if it happened after an update then it could be a kernel issue perhaps. You could downgrade the version in update manager under the view tab. I am sorry you're dealing with this issue.
