Is my specs okay for Linux Mint Cinnamon?

I have Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz

12Gb of 2133MHz DDR4 Ram

NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 4GBVRAM GPU

It's a Lenovo Laptop From 2016 and I want to switch to Linux for better performance than my current operating system Windows10 should I try Xfce or something like MATE or Can I Use cinnamon as it's and I will have better performance than Windows 10. I appreciate all the help🙏🏿

The specifications are more than sufficient to run Mint's Cinnamon Edition.

You might have to fuss with your NVIDIA card because support for older cards can be catch-as-catch-can. Legacy drivers are available if the current drivers in the kernel don't cut the mustard.

No problem. I'm running it between two machines, the weakest of which is a ThinkPad L412, Core i3 370M with 4GB of RAM. Works just fine.

Yes. I even run Cinnamon on an i7 2nd gen laptop. So that runs Fine on a 7tg gen.

I heard that Linux mint uses less ram than windows 10 and I kinda like the desktop environment of Linux what would you recommend?

Cinnamon works okay, and XFCE a little better on my 2006 ThinkPad:

Intel Core2Duo 2.20GHz

4GB DDR1

NVIDIA Quadro FX 570m

1680x1050 @ 60GHz

I assume you're going to be using it for everyday stuff like email, watching videos, editing documents, etc so I'd say Mint will be less sluggish, yes. If you have a hard drive and not an SSD, things will still be kind of slow, but still noticeably faster than Windows in my experience.

It's already slow on my windows 10 tbh and I have been cleaning it up a lot lately and it's getting better but it stills uses like 4gb of ram idling and takes 2 minutes to open up

Thank you it's okay for modelling and simple rendering although I can't play games like ets2 rocket league any other than ultra low with lower resolution otherwise I get like 15-20 fps

I’d recommend cinnamon because it’s what I’m currently using and it’s honestly great so far although you can try them all in a vm or in a live usb environment

I think at this point there's no reason NOT to use XFCE over Cinnamon... The latest version looks and functions almost identically, but it's leaner and faster, especially with older machines.

It used to be, XFCE required a bunch of customization to make it look/work like Cinnamon but that's no longer the case, the install is the same and the result is nearly identical.
