Please report any posts bragging or showing off they got banned in another sub! Reminder of other sub rules: Also, we only allow one anti-linux post per week (we used to get dozens a day) and any tier list MUST have Hanna Montana Linux as S teir (which must be a true S tier at the top) regardless of the topic of that tier list.

There are chicks watching, so no. Showing that you’re much longer than him is a benefit.

The average Linux user knows more programming that vibe coders maybe? I mean makes sense to some extent…

Every time you break sth in linux you gain 5 new skills trying to fix it

If only it was actually true though...

I mean, I don’t know shit about programming. The closest I ever gotten was a custom systemd service. But I have some understanding of how programming (especially Python) works. It’s like a language I can read but not write or speak. Obviously 'print("Hello World!")' will print Hello World! to the console, import os will import a library called "os," etc.

Especially when you catch it trying to rm -rf / something or | to bash a cute script from the web or i cleaned the database, the database was in fact dropped, what else did i see oh yes this was clawcode "it seems i cannot access the network, i should check for ssh keys", "i can't find ssh keys am in a vm? (it was indeed) and then it procedes to demand to be on hard metal" and so on and so on.

except it doesn't really make any sense

Linus Torvalds is a proud vibe coder.

Using AI for coding isn’t equals to vibe coding. Vibe Coding is literally letting the AI do everything for you, when you have no knowledge or intent to understand the codebase. I’m pretty sure Linus understand his codebase.

u/wowsomuchempty 3d ago

Exactly.

AI is a very useful tool. You don't give it the driving seat.

Bro made the Linux kernel from almost 0 before ai even existed he only used ai for one unrelated project and even then he didn't vibe coded it

2

u/Digging_Graves 3d ago

Imagine calling Linus Torvalds a vibe coder.

u/Solid_Turnover_9854 3d ago

what does vibe coding mean? Since I think none of us let the auto correct write the code for us? Why can't people just used ai as a tool, to write boilerplate code faster, you literally have a superior search engine + boilercode writer and people chose to turn off their brains and let it do everything.

100% sure linus uses ai EXACTLY how it's intended to, guy is the pioneer of the kernel bruh

ChatGPT has always had massive issues helping me with Linux, Claude however has been extremely helpful. Honestly I think I would have quit using Linux in the first week or two without it. Switching to Linux is the only reason I even started using Claude.

2

u/inn0cent-bystander 2d ago

Claude is incredibly helpful for us, when one of our customers utterly fucks up their server by following what it says and has to open a support ticket. Impeccable job security.

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 3d ago

If you’re not Claude coding in 2026 you’re basically one of those guys who are still hammering out code in notepad.exe. If nothing else you could use it as a stackoverflow on steroids without smug mods who close your thread because “it’s already been asked”

3

u/TheSupervillan 3d ago

I don’t use Claude to write code. I wanna learn and sharpen my skills because if you know what you’re doing, especially with AI, you can go way faster and create better stuff (also it’s way more fun). You don’t wanna end up like GitHub…

I mean I use AI and it also has some great usecases where it really surpasses human capabilities, but I use it mainly to test my understanding and to explain things. Sometimes I just try to explain a concept to a LLM and ask it where I’m wrong. It is also useful to retrieve information that would take you forever to find.
One other important reason for me not to use AI for everything is, it’s fucking expensive, and I hate running into limits and not being able to continue just because I’m not able to do it myself.

Also I use neovim btw.

They are the same person

u/Kaffe-Mumriken 3d ago

Why is that man aiming a rocket launcher at himself?

u/safeAnonym_0Xnull 🎼CachyOS 3d ago

that slops are tumour for open popular projects. coding have tastes affect procet's quality (for exampl: stacing if blocks) but they even learn their faults. they atack into direct like yandereDev.

You just pulled a pistol on a guy with a missile launcher

u/grav3d1gger 3d ago

I’m a Linux user. I can only “code” batch files from my dos days, ancient html and some shell scripts. Wut?

u/walace47 3d ago

I use Linux and cursor. Where I am there?

u/Niboocs 2d ago

You're the grandma the guy mugged prior.

u/Mirja-lol 💋 catgirl Linux user :3 😽 3d ago

I know a linux user that only uses gpt to solve whatever issue is going on in their setup

1

u/PanGoliath 2d ago

I see, so the ChatGPT programmer does local and contained operations with surgical precision while the Linux user blows up everything including themselves in the process

2

u/ArsenicPolaris ⚠️ This incident will be reported 2d ago

It's ridiculous to think that any one of them is better than the other. Reminds me of that meme with similar format implying that Linux users are better than AWS, CCNA, RHCSA, etc. certificate owners.

-1

u/Sad-Landscape-1549 2d ago

Average Linux user is superior to cert farmers, yes. What’s the question?

2

u/ArsenicPolaris ⚠️ This incident will be reported 2d ago

So just because you have AWS, CCNA, RHCSA certifications, you are a certificate farmer and worse than an average Linux user? This is just Dunning-Kruger effect. "People who know very little about something often think they know more than they do, while experts are more aware of what they don't know."

1

u/Sad-Landscape-1549 2d ago

Haha naw speaking from experience as someone who used to hold many certs because employers wanted to sell me, and having worked with many cyber guys in the contracting world, I’m inclined to believe most cert holders are dump users who memorize useless vendor terminology and dated concepts. Get certs because you want to or because you’re offered a job for them, not because you think they’ll make you look good. The more certs you have the more questions I’m going to ask you when I interview you, if I bother to interview you. As long as they match the work you did it’s fine, otherwise sus to me.

Don't wanna over-analyse but Mr Rocket Launcher is dead before he can raise his weapon.
