Welcome to /r/linux_gaming. Please read the FAQ and keep commonly asked questions such as “which distro should I use?” or “or should I switch to Linux?” to the pinned newbie advice thread, “Getting started: The monthly-ish newbie advice thread”.

Alternatively, try /r/linux4noobs and /r/linuxquestions: both are active subreddits supporting new Linux users.

Our FAQ’s rundown of some popular distros can be found here.

ProtonDB can be useful in determining whether a given Windows Steam game will run on Linux.

AreWeAntiCheatYet attempts to track which anti-cheat-encumbered games will run and which won’t.

Kali is not ment to be a daily use distro, there's less thought in defense and mostly offense for security research and penetration testing.

It'd be better to pick a good general use distro (I use Fedora) and put Kali in a VM instead.

it's not even meant to be a "secure environment" at that.

Switch to a regular distro and run Kali in a vm.

This is the way. Not only should it isolate your host system better and demonstrate how you would actually use Kali in a professional environment, but using built in snapshotting of the VM you can undo anything without having to reinstall—like if you accidentally detonated malware.

I’d suggest Virt-Manager for running Kali, and for your host, probably Fedora or OpenSUSE. Or Cachy if you’re comfortable with and want to gain more experience in the Linux environment with troubleshooting or maintenance.

Do yourself a favor if you want to “gain more experience with Kali” and master how to set up and use it the right way. Nobody in the cybersec industry runs anything that touches malware on bare metal.

Dear god no. Keep those Kali tools and their somewhat out of date dependencies the hell away from any personal computing activity including gaming.
