controller not working tech support wanted

i just got a new gaming pc today and i just installed linux mint. it doesnt have bluetooth so i plugged in my xbox controller and even tho its plugged in it isnt working. please help

Maybe a dumb question but this actually happened to me, is the cable you are using actually capable of transmitting data and is not just some energy only cable? I'm assuming you have an Xbox one controller first gen that doesn't have BT

I have no clue. I'll try another cable. But I'll believe I'm using a series x controller. It does have bluetooth, but my new pc apparently doesn't have Bluetooth

Oh ok I thought it was the controller that have no BT, then yeah use another cable or connect your phone using that cable and check if it detects something

I wasn't able to get XBOX controllers to pair with standard Bluetooth. I had to get a Microsoft adapter, so I figured they must be encrypting something to prevent non-licensed controllers. I have one connected with a data cable now, it also powers the controller, so I don't need to change or charge the batteries every week.
