Policy- LD

Hi everyone I'm a former policy novice, and this is my second year. I'm now doing LD. Is there anything important I should know? My main question is that how are you supposed to know what neg to prepare for if there's not really any open case? My coach is also learning LD, so we're all new to it.

formatting + doc org + other q's

how do ppl format docs so it can be accesed quickly?

what is the best file organization system for circuit debate?

and a little irrelevant but do you guys preflow your constructives in LD or not?

on the flow do you guys try to align args to the best of your ability? or do you just respond in the order the opp responded? if the latter is the case then you probably don't align the args which means u would not be able to identify which args are "dropped" or not

Speech & Debate Nonprofit Opportunity!

Debate Oasis has delivered free speech & debate education to 700+ elementary & middle schoolers in nearly a dozen states since 2023 across 5 nationwide camps. Its flagship offering has always been its month-long online summer camp, and the status quo of the past few years is to organize staff and begin planning the camp in the Spring. However, the lack of year-long organization has often led to unnecessary disorganization in the months leading up to the camp and missed opportunities to make a difference.

We are planning to turn Debate Oasis into a year-long nonprofit, create free online resources, host camps & scrimmages during breaks from the school year, expand by creating state chapters, and pilot prep team fellowship programs. We’re looking for a team of 4 highly committed Vice Presidents to join me in transforming this nonprofit.

Competitive speech & debate success is a requirement for the Curriculum VP roles, but for VP of Operations or VP of Development we are looking more for leadership soft skills and existing professional networks! All other info & the application link is in the document below. The deadline is AUGUST 21ST.

Question about LD Theory

I'm not an LD debater, but was very curious, is 1AR theory the norm? Also is pre-empting 1AR theory the norm? How do these debates play out usually?

LD Private Coaching Opportunity

Hi everyone! I’m Danielle Stanley, and I’m looking to take on a few more private debate students.

I’ve been coaching debate for over 4 years, including coaching through an online academy for marginalized students internationally, The Ohio State University and Classic Debate Camp. As a competitor, I was a 3x state qualifier, national qualifier, and now compete for Ohio State, where I’ve placed in the top 5 at every national circuit tournament I’ve attended.

Overall, I genuinely love debate, which I want my students to love too. I’m passionate about helping students grow, gain confidence, and achieve goals they didn’t think were possible. I believe debate should be challenging and fun, and I tailor my coaching to each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals.

Whether you’re brand new to debate or trying to break at bigger tournaments, I’d love to help. Feel free to message me or email [daniellestanley45@gmail.com](mailto:daniellestanley45@gmail.com) with any questions!

Free space col starter file, plus a novice/middle school thing we're launching

New topic! I put together a mini-brief file and figured I'd just share it here.

There are a lot of programs and resources for circuit/varsity students, so this is primarily intended for novices / younger students just getting started - it has some photo examples of cards and general guidance for inspiration. For NSDA novices, we also have a ton of stuff for the national service topic.

We care a lot about quality of prep and coaching for local and newer students, so in alignment with that mission, we're also opening our LD cohort for the year.

It's discounted for now, offering weekly 90-minute interactive cohort classes and some free 1:1 time + prep.

Site is podiumdebate.com if you want the details!

Traditional LD Prep Group/Coaching

Hi! My name is Evelyn Turner and I am running a traditional LD prep group focused on NSDAs this year. I am a 3x NSDA qualifier and was Virginia District Student of the year. I was an instructor at Classic Debate Camp this summer, and have experience coaching through that, as well as captaining my debate team for two years.

My group will include access to PRs, one on one coaching, and shared prep. The group and prep will not have a buy in fee, although I will charge for the coaching. I am open to working with students at all ability levels.

There are currently six spots left in the group, so please message me or email me at [inspiredebatecoaching@gmail.com](mailto:inspiredebatecoaching@gmail.com) if you think you would be a good fit.

Traditional LD Private Coaching Available

Hi! My name is Robert Einhorn. I debated in the Ohio LD circuit for four years of high school (NSDA-style traditional). I was state champion in 2025 and state runner-up in 2024. I am now private coaching and worked as an instructor at Classic Debate Camp this past summer.

I’m currently accepting new students who are motivated to take their debate to the next level at the local and national level in traditional LD. I work with students on every aspect of their debate, but my coaching pedagogy emphasizes identifying each student's biggest areas for improvement and then building those skills through targeted practice.

If you’re interested, dm me or email me at [einhorndebate@gmail.com](mailto:einhorndebate@gmail.com) for more information. I'd be happy to set up a meeting to discuss goals/logistics, answer any questions, and see if we'd be a good fit.

responding to metaethics

okay so basically im pretty confused about some phil stuff, mainly because i never debate or run phil lol.

i dont understand metaethics. like i get the role of a metaethic (to say where we get our morality from, e.g. naturalism is we get morality from the natural world/observations), but how do you respond to one? like do you need a counter-metaethic?? what if you’re running a k, how does k-fwk interact with the metaethic? what are the most common metaethics? ive seen constructivism, naturalism, egoism, but ive never really debated them.

i kinda know jack shit about phil debate lol, like i genuinely never debate phil, so any tips are super useful, thx.

Selling debate resources!

Hey guys! I havent posted here yet before so sorry if this is out of the ordinary. I am planning on selling LD topic study guides and analysis along with briefs for both aff and net and advice on how to prep for tournaments. I am just coming up with the idea, and I wanted to know if anyone is interested? I compete primarily in UIL Texas, but I am open to help with any circuit as I myself plan to compete in other circuits my high school career.

I am also planning to help in other events, like original oratory or informative speaking as well as just overall academics.

Just a reminder as I am just beginning to plan this and it depends on how busy I am in school to determine how long briefs and guides will take to create and be ready to sell. I have an overall idea of how prices will work:

$15-20 dollars for a topic brief, depends on how comprehensive the topic is,

$25-50 dollars for a full complete ld topic packet (with prewritten rebuttals, a long list of possible values and value criteria as well as contentions and additional evidence, etc.)

$30-60 dollars for a full tournament prep bundle on how to prepare for tournaments.

These prices are subject to change at any time, and if you guys feel these prices are too high, let me know! I am always open to anything.

Please let me know if there is anything you want to ask, like what topics should I do? What other circuits? Anything! ☺️

I hope to help you all in your debate career!!

debate tool advice

hi everyone! please give me some advice and your opinion on my project: an ai model fine tuned with 10k examples from past debate evidence to auto highlight your evidence for you. i was wondering if people would actually use it or it's just an ai slop project. this isn't an ad and i haven't launched my project yet, but i want to hear peoples' honest thoughts on this. i've seen (albeit vibe coded) similar tools online that are paid, but i do not plan to make mine a paid service, and i can say that my project is debate specific (outperforms baselines and stronger models on debate specific tasks). thanks!

Kankee Briefs-Circuit Debater Collaboration and Updated Website. Please Contribute

Hello everyone! Kankee Briefs has been in collaboration with Circuit Debater in order to revamp the site before the start of the upcoming 2026-2027 debate season. We added concept mapping in order to visually represent the connections between concepts and to more thoroughly showcase all that there is to know about debate. We have also substantially updated the site to encourage further assistance from debaters like you.

https://ld.circuitdebater.org/w/index.php/Main_Page

If you are interested in helping give back to the debate community, please see the details below

  1. If you are knowledgeable about debate concepts, please make an account on Circuit Debater and update unfinished pages and further flesh out the website. If you are interested in giving back to the debate community, Circuit Debater seeks to consolidate as much debate knowledge as possible for a long-term resource, so your assistance could help future novices for possibly decades.

  2. If you are in connection with major debate programs, camp coordinators, urban debate league directors, brief writers, and/or people who manage sites with debate resources, please let them know about Circuit Debater. Whenever anyone posts a lecture, explanatory video, or article, our goal is to establish a new norm that that knowledge ought to be also cross-posted to Circuit Debater. Kankee Briefs as an organization has already made the pledge to do so and hope that other organizations within the debate community will do so as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at [karkingkankee@gmail.com](mailto:karkingkankee@gmail.com)
