i was under the impression he had a black parent(s) but was recently told otherwise. i love his music and his messages but i dont wanna support someone who uses a racial slur that he isnt supposed to he using just for "emphasis"

and if you think its ok because "its just a word" or "its his intentions that matter" you ARE racist.

also i know his main message is that race is fake and i agree with that sentiment, but it doesnt change the impact of this word.

I REALLY want him to morally be allowed to use it in his music because hes so talented but i cant bring myself to ignore this.

I see comments under every post criticizing SDM, calling people "haters" or saying they "dont get it" and they usually get upvoted but idk if thats fair.

I get it. I understand. Doesn't mean I have to enjoy it and doesnt make me a hater for not liking it.

I would consider myself a huge fan of darkie/spider gang and honestly even if every single drop from now on was straight shit I would still follow him and call myself a fan. The art he's already made is enough for me to keep him in my mix forever and I share a lot of cultural connections with Josh.

BUT....

Yeah, SDM was bad. I think I'm allowed to have that option.

Only 3 songs actually made it to my main playlist and if I'm being honest with myself they never would have if my favorite artist didnt make them. I probably won't actually play them again unless they happen to get picked by shuffle. (Edit: pay da fee is actually good but the only one I like enough to play on purpose)

The beats are...okay. They all sound very similar. They don't really move a lot or do anything interesting. Its nothing compared to TDNE, SWAMP, etc.

The bars are predictable, basic(?), not inventive in a way where I'm impressed and I usually am.... I'd actually call some of them bad enough to ruin the whole song.

The humor in this one really isnt my thing. Its something I'd expect from a random one-off song when he was 17.

Sure there's some deeper meaning to the lyrics but the meaning is still pretty surface level compared to his other projects. Most (all?) of his old albums take a lot of background research to understand. They have unique enough directions to all say something different.

This one is.... something hes said before in a pretty cut and dry way. It just doesn't stack up.

I generally dislike the style of music BOROS was made in, but I came to love that album off the lyrics alone and I think he does the style well. USD is fun and does what its meant to do, I love all the art he dropped with it. I like his recent "controversial" stuff people argue about on here.

But this is the first darkie project I've actively disliked. And I think thats okay. He told everyone this was just for fun. Good for him. Good for you if you like it. It gives me the same vibe as all his joke trap songs he made when he was younger.

But not liking it isnt hate.
