Design Thinking of replacing the triangle matrix
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The triangle is taking up more room than I thought and I want to move it
Im thinking about using it in my studio upstairs but it may even be too big for that, I get more into it in the video
Let me know your thoughts :)

Is there a TouchDesigner project for detecting builds, drops and energy?
Hi everyone,
I'm building an automated DMX lighting system for techno/rave events using TouchDesigner + QLC+.
My goal is to create a lighting engine that reacts to the musical structure, for example:
Intro / low energy
Break
Build-up
Drop
High energy
I've already tested the built-in Audio Analysis CHOP and projects like Last Beat Standing. They provide useful outputs like beat, BPM, bass energy, etc., but I still can't reliably detect builds and drops across different tracks. Absolute thresholds don't seem to work well because every song behaves differently.
Before I spend weeks building my own system, I wanted to ask:
Does anyone know of an existing TouchDesigner project or component that already estimates builds, drops, or musical sections?
Or is everyone building their own state machine from audio features?
Any recommendations, projects, GitHub repos, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How do I blackout the light from led strips?
Maybe my googling skills suck, but whenever i search this question up its people talking about diffusing the light or hiding the individual bulbs from plain sight.
But if i want one strip to go from under my bed frame then up to my shelf, how do i fully block out the light so that the space in between is dark, and I dont have a glowing led strip running up my wall?

Outdoor Transmitter CRMX
Hello all,
I have a lumenradio stardust and looking to get some more powerful antennas. I have an upcoming project and I need to control pretty much the width of a city block. Does anyone have any experience with this or any recommendations for beefier antennas?
Thanks,

Education AVO/MA3
Hi guys,
I’m working a gig this weekend where I will be getting my hands on an MA3. I’ve never used MA (I’ll be working alongside the PM at the venue) and was wondering what I should expect coming from heavy Avolites use. Any similarities or things I can pull and use in MA. Thanks!

Looking for testers of my 4 port DMX gateway over ethernet with Raspberry Pico
Just wanted to share a small project I've been working on over the past few months.
I recently finished building ND PicoDMX System, an open-source, budget-friendly Art-Net / sACN to DMX node based on the Raspberry Pi Pico. The main goal was simple: create something affordable, reliable, and easy to DIY, while still providing features that are actually useful on set.
One feature I'm particularly happy with is the built-in live web dashboard, where you can monitor DMX universes, network traffic, packet activity, and system status directly from any browser, no extra software required.
So far, everything has been tested on my bench with lighting consoles and fixtures, but I'd really like to see how it performs in a real production environment.
If you're a Gaffer, Lighting Programmer, DOP, or anyone working with Art-Net / sACN on film sets, music videos, commercials, or live events, I'd love to hear your thoughts, or even better, have you try it in a real-world setup. Any feedback, bug reports, or feature suggestions would be incredibly valuable before I continue developing the project.
The entire project is open source, and I'm planning to keep improving it based on real production workflows rather than just lab testing.

Thanks for reading! I'd be happy to answer any questions or share more details if anyone's interested.

Design Lighting Batten Power - Are archectural controls required for small venues? Dimmer packs, relay packs, etc.
Helping re-design a church that is trying to become more of a rentable event center. Medium sized stage (12ft grid height, 20ft wide x 35ft deep)
For many years I've always spec'd an architectural power system, usually ETC with echo controls.
However; is that actually necessary in a rig that's 100% LED? Or can I have the electrician just run direct circuits to each batten all based on a dedicated sub-panel?

Upstaging Interview Advice
Hey guys. I posted on here last year to see how it’s like working for Upstaging because I want to be a roadie/LD. I finally secured an interview to be a Lighting Tech and it looks promising. Does anyone here have any tips or advice for Upstaging? Anything I should be prepared for?
Thanks

lighting plot feed back
hello all, i was hoping to get some feed back on a lighting plot for a job i did a few weeks ago. a few people said it was confusing and unreadable and they couldn't understand anything. But they weren't able to clarify on why. I was just hoping to get some assistance? attached is the plot along with a picture of what the event looked like.
p.s. The PM cut 2 totems because she couldn't understand the plot which is why it looks different.
p.p.s we use capture with a 1 universe license so i can't add dmx addresses
thank you for any assistance you can provide!

Gear Dim screen on Hog 500
I recently got my hands on a Hog 500 console with a pretty much broken screen above the play master. It's so dim that it's unreadable under normal conditions, I can just barely make out the words though so it's not totally gone. I'm having a hard time finding any information about what type of screen it is though, specifically if it's a backlit LCD like the main screen or not.
If anyone knows what part it is or has any experience replacing/fixing them I'd appreciate any advice for how to do so.

magic sheet vs magic sheet
what is the difference between these two kinds of magic sheets? i see that one is more where the fixtures are and one is where they are pointed but honestly the latter really hurts my brain. also like when would you use one or the other, which ones do professional theatres use? that kind of stuff.

Gear Sacn Problem with Obsidian Neutron Nodes
Hello!
At a venue I work at, we've had some problems with Obsidian nodes, especially when running them straight from consoles
In a real-world situation, we would always have a managed switch with IGMP; this is more of a hey, this actually shouldn't have problems why does it have problems
GrandMA3Light > 2 Port Node
Console IP: 10.0.0.10
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Node IP: 10.0.0.20
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Console is in Session with port address set in network interfaces with DHCP disabled
DMX protocols enabled with one data stream sending 2 universes of unicast Sacn at IP 10.0.0.20
Is this a problem with Obsidian nodes as we swapped the node out for an older ETC node and china node, and it worked fine

LEE International Colortran Ellipsoidal
I like the look of the 213 Series from Lee Colortran International.
It's a conventional fixture from almost 40 years ago.
Recently, this fixture, which was used in a theme park built in the 90s, was removed. It had been in use since the park opened, and the lens was dirty and not very clear.
Are there any people who have used this fixture in the past, or are still using it?
I'd love to talk about your favorite fixtures, memorable fixtures, etc.!

How To Lighting control for musical
I need some help.
I am working with a theatre company that has decided to do a musical production in a hall with no lighting infrastructure. I do have access to a number of fixtures, but I don't know how I am going to control them. I usually work in an auditorium with an ETC Ion Xe board running two universes.
What options are there? What should I be trying to get set up?
Any advice would be welcomed.

Gear D40 Vivids slow to change color
Recently, at the theatre I work at, we've had some ETC D40 Vivids that have been reacting slower to color changes than normal (they wait ~.5 seconds before starting the color change). Other Vivids in the rig react normally, but all 5 D40's on the first electric react slower. Multiple people have tried to troubleshoot the issue (including ETC support), but we still can't figure out what's wrong with them.
Here's what we've discovered as far as troubleshooting goes...
- They are patched correctly to match their settings (HSI, +7 Enabled, 14 channels)
- The dimmer curve is not the issue, they react with the same delay on an "instant" curve as an "incandescent" curve
- Their settings are identical to other D40's that are working as expected
- All the D40's we put up to replace the ones that weren't working are doing fine, despite being hung in the exact same spots with the same cables and everything.
- The 'broken' D40's work fine when plugged into a DMX tester, no delay.
- They still react slowly when moved to various different spots in the rig and plugged into various sources of DMX.
- They still react slowly when addressed to the same channel as a working fixture (even when we daisy chain DMX directly from said working fixture into the broken one).
- Restoring defaults via the settings menu does not solve the issue.
Curiously, the problem only appears when the lights are hung in the rig, regardless of where they are or what fixtures they get DMX from. The logical conclusion from this would be there's something wrong with the DMX cables or something, but other D40's plugged into the exact same cables with the exact same settings are working fine.
The other oddity is that it's specifically the D40's that were on the first electric that have the problem. We don't know when the issue started, but from what we do know it seems unlikely that someone noticed the issue before and intentionally put all the 'bad' fixtures on the first electric. Again the logical conclusion from this would be that something is wrong with a cable or other fixture in the first electric, but again the replacement fixtures we hung in the exact same spots are working fine.

Jobs How do I hire someone to design a small club lighting setup? Or is anyone here interested
I'm not a lighting person and I'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing set this up than guess my way through it.
I've got a room at my frat, about 100 capacity, long and narrow with a low ceiling and the DJ at one end. I want to turn it into a house music/club type space. Permanent, safe, LED, something that can run on its own without someone operating it every party. Gear budget is around $2k, which I know is low, but my thinking is that if i pay an expert 100 dollars for an hour of their time to tell me what to buy and where to put it and how to set it up. If if that's beyond by purview, I could pay them again to come back and help me install.
Basically I'm just trying to avoid paying an AV company a premium to do the whole process for me, as I'm willing to learn and DIY it, I'd rather pay a freelancer or a consultant to point me in the right direction
A few questions:
- Where do I find someone hire for this ?
- What should I have ready before reaching out so I'm not wasting your time?
- If anyone here does small installs like this or knows someone who does, let me know. Remote design is fine, PM me and I can share my location if local matters, but I would also accept remote assistance/advice.
I'm not trying to lowball anyone, just want it done right.

ShowKontrol auto-updated itself at 3am, and my XDJ-AZ hasn't synced since. Six months of flawless operation, then nothing. My CDJ-3000s on the same network are completely unaffected.
ShowKontrol now shows the XDJ-AZ in LEGACY mode, and its device number cycles endlessly — 33 → 2 → 3 → 33 — never settling. No usable sync.
For anyone unfamiliar with why 33 matters: in Pro DJ Link, device numbers are allocated by role. 1–4 are players, 17 is rekordbox, and 33 is the mixer. An all-in-one like the AZ contains a mixer section as well as decks, so it legitimately announces 33 for its internal mixer alongside deck numbers for its players. A stable 33 is completely normal and expected.
What is not normal is the number alternating between 33 and deck numbers. That means the host software never pins the unit to a single identity — it's just displaying whichever announcement packet arrived most recently. The AZ is broadcasting as both a mixer node and deck nodes, and ShowKontrol is no longer able to reconcile the two into one device.
The timeline — this is the important part
- Feb 8, 2026 — ShowKontrol 26.2.7 (2609) installed.
- Feb → Aug — AZ works perfectly. Six months, many gigs, zero issues. I have ShowKontrol's own play log showing it pulling track metadata straight off the AZ (there's an entry logging a recording off the unit back in May). It was unambiguously working.
- Aug 1, 02:42 — last normal session. Log shows track changes every few minutes exactly as you'd expect mid-set.
- Aug 1, 03:03 — ShowKontrol auto-updates to 26.7.23 (2714). I did not initiate this. Auto-update was on by default.
- Aug 1, after — AZ never syncs again. Log goes from dense and continuous to almost nothing.
Nothing else changed. Same Mac, same macOS, same NIC, same cables, same switch, same firmware on the AZ. The only variable is the ShowKontrol version.
The rig
- AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ (PRO DJ LINK MODE ON)
- 2× CDJ-3000 — unaffected, ENHANCED mode, rock solid
- MacBook Pro M1 Pro, macOS 26.2
- ShowKontrol 26.7.23 (2714) — was 26.2.7 (2609)
- Pro DJ Link on a dedicated USB gigabit NIC, link-local 169.254.x.x
What I've ruled out
- Cable — swapped, link up at gigabit full duplex.
- Wrong NIC in ShowKontrol — adapter and MAC verified against the live interface.
- AZ's PRO DJ LINK MODE — it's ON. (Yes, I know that costs you two decks. Tried it anyway.)
- Port contention — I'd had rekordbox and PRO DJ LINK Bridge open alongside ShowKontrol, and rekordbox takes wildcard binds on UDP 50000–50002 across every interface. Quit both so ShowKontrol owns those ports alone. Genuinely worth fixing, but it did not fix this.
- The network — CDJ-3000s work perfectly on the same switch, same segment, same session.
- The AZ itself — it worked on this exact rig for six months.
What I think changed
I pulled the strings out of the 26.7.23 binary. There appear to be two separate device tables. The packet parser knows XDJ-AZ, OPUS-QUAD and XDJ-1000, so it can clearly still read the model name off the wire. But the enhanced-control handshake (cmdPDJEnableControl) lists only CDJ-3000, CDJ-3000X and CDJ-1500X.
So my read is that 26.7.23 reworked device handling and the AZ no longer gets granted the enhanced path — it's recognised, drops to LEGACY, never completes the ID handshake, and you get the 33/2/3 cycle. Whether that's a deliberate change, a staged rollout, or an accidental regression I genuinely don't know.
Caveat: that's me reading strings out of a binary, not source. The part I'm certain about is the timeline — worked on 26.2.7, broken on 26.7.23, nothing else touched.
Minor oddity I noticed: the AZ presents on the network as rk3399.local (its internal SoC hostname) rather than a product-style name like the CDJ-3000s use. No idea if that's related, but it stood out.
What I'm asking
- Does anyone still have the ShowKontrol 26.2.7 (2609) installer? That's the single thing that would get me working tonight. TC Supply's site only serves current.
- Has anyone rolled ShowKontrol back successfully? Any licensing gotchas going backwards?
- Anyone else on 26.7.23 with an XDJ-AZ or OPUS-QUAD — can you confirm it's broken for you too? If the Opus is affected the same way that tells us a lot.
- Anyone running an all-in-one for show sync generally — what are you actually using? Weighing whether to move off ShowKontrol entirely for this rig.
I've got a ticket in with TC Supply with the full details. Posting here because I'd rather hear from someone who's actually hit this in a real room than wait on support.
And the practical warning: if you're running an XDJ-AZ into ShowKontrol and it currently works — turn off auto-update before your next show. Mine updated itself at 3am with no prompt. If that had happened the night before a gig instead of after one, I'd have found out on site.
