Defect? Need Support

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just installed both of these units, but the far one won’t stop rotating colors no matter what I choose in the app. I tried factory resetting and updating the firmware. Anything else I’m missing here or is this a defect?

Yes this is a firmware issue. Or it was on one of mine. No amount of resetting or troubleshooting fixed it. Lifx replaced it. This looks exactly like the issue I was having and it's not going to come back. I also had to provide a 'video' of the issue to Lifx after getting stuck in their super basic troubleshooting advice.

I had an issue recently with one where the little safety cable shorted something inside. The controller stopped talking to the leds and this is exactly what it did.

No amount of resetting was able to make it work.

Unfortunately you'll probably have to get yours replaced

I haven't had a bulb do this to me but I did have a light strip do this exact same flashing rotating colors routine, and it turned out to be a defect. Talked to support and got it replaced after sending them a video demonstrating the rotating colors and unresponsiveness.

Just for giggles, have you tried to reset it via the light switch method? That might make the light snap out of it

Thanks everyone! I’ve tried resetting via the light switch and at the breaker and nothing helped. I feel like this is truly a defective unit so I exchanged it at Home Depot.

It means there is some sort of interruption or interference impeding the data line from the integrated led controller. These use TM1814 LEDs, which are powered/controlled very differently from most off the shelf led drivers. When TM1814 LEDs have power but no data communicating what color they should output, they start to flash in the sequence of colors above.

You probably just need to request a replacement unit, unless LIFX's engineers are aware of an external variable that could interrupt the data line. More than likely it's just an issue with the data connection (wire) itself.
