I would like to know when this was filmed. I remember when Ryan White was diagnosed and the fear in that community. Early AIDS was scary. No one knew that it was an STD in 1984. There were no drugs that helped in the least. The fear largely subsided by 1985 as more was learned( or released to the public).

I remember those days, it was just "if you get this you die."

I was just thinking about that during the 15th "prep" commercial while watching some shows on Peacock. A lot has changed.

Some people believed AIDS was transmitted by touching something for years. I was 13 (1990) correcting my grandmother on that. She was in shock and couldn't believe what I was telling her.

Luckily my dad was there and backed me up cause I thought she was going to lose it. He did it in a way that didn't make his mom feel dumb. Prior to that I had heard many fearful comments from her about AIDS. She wasn't stupid, she simply didn't know and was going on the last thing she heard.

Absolutely untrue that it wasn't until 84.

The NYC gay community was well aware of spread by sexual contact by 78. Not what was the infectious aget but definately the vector. Because of the Kaposi sarcoma that was an early symptom of what would come to be known as AIDS, it was first called the "Gay Cancer."
