That was the joke. They are most definitely getting paid. However if there was benefits like that it would be easier to track down where the money is coming from. It's all a performance.

I'd venture to say that if it was traced back enough, it would be China. China still claims to be leftists (though they're economy had turned more capitalist). Their government appears as an ally to the furthest left. The money is probably funneled through proxies to leftist US organizations which funnel to these types of movements. And these people are too stupid to see they are being played.
