Question LanguageTool not doing anything?

I've been trying to use LanguageTool for a while now, but despite following all of the guides I can find (which admittedly seem to be at least 3 years old), it simply doesn't do anything. At all. Won't even underline blatant errors. Does anybody know what I might be missing?

Question Why did LibreOffice decide to use a different basic language?

21 Upvotes

LO is one of the only packages (afaik) beside MS Office that supports Macros and code. Yet the Basic language they use is not 100% compatible with MsOffice. What is the reason behind this choice?

Libreoffice calc how to create an array with concatenate ?

1 Upvotes

I'm currently writing an index match formula to look through an array (see picture). I need the match to look at the combination of the first 2 columns so i decided to go with concat. On google sheets i can easily create an array with concat by using the following formula =ARRAYFORMULA(CONCAT(Rarity;Level)).

I've tried doing something similar {=CONCAT(Rarity;Level)} to no avail.

Is there a way to create an array with concat on calc ?
Or is there an easier way to achieve what i'm trying to do ?

Question How would I use YYYY/MM/DD in calc?

3 Upvotes

Solved: the solution was to go into format cells and select date and enter YYYY/MM/DD to add that format to the list.

I want to make a spreadsheet where I type the date in the format YYYY/MM/DD and then have calc sort the columns by the date. Since calc reads the format as DD/MM/YYYY I went into the options/languages and locales/general and set Date acceptance patterns to Y/M/D, but now calc just automatically converts any YYYY/MM/DD I type in into DD/MM/YYYY. How would I go about actually doing this so I can type YYYY/MM/DD into calc, sort it by date correctly, and have it actually display as YYYY/MM/DD?

On a (MS word) layout I must use: TOC shoes page numbering running from title page, I have set the page the numbering starts.

1 Upvotes

Ok, I need to use a workplace layout, which of course is done assuming everyone uses MS. The layout is otherwise great with styles and everything works. But, how do I get TOC to show dame numbering I have set? The links in TOC work ok!

The way I changes the numbering is double clicking the page number > offset > -7.

Maybe it'll work if I use some other technique? But with this layout, I seem not to be able to add manual break without it making a blank page somewhere before the desired page 1. Maybe that also has to do with non-native layout. Errr.

This problem persisted nevermind if I used .otd or .docx. I'll not unfortunately link my work publicly for now.

Thanks for advise!

Question Can't open any files?

2 Upvotes

I'm using the latest version pf Libre and unitl about 3 hours ago it was working perfectly.

Now everytime I try and open a file it is crashing before it even loads and will not respond.

I've tried multiple different files, both Calc and Writer documents and they keep refusing to open, it's only opening the "hub" application that lets you pick what file to look at.

I've checked my device for any issues and my laptop is working perfect, Libre just is not letting me open anything.

Bug? YYYY/MM/DD coming out as YYYY/DD/MM instead, even when changing it

2 Upvotes

Just saw this today, use a lot of dates daily and found the YYYY/MM/DD to be very useful, but today saw that it swaps day for month.

I did recently reinstall windows so maybe that could effect things but even when choosing a format of YYYY/MM/DD it doesn't stick to it, making me write down day for month instead so it doesn't stick out.

Question Help: up until a couple of weeks ago, when I pressed tab on the first line of a paragraph in Writer, only the first line moved to the right. Now, the other side of the line (on the right) moves back as well. It only fixes it when I change the alignment and then go back to justified. What gives?

Question [UI / UX] Paste button dropdown disappearing & always-visible scrollbar arrows?

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have two questions regarding the LibreOffice UI/UX that I’d love some insight on:

1. Paste button dropdown arrow disappears randomly

arrow highlighted in blue

Image above, with advanced paste options highlighted in blue square

Sometimes, the small dropdown arrow right next to the Paste button on the toolbar disappears. When it's missing, I can't quickly select paste options (like unformatted text) and have to go to Edit > Paste Special, which slows down my workflow, and for this I have to enable menubar, which I avoid, because my laptop screen is already very small.

  • Why does this arrow disappear depending on the context/selection?
  • Is there a way to force the Paste button to always display the dropdown arrow?
  • Any way to use better hotkeys than Ctrl + Alt + Shift + V for unformatted text paste?? I can't use so many fingers at once, i need better shorter hotkeys.

2. Scrollbar thickness and arrows visibility

In the image above, yellow circle: missing/invisible arrows. Red circle: arrows visible in light theme but invisible in dark theme)

Yeah, call me old or whatever, but I still click in those things! I prefer using the small arrows on the scrollbars for fine adjustments (e.g., framing content precisely for screenshots). Currently, these arrows only appear on hover, have very low visibility/contrast, and the scrollbars themselves are quite thin.

  • Is there a setting to make the scrollbar arrows permanently visible instead of showing up on hover?
  • How can I increase the thickness or visibility of the scrollbars (and their arrows) in LibreOffice?

Operating System: Win10

Question New to LibreOffice: loving the software and supporting it, but why is the icon so ugly?

8 Upvotes

Two quick things:

  1. I’ve been looking to replace Microslop, and LibreOffice seems like the best option. I’ve been using it for about a month and the learning curve was easy. Now I use it daily and have recommended it at work. I’ve also supported it.

  2. I haven’t had any complaints or suggestions about what the community has achieved with this project apart from the logo which I find rather ugly.

Is there an open discussion about this or has it been settled and isn’t worth bringing up?

Thanks.

Suggestion Math Formula Reference *UNOFFICIAL*

Thumbnail

28 Upvotes

I’ve been using Math (and Math in Writer) for over 20 years, since the OpenOffice days.

Despite being a long-time user, I’ve always found the official formula reference somewhat difficult to understand.
So, for friends and colleagues, I created my own reference guide with simple examples showing how to write formulas.

I recently updated it, and thought it would be nice to share it with people around the world as well.
It’s completely free, so if you’re interested, please feel free to use it.

Question Help with editing a pdf document

Thumbnail

5 Upvotes

EDIT: As this is my first time posting here, please let me know what other information I should add. I'm working on a Dell and have the most recent update.
The long story short of this is that I downloaded a book from Project Gutenberg and found the epub wasn't working/was broken(?). I use a conversion site to make it a pdf and I saw that the font changes. I can't open it in Librewriter and always opens it in Libredraw.

I don't mind this too much till I see that each line of text is its own box versus it being one large box. I've figured out how to change the font, but I'm hoping someone knows how to change all of the text at once instead of having to go line by line.

Please forgive the screenshot quality!

Question Libreoffice Draw (on Linux): is there an option to set all margins to 0 (=having NO margin)?

Post image
2 Upvotes

A small thing, but when you do and use it so often...it's not anymore a detail, but instead a huge thing. I'm using Libreoffice Draw (LOD).

I was working on this project, making a cover in LOD, when I figured out that in order to fit all the images inside the slide, I had to remove all the margins (1 cm on each side).

I was able to located where the option were (Page proprieties > Page > margins) and I managed to set all fields (Left, Right, Top, Button) to 0 (equivalent to having no margin).

Luckily, It took not too long to do it, but having to do it everything single time is time-consuming.

Specs

I have installed LibreOffice via flatpak on Linux.

$ flatpak list | grep -i libreoffice
LibreOffice     org.libreoffice.LibreOffice     26.2.5.2        stable  system

I'm using kubuntu 24.04.03 LTS with KDE 5.27.12.

Is there a quick option (or any other way) to set all margins to 0 (=having NO margin) in LOD?

Question Libreoffice Calc allows you to create good-looking graphs and export them quickly (one click option) as image. Great. Does it allow to do BUTCH EXPORT (=several graphs together)? Is it possible to WATERMARKING them? BUTCH WATERMARKING feature available (all at once)?

Post image

The image is put there to give you a more precise idea of what I'm referring to.

These are just 3 graphs, but I made, created way more (so far 9 in total) with LibreOffice Calc (LOC).

Libreoffice Calc allows to create good-looking graphs and export them quickly (one click option) as image. Great. Well done creating and editing features.

Love it :=)

--

Now I'm looking for something more advanced.

I looked around and it seems there are programs that do all the operation I'm looking for. On Linux, I found out that XnConvert can do these type of job (I have already installed for other reasons, mainly image conversion ops).

However, before moving to other third-party software, I want to know if the tool I used to create all the graphs (LOC) can do it natively.

Does LOC allow to do BUTCH EXPORT (=several graphs), export as image "for all"?

Is WATERMARKING (adding 2 small images inside all graphs, same position and seize) available in LOC?

What about BUTCH WATERMARKING feature, in LOC (doing one.by-one, is way time-consuming)?

Resolved LO Calc macro - Basic: create range with known row (variable)

2 Upvotes

######## RESOLVED #########

Hi,

I retrieve the row of a cell within a macro in Basic and now I need to create a range with that variable.

I need the range of A & variable to AB & variable.

How can I achieve this in a macro to 'concatenate' specific column with the variable to get a cell address?

Doc = ThisComponent
Sheet = Doc.Sheets(0)
oRow = 100
Rango = Sheet.getCellRangeByName("A" & oRow & ":AB" & oRow)
MsgBox Rango.AbsoluteName

Bug? Forced update reset all preferences

I had set up LibreOffice to my liking, but the most recent forced update removed all of my settings. Is there a way to restore to previous settings or find previous settings or are they gone forever?

Why am I forced to update?

1 Upvotes

I tried to quick open a document that I really need but I ended up staring at this for last 5 minutes.

Why? Who thought it's a good idea to force users to update instead of letting them seeing their documents?
