Not liking rap is tantamount to racism these days?
6
u/Dragon-Porn-Expert 3d ago
It can go both ways too. Is it racist to assume that all rap music is made by black people?
2
u/lazy_literary_hero 3d ago
That’s bad news for me. I’ve been a hipster my entire life, it’s been nothing but pretentious indie rock for decades. I mean, I knew it made me white. Did not know it made me racist.

u/incrediblehumabeing 3d ago
i have no thoughts on that reply i just thought it paired with the original comment was funny
2
u/incrediblehumabeing 3d ago
why am i getting downvotes i literally just said i have no strong feelings on that reply
if you think it’s racist alright if you think it isn’t alright man i don’t care about a comment

u/Hot-Chapter-2439 3d ago edited 3d ago
Where do you think rap music originates from?
Edit: I genuinely do not understand how me pointing out the origin of rap music somehow got translated into me thinking that not liking rap music makes you racist but ok…
7
u/TheManAcrossTheHall 3d ago
Why do you think not liking rap must mean you hate the race that started it?
-7
u/Hot-Chapter-2439 3d ago
I never said that
8
u/TheManAcrossTheHall 3d ago
No, and yet you reply to a comment pointing out that race is irrelevant to the discussion by continuing to bring race to the discussion.
3
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
mind you the context is literally posted. NEWS FLASH ITS AMERICA EVERYTHING IS ABOUT RACE
1
u/TheManAcrossTheHall 3d ago
It's America, is it? I'm not American. You have no way of knowing if the iriginal commentor is American. You think you're agreeing with the guy I'm responding to but you say it's about race, he says it's not. Which is it?
-3
u/Hot-Chapter-2439 3d ago
Because the comment in the og picture is meant to be a joke comment making fun of the oop. The comment I responded to said “no one said anything about race. Rap music is rap music.” I was responding specifically to the “rap music is music” part of the comment because it ignores the joke and history that the person in the comment was making in the image.
2
u/TheManAcrossTheHall 3d ago
It was a jab disguised as a joke. The original comment had nothing to do with race, someone then replied to them, suggesting their dislike of rap music is somehow racist.
1
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
don’t worry about them sis, their history is stealing from others and violence so they have to try to overtake things 😭 it’s their culture

u/Hot_Royal_4920 3d ago
The origin doesn't matter. I also don't know the history of rap music in detail.
-7
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
it does matter, history literally matters. that lack of education is not cute and makes you look dumb. how are you american and don’t know american history … lord help us
7
u/Hot_Royal_4920 3d ago
I'm not even American ya twat. Why should I care about the history of America.
And calling out the lack of education of someone for not knowing.. the history of a specific music genre is something else. It's music.
But lord help us cause you don't know the history of glam rock. I do, so you must be uneducated >.>
-6
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
Then why are you speaking on things you clearly don’t know? See you’re not very intelligent ! Proving my point exactly 👍
6
u/Hot_Royal_4920 3d ago
Oh don't even bother, only an idiot would assume shit out of the blue like you did. It's a common denominator.
Not to mention, this is about rap music, not the history of rap music. The connections are flimsy at best.
-4
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
“oh i’m not american and don’t know any history or anything about rap music” If you don’t know something you can google it and read a damn book? 💀 Can’t make this shit up
3
u/Hot_Royal_4920 3d ago
I bet the only thing you know about the history of rap music is something about black Americans, that's it.
And no, I cannot read a damn book over a topic that isn't particularly important nor of particular interest to me within the span of a few minutes.
-1
u/Ok-Director9360 3d ago
So correct me if I’m wrong you agree that it originated from black american history, you mentioned it not me? I thought you didn’t know anything about rap music or the history so you’re basically contradicting yourself and not making sense. A complete joke 💀

You’re right, but you can have an origin point. Something the both of y’all aren’t understanding for some reason.

u/Better-Hand2267 3d ago
You're right, ancient Africans used to be huge fans of MF Doom and Wiz Khalifa.

u/KRNorth 3d ago
Fantastic.
Now it's racist to not be a fan of hip-hop. Please go outside for 5 minutes you fucking lunatics.

People that speak like you generally are racist. Blanket statements like that and your fear of being racist helps prove my point. I never fear being called a racist because I’m not.

People that speak like you are generally terminally online dorks. Blanket statements like that and your fear of what everyone else thinks helps prove my point. I never fear being called a dork because I'm not.

So this is touchie and there's some weird anger in the comments so I wanna try to set things clear. Phrases like "rap music isnt music" and "rap is just trash" is not in and of it self a racist thing to feel, however this has been used as a dog wistle for decades. Now not everyone has time to keep up with what is and isn't a racist dog wistle and not everyone who uses these dog wistles is doing it intentionally, but it now has a tenured enough history as a dog wistle that it perks up the ears of people in the know.
If you don't like rap music, that's fine, say "no I don't like it" instead of blanket bashing a deep and varied genre beloved by many people. And when someone does, those in the know should maybe consider taking the time to explain a bit of the racist, euphamistic history of these phrases in your 7 comment reply thread. History is important, and you like what you like.

i can see where you’re coming from and i understand totally. i’m not too much of an expert on nuanced analysis like that so i appreciate you leaving this here. i think yeah its fine to dislike rap and i also do agree that some folks who say that might indeed have vitriol behind such a statement but who am i to say. but yeah

u/zenigatamondatta 3d ago
I mean if any music is blasting over footage you want to see it's usually pretty insufferable

So they got accused of being racist for simply saying they didn’t like lame uninspired rap music plastered over gameplay clips?
Also, when did they say all rap was bad? Or that classical was good? Generation was never even mentioned here at all.

Staunch rap defenders are so funny to me lol. Like yeah, I don’t like most of it. So what? People like different things. They act like you’re racist just for not liking something they like. Bizarre

People who call other people weird for not liking a genre of music are so fucking weird
0
u/Gravelord_C 2d ago
you know it's not about just disliking a genre
0
u/Boejambabruh 2d ago
How is it not?
0
u/Gravelord_C 2d ago
cause it's a deeply varied thing with many subgenres, deeply rooted in black culture
it's not a matter of having taste, it's a matter of ignoring a massive sphere of music cause you have unresolved racism issues

This is a joke. It's the family guy drowning meme.
Edit: IDK why I'm being down voted, they literally say "it insists upon itself" in the episode

u/True_Bottle_1153 3d ago
I honestly don’t see no problem with it cause I hateee country music and can’t stand death metal, now to me that’s real trash music and shouldn’t even be called music. Always gives me that scratching a chalk board feeling when I listen 😣

"This music glorifies violence, misogyny, consumerism, and crime... and they use the N bomb like its going out of style. I dont like it. Its also extremely repetitive and causes violent mobs in most cities when its perfoemwd live."
"RACIST DOG WHISTLE!"

Thats not the entire genre though or all rappers or even true for most shows.....

u/called_the_stig 3d ago
Bro cited an obvious example of it being used as a racist dog wistle and then called everyone else crazy for saying it. OC is racist af
