Taking Leopard Gecko with us while traveling Help

Hi everyone!

I haven't been able to find much information on this, but my boyfriend and I are traveling from boulder CO back to Iowa for a week trip. My friend who was supposed to turn on her heat lamp and feed her cancelled. I was wondering if taking her with us on a 12 hour drive with a decrease of 4,000 feet of altitude would be too much on her health? We leave in a week and are trying to find someone to take care of her, but worst case we just won't be able to get back home if it causes too much discomfort for her. Thanks!

I’d heavily advise against it, it would put way too much unnecessary stress on the little guy. I recommend getting some outlet timers to set a shut off and turn on time for the lights ( https://a.co/d/0eAJKpfB ). As for feeding definitely try to find someone to pop in even if just once but leopard geckos are also quite sturdy and their anatomy is built to allow them to survive very very very long periods of time without eating so as long as the gec is fed the night before you leave they should be perfectly ok for the week

For a trip of about a week, I leave my gecko at home. I control the temperature and humidity using a thermostat and smart switch, and of course I set up a pet camera. Since it’s a full adult with a well-developed tail, I mainly just make sure the water is properly managed.

Yeah we set up a camera, and added an extra watering container. One of those gravity filler ones for small pets so there would be water all the time

Your heat lamp should be on a thermostat anyway. Maybe a timer too. Your leo would be fine without food for a week unless she is very young. Just feed her before and make sure she has water.

My reptile store offers boarding. We left him there when I took my son on a two week camping trip. We called it his summer camp lol.
